I'd imagine a lot more concrete info about VR and new game announcements in general will come at the playstation experience event

More information is slowly coming out about VR, apparently there are over 200 different devs working on VR, an indication of the impact people think it will have.

Just been reading that Driveclub has been running on VR, the devs are just playing around with it at the moment, so no immediate plans.

A lot of devs are playing around in the VR world

GT Sport is not Gran Turismo, which is obvious because of the name change so what is it?

This gives a bit more info

If GT is moving more towards multiplayer I hope they revamp the penalty system. In GT5 it was completely random who got the penalty and in GT6 they seem to have made it even worse - almost exclusively the guy who gets crashed into gets the penalty.

The last two iterations have been a bit of a let down; they really need to focus on the basics like better opponent AI, better menu design, better penalty system, better graphics and realistic crash damage. Every game they talk about improving the physics but they've been pretty much perfect since GT3. Fix the rest of the game!

Does VR interest you Hobo?

posted on 28/10/15

As a concept, yes. But I think I'll wait a while before buying into it. Seems as if it'll be rather expensive initially and I'm not a fan of being an early adopter - tend to spend the most to get the worst experience.

Think for racing games it'll be pretty amazing - actually being able to look around the car to see if someone's on your inside rather than resorting to 3rd person view or immersion-breaking warning markers.

Yeah Driving games are perfect for VR, if you're into driving it will certainly add a new dimension, but I get your point about being an early adopter.

well GT 4 & 5 were my bread and butter. GT4 was a little better than GT5 in terms of bugs and set up physics however GT5 car physics were much improved (such as body roll) but the sound of the game was terrible. I will say that Project Cars is better than both in every single dept other than the bugs (P Cars can be buggy in certain circumstances) but then again I have been on P Cars an insane amount.

the whole prize money thing with GT isnt entriely new they have been runnin competitions every year offering out pro racing positions to the best guys (Jan Marborgh won 4 yr ago i think (maybe 3) and just drove for Nissan at Le Man 24 hr.

The racer im most looking forward to is Assetto Corsa.

Onto VR for racers yes it will be awesome and actually a huge benefit to the game (especially cockpit drivers like me no longer using a button to look left and right) hitting apex's will be easier and alround spacial awareness will improve. However the guys i race with dont need it to be fair it will just improve immersion. It will be a piece of pi$$ to do for racers tho so no worries from me at all. Head tracking has been available for years on sim racers on PC and their wont be too much difference from that tbh. I will get GT regardless but its up against real competition that it has never really had at all ever.

Either way im chuffed to bits Sim racing gets more popular by the day and games like i-racing, Asetto Corsa, Project Cars, R Factor are all gettin the the player base's they deserve over the more (IMO) boring arcadey bog standard easy racers (Need for Speed, Driveclub, Grid etc....) Also not worries about the VR experience cos as I said it will transfer over very easily for racers and will 100% improve the experience both thro enjoyment and performance. So it cant quickly enough for me

Good input delboy you are now our resident race specialist.

The one thing I will say though, if you think VR is just head tracking you are in for an amazing surprise.

We will be selecting 14 drivers from our site to expnd to another sister site and start streaming our championship races on stream tv. We have just secured someone to commentate on our races. Ill maybe create an article once i know more and its ready to go live. We will need all the viewers we can get guys !! but as i said more on that when i have the news

No I meant in relation to Racing. I think it will be a lot easier also cos of the statics you have ... ie the car you drive doesnt actually move just the world around it infact there are very few moving parts for racers compared to others hence why they can look so good. But I mean that they have been adding technolgies like this to racing games for a while so a lot of the barriers have already been broken almost and they woulda had a better idea with the problems they would face. I certainly see it as being one of the easiest transitions for games to go VR over say FPS, football games etc.

When you think that we already race on force feedback wheels and rigs then you can imagine its just adding more and more to the immersion and will sell the VR a lot more IMO.

I mean to ask Amiga your mate that races a lot ... what title does he race .. if its Project Cars he should have a gander at our site (and any other racers out there) we cater for all levels so long as you are happy to drive with no aids, full damage, manual gears cockpit mode only and know the principles of racing. if your a high level we will have guys that will beat you and your low we still have guys you can race with but also have guys hold tutorial nights to help you get to grips with tuning and setting up a car as well as coach you on your actual driving.

Oh yeah you must have a racing wheel also sorry no pad users guys.

Yeah my mate loves his racer's and put's me to shame, unfortunately he has no wheel, although he had a great time with the one I had, even built a rig to sit in.

He doesn't have too much time these days, but he can definitely hold his own in races.

Ahh shame, we only allow other wheel racers unfortunately. You should still check our site out Amiga for what it is its extremely organised and very professionaly presented.

Yeah the site is full of guys that are awesome against the run of the mill racers then left scratchin their heads as they look at the guys we have 2/3 secs a lap faster.....i should know im one of them !!

Wait, do you not have Assetto Corsa delboy?

Iv played it bud but i only hav the laptop now ...and the ps4 obv. Really enjoyed it doesnt look or snd as good as other titles but best physics iv played.slightly better than p cars. Lookin forward to its console release

Yeah, amazing physics but sadly not very good at being a video game. Extremely clunky interface, restrictive control bindings and too few cars/tracks for the price. I'm also a bit miffed that they announced DLC before they had even left early access. There's also not a whole lot to do other than make challenges for yourself. I've heard the online community is pretty good though, so that might appeal to you.
The physics are pretty spot on. Doing the hillclimb track in the Alfa Mito (because I'm a chicken) is probably the most immersed I've been in an racing game.
The AI also gets a lot of criticism but I find it to be acceptable, at least amongst cars of similar spec. They make mistakes that real drivers would and don't just barge you off the track... most of the time. Really fall down if you have big gulfs in performance - it took 2.5 laps of Monza for the F1 cars to get past around ten Abarth 500s. For some reason they seemed happy just to sit behind them.

Hopefully the relative success of this game gives the studio a bit of a boost and they can make a much improved sequel. Could become a very strong franchise.

Wasnt bad, just found it to be a recap with a couple of things thrown in, excellent if your are pretty casual and dont follow that much news. Biggest problem was how good sony were at e3 and pax.

Seems the age of the dinosaurs are back! Horizons is looking amazing, Crytek + vr + dinos = a huge win, but still not convinced 100% by the first coming of vr, and why the fook would you make an experience about walking a high wire........idiots.

Said in the other thread drivers are getting spoilt, though not sure what sony are planning with 2 pretty similar 1st party racing games.

posted on 28/10/15

I disagree on the High wire VR, I think it is a really simple effective way to demonstrate to people the power of VR.

No it will never be a stand alone game, but it makes a huge impact on the people trying it.
