Dier has been absolute quality all season, today he was immense.

The good thing is these youngsters will only get better.

Totally agree Sandy, great post.

We really do have an exciting young team nowadays and in Pochettinno one of the best forward thinking managers around.
Talking of Poch he has always talked about this philosophy and this season they are really believing in this.
Out have gone players who were too lazy to be a part of this system and what we have is a superset young side thats bristling with talent.

Whats even more remarkable (if we keep this team together) is that the likes of Dier, Alli, Kane and Eriksen will only get better.

As you say its difficult to see a team beating us at the moment and if we can beat Chelsea we have a nice little run of easier teams, potential banana skins but teams we should beat.

I still believe once City and dare i say it Arsenal get some big players back they will finish top 2, Leicester will fall away and United although solid are nothing special. Of course we have Liverpool, Everton and Southampton breathing down our necks but i believe we are better than them.

Its imperative we sign a quality striker in Jan as a Kane injury would be like a dagger in the heart for this team. Hopefully Levy has learned from past mistakes.

Injuries could still be a big worry we looked great today (and last week) but injuries to the likes of Dier or Kane will undoubtedly prove very costly.

Our bench today looked particularly weak

Don`t cry for me Argentina.

Good post, but I don`t see Spurs signing any quality striker. Who would want to come just to sit on the bench. Kane will always be first choice, so unless he gets injured, and to be fair, he never does, can only see Poch buying a cheappo, and hoping it works.

To be fair all teams live in fear of injuries to their better players, cannot really worry too much. If they happen, they happen.

Sandy

As you say its going to be tough to sign a striker who will be happy playing second fiddle to Kane so it will have to be another striker who could also play in the attacking three or a youngster like Dembele from Fulham.

We need another quality striker to rival Kane for a starting place, one who will (a) keep Kane on his toes and (b) be able to come in and do a similar job in Kane`s absence.

Ideally we need proper competition for places in all positions, it is not about keeping players happy, it is about having a squad to deal with all eventualities.

Billy, to buy a striker to rival Kane will mean splashing £40 or £50 million and that aint going to happen. The best strikers do not come cheap. And what decent striker will just want to sit on the bench.

I think the big advantage is that with Modric and Bale, you knew the big 2 were coming from them. You don't have players that good now so the chances of keeping the side together is very high.

As most know I am always the first one to criticise Spurs but the last two games we have looked a top quality side lets hope we can keep it going for next week

Bargains can be found abroad Sandy, hopefully our scouting set up can unearth somebody. Or you have somebody like Pato being quoted at £8m for eg.

Either way, we need another striker, if only to give Kane a rest.

I know what you are saying but those other teams dont only have one striker

I'm trying not to get too carried away as I've seen so many false dawns over the years at the Lane. However it's ok to be excited and optimistic at what we're currently seeing with this team and manager. Young, hungry and improving game by game.

No doubt stern tests await us and setbacks will occur but we can definitely be confident that we are heading in the right direction.

It's a good feeling to be confident of getting a result no matter who we play which I haven't had for many years. Just enjoying it at the moment. Can't wait for the Chelsea game.

It's the squad sandy got to improve that squad. I'm excited but reserved. We need players two forwards, third goalkeeper and a defensive mid at least to give depth. No Kane or dier and that's it for us the likes of the awful Newcastle would give us a game.

The scary thought is come February we have the same squad because this pressing game will hurt the players fitness Come February with little rotation.

As I always say in a few years when people look at Harry's reign they will wonder how we did not challenge for anything. Poch is overachieving at the moment and that is great for us.

How is Poch over achieving LLM

You really do have it in for the guy. You were the only one on here to say he would be gone by the new year. Even Levy with his trigger finger must be delighted with the job he is doing.

We have the best goal difference we have had in many many years. A solid defence, the first manager to properly believe in Kane. He recognised that Dier could be a very good Dm when we all thought he was mad. Dembele is excelling under Poch, Rose is much better, Lamela i could go on and on.
He shifted out the dead wood, we are super fit, scoring goals and play the high pressure game superbly.

I agree without Kane we would be in trouble and we must sign another cf in Jan, Dier, was missing against Liverpool, dumbbell slotted back in his absence and put in a motm display.

You are on your own with this one LLM you really are sprouting some drivel nowadays.

Dembele not Dumbell bloody autocorrect.

I also don't know how you think we will be able to sign TWO forwards?? Keeping one striker on the bench happy is one thing but Two??

Regarding more depth at dm, Dembele can play that role and we have Bentaleb and Mason in reserve.

Regarding 3rd choice keeper, Mchee was recently given a new contract so they must rate the kid. Again if we sign another keeper will he be happy at probably not making the match day squad.

On current form Sandy, we really should beat Chelsea next Sunday. But Jose will want to park the bus after what he saw today! And the fact we scored 5 against them at the Lane last season!

posted on 23/11/15

Not sure I agree at all with LLM, no way are Spurs overachieving, they have a very fine team now, and are beating most teams with a bit to spare, that is not overachieving, that is just being better than the opposition.

Re. LLM's comments, whilst I disagree that we're overachieving, he does have a few valid points; namely:

1. The pressing game we play is hugely energetic and we're using virtually the same XI every game. When we played the same XI under Harry we fell apart in February in two consecutive seasons

2. We do lack cover for Kane and Dier

However, I think once the team has bedded down a little Poch can start to rotate (e.g. Wimmer, Davies, Bentaleb, Son, Townsend (?). We do need one or two extra players in January ideally (particularly cover for Kane - if he picks up an injury we're facked)
