But it's pointless discussing it as Everton would ask for £45m+ for him now anyway. No way we'll touch him for that amount of money.

Still think we'd be better leaving Martial as the "9", maybe buying another winger to add to what we already have and then look for a "new Rooney".

Lukaku's hold up play and touch has been much improved this season. It will continue to improve as long as he keeps working on his game.

Where as physical aspects like pace and acceleration can't be improved. Which will hold kane back

Lukaku is pacy over both short distances and long distances.

Imo martial and lukaku has the potential to be as good as rooney and Zaha striking partnership. Having two strikers who can run with the ball and run the channels will give a whole new dimension to any attack.

Lukaku will never match Kane in this department, do you seriously think he'll develop his game to that level? He has the turning circle of a London bus.

Didn't know they had much of a partnership in the 3/4 games they played together

Martial is by no means tiny...but to call him big & strong?

I said it before...Martial reminds me of Torres. Pacy, direct, enough strength and overflowing with composure in front of goal.

We are talking about kane here not Drogba. Kane's hold up play is still not that great when compared to great strikers.

Sure, lukaku can be as good at holding up the ball as Kane is currently, probably will improve more. He has improved quite a lot this season in that area. He is still 22, he will get much better. Strikers generally peak at 24/25.

Lukaku scored 50 in 4.5 seasons, Kane may well do it in 2.5 (.5 because Lukaku only played 10 games one season, as did Kane).

It's worth remembering Lukaku scored about 10 goals last season. Needs to be consistent before being touted as one of the best.

I don't think either of them are among the best at the mo. Kane was playing in championship before last season.

Currently kane is slightly better imo, but lukaku has a higher ceiling.

Lukaku vs kane debate deserves a thread of its own,

Really? We're prepared to spend over £50 million on an unproven Martial.

I'm pretty sure in this market we'd spend £45 million on Lukaku if we wanted him.

Going by the fact that we didn't in the summer is a pretty good guideline that LVG didn't want him.

He didn't really want any strikers though did he? He got rid of a couple of our strikers to rely on a washed up Rooney and an unproven 19 year old.

This summer you'd think our need would be stronger for a new striker.

Yes he did. He bought one.

I'm not sure either Lukaku or Kane are entirely necessary but if I had to choose one, I'd pick Kane because I think he has a little more flexibility to his game and being English slightly tips things in his favour too for me.

Surely though Martial will start playing up front for us consistently once we strengthen the wide areas because playing out wide all the time is I think a waste of his talents as good as he is out wide.

The ideal player we want is somebody like Thomas Muller who can play wide but centrally too if need be.

Muller is going to be this summers big signing. It's assured.
