Looks a poor choice in hindsight but it's still early days.

Think you would have been much better suited getting an Allardyce, Pulis, Redknapp type manager who knows the league and experienced getting teams out of relegation

The football wouldn't have been great but it couldn't be any worse than it is now. Looks a big ask for Villa to stay up on current form but a couple of signings in January could make all the difference.

You said it; 3 GAMES!!! What do you expect to achieve in that time? Even Allerdyce didn't walk into Sunderland with a magic wand. Lost 3 of his first 4 games including a 6-2 thrashing by Everton. It takes time; neither Allerdyce or Garde are magicians.

You can't say there's no fight in the players. They fought back to level in the first half against Watford, and Ayew bless him was fighting right at the end which is how he got his deserved goal.

If it took Allerdyce over 4 games to get his methods across to a Sunderland defence which has been largely stable for years, it's not surprising Remi has some troubles with a defence with new faces which was messed up by Sherwood.

So Ligue 1 players are out of their depth in better leagues? Look at all the ones who've done well in the PL. After they've settled.

I think most fans are prepared to give Remi a lot of support. He's a breath of fresh air after Sherwood. He keeps his feet on the ground, he doesn't over-react, he doesn't pretend things are great, he's fully focused on what the problems are and what needs to be done. There's a lot of steel in there; he's boss, as Grealish found out. What do you expect him to say in interviews? "The boys were great; we go again", like Lambert? Or blurting out "we're losers, we're losers", like Sherwood?

No, it is not a knee jerk reaction. You have not moved from long before Garde was appointed,
Not sure what miracles you were expecting in 3 games, develop all the players he was left with into top class players?

We will discuss again in the next 5 games, however i see no improvements likely !! .... Mcpartland say what you want about Watford but to concede 3 goals to them at home is pathetic !! Garde has done absolutely nothing to improve the defence or looked like solving a method to leaking soo many goals !!

Pulis is taken, Allardyce is taken, I wouldn't trust 'Arry an inch.
Who else is there?
Who would you appoint?

Pearson would have been a great fit. He'd have got them unified as a team, a great place to start. When players work hard anything can happen, Villa have some decent players but lack steel, experience and quality in certain areas.

I don't think a foreign manager was the answer to Villa's woes though and I agree with the OP. I'd be very worried and highly doubt Garde has what it needs to keep Villa up.

Seven points adrift already and without the fight and team spirit we have, I can't see any way out if this.

3 games in. Of course it's fu·cking kneejerk!

And yeah, what has anyone coming from Ligue 1 ever done in the PL?

posted on 1/12/15

It's the very definition of kneejerk. It's easier to impose Big Sam's style than Garde's but over time you'll have a better brand of football. I think you'll be fine.

heard the saying, you can only pss with the c8ck you've got?

The defenders have been sheite all season, are you expecting them to improve 100% over night ffs

DLo, I think you meant to say 'this IS a knee jerk reaction. Much of what you have said is not true. For example, apart from the Everton game, and another game where we lost by 2 goals, all our losses (and I admit there have been a lot of them) have been by the odd goal. So losing to Southampton would not be 'yet another hammering'.

I always thought that taking on a manager with no premier league coaching experience was riskier than some of the managers mentioned above, but now he's here we need to give him more than 3 games before we crucify him.

His task before January is to get the defence organised. If he doesn't do this, then may be he's not the right man.

His second job is to bring in some decent players in January. We need a centre back, a left back, a left midfielder and a striker. And a midfielder who can drive forward and be physical defensively - some one like Delph. Tall order I know, but surely Randy will come up with the cash rather than see the value of his investment (that he wants to sell) fall by at least £100k.

In the meantime, lets not rush to judgement, and as someone once said, 'don't panic!'.

Totally agree Protagoras.

I'd add needing a GK to your list. A good GK will inspire more confidence and thus indirectly improve the defence. A striker is an absolute priority. Ayew is starting to look really good, but he needs someone else to play off. Charlie Austin has said no to any relegation threatened teams, but there must be options out there.

Yes, I forgot about the GK!

what kind of quality of player is RG going to be able to attract if we are still in the shiete?

I would go for Jordan Rhodes and try and off load some of the sheite that Lambert loves to Blackburn

Michael Keane also a target apparently

At least with Timmy it used to sound like some of you got a bit of 'wood' but now it seems that Remi doesn't even give you a 'semi'!...

Should have given Tim more time. I think he'd be the better person to handle idiots like Grealish after his time at Spurs. Plus at least he's been there and done that with a relegation battle.

the mistake was hiring Sherwood in the first place. I tried to warn you but you didn't listen.

I've seen it all now.

A manager OUT after 3 games?

The modern fan lacks all the tenacity that fans used to have.

Villa have been relegation candidates under 4 or 5 managers for 4 or 5 seasons. After a net spend of a few million this year, and losing your best player, you were always likely to struggle.

But if you do go down, so what?

Your club are what count. Whether you play in the Conference or the PL. And you should support them no matter what they do!

Agree. Relegation could well be the end result, although I haven't given up yet. But the only way forwards is to back this manager to get what he can out of the what he's got. Pearson and Moyes are no longer an option (personally, never that impressed with Pearson, and Moyes left his last club in a similar state to ours).

posted on 2/12/15

You would have been impressed with Pearson if you'd taken him on.

If he could overcome his paranoia and sharpen up his approach to dealing with the media, he would have been the perfect fit for you guys.

While at Leicester he stripped the club of anyone who was putting in less than 100% effort, got rid of the high earners and then instilled some discipline to our shape and overall play.

While it took Ranieri to take the club to the next level (well, so far at least), make no mistake that the foundations were laid by Pearson.

Had a thought. If we only just lost 3-2 away to Liverpool, and Liverpool thrash Southampton 6-1 away, then we ought to beat Southampton 4-2. Right?
