Agree apart from Morgan.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Reason i say he wasn't needed is because the three Carrick,BS,MS ..whatever two combine we don't have enough energy, drive, creativity in there. We need a CM who can run with the ball and drive forward.
Schweinsteiger, Blind and Martial have been his only good signings so far.
To think that out of 1/4 £bn there isn't a top class player there
That's 4 out of 4 voters so far that think he has bought badly !
C'mon Jay, Busby,TRS ..tell us why he has bought well...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
martial is far too early to tell, he looks like costing £45m and upwards, and for that you want 15-20 PL goals a season, and we have no idea whether he can do that.
schweinsteiger's fee was ok, but for his wages the signing has been decent and no more, as someone to rotate with carrick he has a role to play, in terms of offering more...well he isn't really.
blind is the only unequivocal success, usually reliable, rarely injured, didn't cost much.
not great really.
Martial is class and not LVG'S fault what the club paid for him.
Schweinsteiger is also class.
Blind is a cracking player in my opinion.
Schweinsteiger has been pretty poor. Slow and misplaces simple passes.
The logic of replacing a slow and immobile midfield (Carrick, Fellani, Mata, etc) with another slow and immobile player is lost on me.
I think it's telling that Blind is arguably our best signing because of his adaptability. LVG hasn't bought anyone to own their role and do it with quality.

Agreed and if he stays it's imperative he gets the right quality player in. We do need a Ronaldo/Bale/Reus/Robben/Griezmann type player
or failing that Mane/Mahrez

Thought on that previous thread you said his buys were alright. I just don't think they are good enough
De Gea
Raf Smalling Jones Shaw
Carrick Morgan
Herrera
Mata Martial Young
For me that XI would be as good as anything we could see now and it only included 2 actual LVG signings. Yet we have spent a sh-t load more and on what of any real quality?
Thought on that previous thread you said his buys were alright. I just don't think they are good enough
-------------------------------------
So you've gone from me thinking he's bought well to alright.
I believe I agreed with Mex when he said Van Gaal has bought "reasonably".
Not great, not poor but OK.
Try reading what was actually said.
The players listed aren't a bad group of players. They're just playing under a man who's failing to get the best out of them. The midfielders and attackers especially.
I agree with manutd1982 - at this point in time, you'd have to say that Blind has been Van Gaal's best signing.
I love Herrera and Shaw but Herrera isn't played enough and, as has been suggested, they were probably coming anyway.
I think Schweinsteiger has been good for us and I'm delighted we've got Schneiderlin - much more to come from him in the right set up.
Martial and Memphis are full of promise and good players for the future.
I can't really criticise the players Van Gaal has bought, to be honest. Flops will happen. It's more letting so many forward players go without really replacing them that frustrated me.
Like TRS said, he hasn't bought bad players but the issue is that he's been so poor in getting anything out of them with his poor tactics.

They aren't bad players but good enough for a Man United trying to win the PL and get to the latter stages of CL I don't think so. We needed more quality.
I do like the fact he likes to give youth a chance and Memphis and Martial are promising players with good potential but he needed real quality to go alongside these types of players.
Arsenal buy Sanchez,Ozil
City KDB,Sterling
Just expected us to really get top quality with the money we have spent. I know we have tried for some top names like Ronaldo,Bale,Neymar for example but maybe they are not too realistic right now but there are plenty of other top quality players.

The squad isn't the best but what we have was easily good enough to come 2nd in the group we had. The way we utilised them is the issue.
MS - Not needed Imo and average too
----------------------------------------------
I thought you said Schneiderlin was a very good player? What's changed in 3-4 months?
Morgan is good, but as a b2b. Watch him at Saints and he's full of energy and presses hard and offers an offensive side to his game. Under LVG he's told to just sit in front of the defence along side another DM.
MS is a good player but I just think having Carrick and then buying one of his favourites in BS we didn't need that type of CM. It maybe that he hasn't really settled yet or isn't being utilised correctly.
I have said many times I want a CM who can drive forward making surging runs, like a Barkley type, even a Sissoko.
Time will tell with MS.
MS is a good player
------------------------------------------
You called him average in the OP.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed we should have come second but we didn't .
I blame LVG in the main. But even so I think we are a million miles away from the likes of Bayern, Barca, Real, PSG
The key word in all of this for me is frustration.
I think LVG has done quite a lot of good things but ultimately is comes down to what happens on the pitch.
I think now though with all the injuries we have we may just have to go on the attack in our next two (winnable or should be winnable) games and hope to outscore the opposition rather than try to keep them out and nick it.
You never know. The players may actually enjoy playing and just a little change in mentality could transform the season from what could be a promising one to a very good one. The league is up for grabs.
On a seperate note can Martial actually play in the Europa? Seeing as he has played for Monaco in a losing CL qualifying campaign would he then be allowed back to the lower tier competition as we could end up playing them.
We are but we don't need to be their level to reach the knock out stages.
