Europe in my opinion is a bit of a bonus, I want to do well domestically first and foremost, I want us to dominate Scottish football every season and right now we are doing that.
Europe has been a disaster this season but it's been a disaster before and we've improved.
It took Lennon 3 years to get a good season in Europe.
Strachan's start was a disaster and O'Neill also had a few embarrassing results in his time.
Silver, I should have made it clear that I meant by implementing his own ideas more.
Last season I enjoyed our football and pressing game, it's been non existent this season.

Of course you can be positive but it all depends on ambition and expectation
If the ambition and expectation is merely to be above Rangers and be best in Scotland (which I think has a lot to do with your euro disappointments and overall drop in standards) then you can be positive in the short term anyway
If the ambition is to do well in Europe then you are best admitting now that it does not look likely to happen under your current manager

Given Dave kings intention to take rangers back to being the major force that they used to be, the our ambition to stay ahead of rangers seems pretty ambitious to me. No?

The pressing is something that has been lacking all season. I get maybe not doing it as much in Europe, but domestically it hasn't been there at all.
That could also be due to Johansen being essentially useless the whole season. He led a lot of the pressing last year.
All Ronny has shown since he was appointed is that he can't make the step up. Looking back at our Europa group, we could have got out of it. The defeat away to Molde aside, we could have done better in every other game.
Dal, I agree we could have done better, I think back to the Izzy sending off, the Ambrose brain fart.... we were pretty comfortable in both games until both players lost their head.
Molde was a complete disaster, the whole team were pathetic that night and for me that lays at the door of the manager as they didn't look up for it at all.

NNH,
I'm willing to accept the defeat away to Molde, but losing the return leg at home was unforgivable to me.
He learned absolutley nothing from that game, and still played the high line.
I don't think the Ronny experiment is working, I'd like him to stand or fall by his own hands rather than by the excuses of the coaching staff and player purchases not being his choices.
If he gets rid of Kennedy and brings in a proper defensive coach and goes out to scout the players he wants himself rather than relying on the video-suite then he can at least say, it's all on me but as it stands right he seems like a yes-man.
Simo the only guy under his tenure that shows he might improve us, Tierney getting promoted has been a very good move and Scott Allen looks promising.
I think he'd make a great coach but i'm struggling to see him as a great manager.
Ginger,
A nice legacy for the next manager.
Ginger, to be able to do that, he`ll need at least a couple of years more to develop it. Without improvement in Europe and more entertainment at home, I can`t imagine the fans being patient enough to let him.
If I can see gradual improvement, I`ll gladly give him time, as his philosophies are absolutely right and mean a huge change to the culture in Scotland in football terms. I just think that we are actually worse than last year, so he needs to really get cracking
stupid mistakes and rotten defending cost us big time in this group.
a severe lack of shape and quality.
Every club he's been at he has made them better and improved the young players at the club.
Perhaps we are starting to see the fruitions of that now with Forrest getting better with every game, Tierney looking like he has the potential to be an outstanding left back, young Nesbitt absolutely flying in the development games and training with the first team.
This was never going to be a one or two season job, the progress seems to be going on behind the scenes and if we can start to see some of that in the next 6 months he will get my full support for next season.

But I'm not naïve to think that it's all rosy, there are big problems in the current side and the way we are playing, it needs to be addressed pronto
NNH
It's depressing that all the news is that Ronny went to look at Villa's injury plagued striker with a pretty average strike rate when what we need is defenders that can defend.
03 Izaguirre
04 Ambrose
15 Commons
16 Mackay-Steven
18 Rogic
26 Bailly
49 Forrest
That was the Celtic bench last night.
Can someone explain to me why the likes of Nesbitt and other young Celtic players weren't on the bench to get a bit of European experience under their belts in what was a dead rubber?
A big missed opportunity as far as I'm concerned.
I agree Ivan, two of the young players were in the squad that travelled but didn't make the bench.
Not one of them was a defender mind you so I think he had to put Ambrose and Izzy on the bench.
NNH
I think realistically you'd look at GMS being on the bench and ask what's the point. He already knows what GMS offers, he probably knew that Forrest would be ahead of him so he was always unlikely to play.
On a wider note, and to repeat something that I said on here last night, I thought the Celtic performance last night was one of the most thuggish performances I've seen by a Scottish club in Europe in a long time. They just tried to kick Fenerbahce off the park. It wasn't pretty to watch.

Was it not Fernabache who had a man sent off for lashing out?

Mate, come on, you know better than that.
He lashed out after yet another blatant and unnecessary body check from Johansen. From the first whistle Celtic left the boot in, dragging studs into players on the ground, taking sly digs whenever they could. It was awful to watch and in many ways disappointing to see you get a reward from it (and I say that having sat down hoping to see Celtic get a decent result and performance at kick off).
