For the idiomatically uninformed, this is sarcasm.
It is preparation time which is also a big factor, as well as fatigue / travelling etc.
The Toon had 6 full days to prepare for this game, Spurs had just 2 full days, that has to make a difference.
glitzeano, don't give them any clues!
Cannot blame Europa for that nonsense.
We didn't travel on this occasion and lots of changes made. It was a dead game so poch shouldn't have spent any time at all preparing for Monaco
Billy, I say the same thing. It's not just the physical aspect it impacts on but the mental one as well. It's an unavoidable burden on the league, I don't care what anyone says.
We did look tired though. Fitness levels have perhaps been overstated. Harry looked a shell of his former self. We are putting too much on his shoulders and burning him out.

Wouldn't go that far Chronic. He needed to prepare to an extent. The way other teams manage to get around this that are in Europe, like City and Arsenal, as we've already seen this weekend, is by having more quality in their team. This is why it's not as detrimental to CL teams than it seems to be with Europa teams.

Why you little....
Europa had absolutely nothing to do with our draw. We didn't look one bit tired, in fact we kept going well into injury time and grabbed an equaliser. We'd been pummelling them for the whole game but have issues with Benteke up front on his own and defending corners, which they scored two from, with one of their three seven foot defenders.
At the risk of sounding like Hafi, we completely dominated the game, couldn't finish our host of chances and got done from two corners, which was half of their shots.
Europa hangover was nothing to do with it on this occasion. Although it was definitely an issue on other occasions when our players looked exhausted early in the second half.
It's the long distance away games that are the issue. However if you want to progress you have to play in Europe and you'll have more funds than those below you and thus should be able to deal with it by building better squads.
European football, whether CL or Europa affects the domestic form of participating teams. If you're measuring yourself against Palace or Leicester, then it's a disadvantage. If you're measuring yourself against the likes of Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool who ALSO have to juggle European football, it's a poor excuse.

Is it a disadvantage when measuring yourselves against Palace and Leicester who have much lower income, can spend less due to FFP and are nowhere near as attractive for players? I don't think so. Clubs like Liverpool and Spurs should be able to juggle European football and the Premier League, when up against the likes of Palace and Leicester. It's no excuse. You can't reap the benefits and then complain about the drawbacks.
Like I say, it can be a mental drain as well as a physical one. It might not happen every time after a European game, but it can definitely catch teams out. The stats say it, as do the performances at times.
How thend do you explain Villarreal beating real Madrid having also played in the Europa league

Europa definitely does not affect teams
