Mignolet to sign new contract in Next 2wks

Behave, he's not that bad.

End of the day, it could be as simple as his contract was running down, and we want to make sure we get a fee. Be it this year or next.

good, he deserves one

he's been excellent since he got dropped and came back into the side

I'd say excellent is generous. the Bordeux howler alone keeps him out of that category. adequate, nothing more, nothing less for me.

He's decent but nothing special. Quite considerably far behind the likes of Courtois, Cech and De Gea.

The thing with Mig and any keeper is you know that they are not great when the fans have a debate of his qualities more than they should. That is when you know the keeper is making more mistakes than he should. We seem to have a debate about migs every few weeks, I do not see that with DDG, Cout, Cech, Hart, Butler, and Lloris.

Sunderland's chant was better than that.

Lloris is a fookin overrated clown. I wouldn't swap him for Mig.

The others, fair enough. But we're not exactly in a position to attract better.

So Mignolet has been excellent, but Lloris is a clown?

You need to get your head checked mate.

He's always been a backup keeper at best for me. Every keeper has off days like Lloris and DDG last weekend but Migs mistakes are a very bad habit. The whole team dynamic changes when he flaps.

Lloris is better than Mignolet but isn't in the same bracket as the others, still prone to a mistake himself.

If you put any keeper behind our defence of the last few seasons and I doubt they'd fare much better than Mig has.

Haven't we allowed like one of the lowest shots on target totals this season? Don't get me wrong, our defence isn't fantastic, but I don't think it's all that bad.

No player has made more errors that have led directly to a goal in the last 3 PL seasons than Simon Mignolet.

You can't ignore stats like that.

Signing a new contract means fack all, might just be to ensure we get a decent fee if we decide to move him on in the summer.

And he definitely needs to be replaced. He costs us far too many goals

Lloris makes mistakes all the time, has the positional sense of a drunk rabbit, and generally doesn't command his defence.

People rate him because he likes making 'acrobatic' saves for routine shots that keepers bigger than him make look easy.

He's a little keeper who's a big showman, nothing more for me.

(this has nothing to do with Mig, I've just never rated him)

I jst can't see how you can have that opinion of Lloris, and then call Mignolet excellent.

Bizarrely different scales you rate them on apparently.

posted on 14/12/15

my rating scale is based on:

-Stops shots you should
-Stops shots you shouldn't
-Doesn't run out and get caught in no man's land regularly
-Doesn't flap at crosses

Mig wins 1-3 easily
Lloris wins 4 by a distance

You're ignoring;

-keeps possession of the football
-commands his penalty area
-is a useful option to pass to for defenders
- knows how long he's allowed to hold the ball for

All of which Lloris wins comfortably.

Look, I'm not saying that Lloris is a far better keeper than Mignolet, he's not.

But I just don't understand how you can call Mignolet excellent and Lloris a clown. Just doesn't make sense.

If we swapped Mig for Butland I wouldn't mind at all

can't see anyone else (that we could get to sign) who would be an improvement

Mig's kicking is awful, but I like my keepers to stop shots they should, and stop shots they shouldn't above all else

my 2p

Agree with Butland completely. Fraser Forster, if he's fit maybe?

Lloris is auch better keeper then mig

I don't know anything about keepers abroad. Maybe there are a couple well worth a punt especially as City, Arsenal, Chelsea, and United at this time aren't in the market.

But for prem keepers, Butland or no one from England for me. Either stick with the kicking and occasionally flapping ace shot stopper, or find some keeper abroad who potentially can be at half tick below Cech, De Gea, Courtois (maybe Hart quality) level. I just don't see anyone in the prem other than Jack who fits that description.

Am I the only one who sees a similarity between Mig and David James at his calamitous worst?
