Good theories

Although JJ has confirmed that for him it's a completely new character the other writers for the next two films could easily change this and turn him into anyone with your theory being an excellent one to go with.

Just see TFA for the second time. I'm convinced Rey is the new Anakin (ie special birth). She is just so overpowered.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Obers, what's your impression second time?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Better. Filled in all the gaps, I understand the plot completely now.

Felt Kylo Ren was more powerful then I thought, even when badly wounded he had the beating of Finn and standard Rey. And his use of the force is the best I've seen.

Rey is too overpowered though. She has basically filled the void of all the three main characters. Luke as she is the new main Jedi, Han because she now controls the Millennium Falcon, and Leia because she is the new heroin of the saga.

I do hope Leia gets killed off in the next one (hopefully by Kylo), and I'd like to see C-3PO finally given his chips tbh. Only want R2, Chewwy and Luke remaining from the old cast.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree, it certainly was better second time round with the gaps in my mind being filled.

Kylo certainly stands out more with his confused character. You start off with this evil powerful apprentice but actually he's just a young guy conflicted.
I appreciated more second time round.

And VIII certainly has a lot of explanations to cover

Who is Rey
Who is Snoke
Why Finn? (Nothing happens by coincidence with the force)
Why Luke played hide and seek
How Kylo got turned

Cant wait!

Was thinking about this too, I think we'll see more Storm troopers break out of the brain washing or whatever it is.

It's something Qui Gon said in PM that the force fonds a way to connect and that nothing happens by coincidence.
Finn was meant to meet Rey.

Be interesting to see if Finn has some connection in his family history. That'll sure to pee off the haters

That scares me a bit. The idea they had no idea what was happening in 8 when they wrote 7. George Lucas had all 6 films mapped out before The New Hope was released.

Making it up as they go along is a dangerous strategy

Im pretty sure Leia wasnt meant to be Lukes twin.
Lucas only changed this for ROTJ.

But yes, the storyline was scripted for 6 episodes.

have you seen the book on Darth Plagueis?

Well that's settled it then.
That is Snoke

So where was he during episodes 1 to 6?

"Just read an interesting theory thought I would share it. Rey is Luke's daughter but Kylo was the one that left Rey on Jakku. In the vision one of the Knight of Ren was about to strike Rey down but then Kylo killed him. The vision then transitions to Rey being dropped off on Jakku. It makes more sense that Kylo was the one who left her there. He likely wanted to protect Rey, she being his cousin, from the other Knight of Ren so he dropped her off on Jakku, a middle of nowhere planet. It is also more plausible that he would leave her with the scavenger lord than her father would. He has a talent for mind manipulation using the force so he could have done a mind wipe on her, something we haven't seen done by any force users like the stopping of a laser blast. He could have done it to protect her, prevent her from reaching her full Jedi potential, or both. Luke, Leia, and Han would have though she was dead like the other younglings, that's why they never mention her nor recognize her. That along with the loss of the other younglings and Kylo's turning was why Luke went off to the Temple. Further the grave at the Jedi temple was either for Rey, her mother, or both. Leia could have recognized Rey after she used the force so much on the planet and that is why she passes up Chewy and gives Rey a hug after the death of Han. This seems the most plausible right now, at least to me."

This is a youtube comment. The one thing he forgot to mention was that Rey's name was changed by Kylo to protect her. This seems very plausible actually, and explains the confused look on Luke's face

Just seen another one (sorry ) which says Rey is the daughter of Luke and Obi Wan's daughter. Which would explain why Rey has Skywalker and Kenobi traits.

They really have done a good job with this movie because all the theories are possible

I think that due to the anticipation of this movie, the unanswered nature of the characters has stirred everyone into wanting to second guess what coulda/shoulda etc.
That is a skill in itself and one of the successes of the movie.

Long live Anakin Skywalker!

what you don't see is arguably more important than what you do

e.g. Jaws

Would be pretty epic if in episode 9, Rey is the Sith and Ben Solo is the redeemed good side. Would be the complete opposite of what everyone expects.

About the size of Albert Square.

"The movie has just passed £1.5Bn at the box office.
And it's set to open in China on 9th."

Yeah it should smash Avatar but China is expected to add 'only' around £350m to the BO total. Let's face it, half of China already owns a pirate copy of this film anyway! I bought ROTS on dvd in a market in Shanghai shortly after its cinema release.

"Although JJ has confirmed that for him it's a completely new character"
_________________________

Except I'm not convinced that Jar Jar Abrams has the faintest idea what the words "completely new" actually mean....Snoke looks am awful lot like Darth Plagueis! And they used the same music from the Plagueis discussion in ROTS. Then again, Ren looks very similar to another SW character, Darth Revan from the EU, so you never know.

"Making it up as they go along is a dangerous strategy"

Very, very true. And never has this point been demonstrated more clearly than with the TV show LOST....which was created by a certain Jar Jar Abrams, who has always been massively overrated imo. The first season of LOST was brilliant - a great introduction to the show. By season 3 it was too obvious that the script was being written weekly as they filmed the show and it unsurprisingly lost its way badly. By the time the show eventually ended it was way beyond crap.

I'd like to think even if they are making it up as they go along, Star Wars won't go so down hill like Lost did. I mean they do have over a year to think up some ideas rather than a week.

Yeah I agree - just making the point that JJ has a lot of previous when it comes to style over substance, especially when it comes to coherent storytelling.

Well he's not making the next one so we can relax

Agreed - as long as he is not involved in writing it either.

And no more Simon Pegg as a 'consultant'! The guy has been a Hollywood whoore for a long time now and hasn't been funny since Hot Fuzz.

I feel JJ is getting a rough ride. JJs name never came up after the Lost debacle, Damon Lindeoff took the brunt of it.
even though JJs name was up there as Exec Prod, he had nothing really to do with the show, he swiftly moved onto the Big Screen with MI:3.
Even the whole Lens Flare thing is over the Top, Len wiseman is the biggest hack around and gets away with murder!!
JJ is a good director, and these new SW films won't involve JJ as much as people think...

The filmed was released in China yesterday.
Expected takings to be between $350 and $400m.
With $1.6bn taken already, the movie should pass the $2bn in box office takings.

Not bad really.

What's all this criticism of JJ?

Lost is one of the biggest shows of all time.

He has brought Star Trek back from the dead and has now just given us a brilliant Star Wars film which is on course to be the most successful film of all time.
