Last defender

What I always found strange is if a defender takes out a player the keeper isn't considered, but if a keeper takes out a player and an outfield player is covering then that seems to make it not an obvious scoring opportunity and no red.

Personally I would prefer it just to be a penalty and no red.

It's only a 1 match ban.

The rule is there to stop players thinking well they're gonna score, I may aswell hack him down and take my chances with a pen. Saying that some are incredibly harsh. Especially on the keepers. I think it should be upto the refs discretion. If it's an absolute hack then yeh give the red but if it's a genuine tackle that's mistimed or the keeper trying to play the ball then the double punishment is very harsh.

I think it's only 1 match, by default - but can be 3 like any other red, surely?

3 is for violent conduct

So, if you're going to intentionally snap someone in half, make sure you do it as last defender in the penalty area?

But that would be a red anyway.

Well the red will just write up his report that the red was for violent conduct. You a dafty?

Exactly, so like I said then. It *can* be a 3 match ban, same as any other.

Not for being last man, unless the defender choke slams him does a round house kick to the head. 3 match bans are for violent conduct.

Fair comment NPE about what if the player is 40 yards out but the rule doesn't have to be rigid. Again it can be upto the refs discretion.

Well it depends, lets just say its a foul on a box where the striker has a good chance of scoring, maybe a yellow and pen is fair enough.

But what happens if the ball has been shot at goal and someone clears it off the line with their hand? Surely it should still be a straight red?
