It's because he doesn't run around a lot. His goals are irrelevant. We should play Milner up front.....
Scored 2 goals from 12 clear cut chances, he may well score, but if its a detriment to the way the team attack as whole i don't think its a good thing(ie he scores, but the team scores less). His performance the other day was poor, but it was actually the same as the 2 previous games, he just scored in those and we won so it wasnt talked about. Its clear Coutinho & co Arent what suits him best, and I wouldn't swap those players to get the type he needs ,hes our only fit striker atm so he will play, but we look more fluid with sturridge or even origi imo
His job is to score goals, not run around. When he runs around he gets slated for not being in the box when one of our crosses eventually gets there.
"Even with the service he gets .???" BB, I'm sure you're not advocating that the whole team revolves around him, but, last Saturday, for the 90 + minutes, I didn't exactly see him busting a gut to run and get the ball, a la Suarez, a la Torres, a la - our biggest losses - Ings, especially Ings, or Sturridge. Lallana and he were especially at handbags drawn at one stage because Benteke wanted the ball on his chest, not at his feet!
As I've said elsewhere, wouldn't we be better off with just playing ten men, and leaving him on the bench/changing room/bus/back at Anfield/home?
He's a great player who I think will never adapt to Jurgens style of play, nor its pace.
Put another way, if Danny Ings weren't injured, who would get the nod from Jurgen?

His job is to play for the team. This includes bringing our attacking midfielders, wide players and full backs into play which requires movement. He doesn't move.

Its sad but, we sold carroll for lack of movement etc, bought Mario, then sold him for similar reasons, who was then replaced by benteke that seems to have the same issues(though hes managed to actually score)
I wonder if Villa fans slated him for not running around or were they happy with his goals. Never mind, lallana, courts, firmino, Milner etc are getting lots of goals from running around.
My real point, I suppose, is that Tekkers has always played the same game and has always scored plenty of goals. It's really not his fault that somebody decided to buy him to do a different job. We'd buy a bleeding jaguar to plough a field with and then say it was shiite
I know its not his fault, its rodgers.
Its he's 1st season at a new club, he might just need a bit of time and patience to adjust to his new surroundings. Like the Op mentioned he's done ok so far, and will probably only get better
I don't blame him for not being up to standard so far. The players we have available don't suit him.
Personally I'm not so much unhappy with Benteke as frustrated. In patches he's played very well indeed for us, he's run the channels, held the ball up/played it on when appropriate and has looked a goal threat.
At other times he's looked like pretty dreadful if we're honest.
The goal output is much the same, taken at face value it's decent. However the number of simple chances he's missed is incredibly frustrating. Scored a couple of crackers mind you!
Some of the frustration I put down to him and some to the other players. The other players don't seem to know how to use him effectively and the tendency is to put balls up to him to fight for on his own. To me that's just lazy football and the rest of the team need show a bit of intelligence in my opinion. It's not about changing how the team plays, it's about using the attributes of the people of the pitch and giving him the ball in the right areas.
Some of the performances are undoubtedly down to Benteke however. His comment about needing to run more for the team show that Klopp isn't entirely happy and he acknowledges that - a good start.
As fans we tend to forgive people for a lack of inspiration but not a lack of perspiration. Probably why he's got his fair share of critics at the moment.
I used to like Law, but Bob is actually my favorite player now

Agreed but he has to get into the right areas first, and when he does he needs to stick the obvious ones in, it's what quality strikers do. How many one on ones has he missed or let the defender catch him up? Our GD wouldn't read negative if he put those easy chances away. Who knows what an equaliser at one nil down against West Ham could have gotten us.
Can't complain because he clinches points for us but Benteke himself says it and I've been saying all along that even though things are not a perfect fit he can certainly do better than he has so far.
Quality player not helped by the system we play. We are the worst crossers of the ball in the league by miles, not his fault.

I have nothing against Benteke.
He's a good footballer.
I just have no idea why we signed him. I didn't know why we were signing him at the time, and still don't know now.
He doesn't do any of the things that we need in a striker to suit all the other players behind him. He scores, which is great, and welcome in a low scoring team, but it was a bad move for the club and for him as a player it wasn't the best either.
It's just Andy Carroll all over again to be honest. Benteke is better than Carroll, more capable all round and fitter, but it's the same issues with a failure to build a TEAM, rather than a collection of incompatible individuals.

According to stat bunker during his time at Villa Benteke scored:
26 with his right foot
7 with his left foot
14 with his head
On that basis maybe the players should be concentrating on getting balls to Benteke's right foot rather than lobbing in crosses. After all, that is the type of game the manager seems to want. It's not all about crosses.
Who else would we have signed though righteous?
We passed up the opportunity to sign Bacca, who I wanted but isn't pulling up trees by any means at his new club and is getting on a bit now.
Benteke was the only real standout quality striker we could buy. That's why we ended up paying the full release clause when we initially wouldn't go anywhere near it.
Personally I'm not so much unhappy with Benteke as frustrated. In patches he's played very well indeed for us

In among what was a post with a lot of sense, this first phrase stands out for me. This is how I feel about nearly everyone in the squad at the moment.
We can see the talent in most everyone, but its the frustration at not being able to put it together on the pitch. That and the, at time, lack of desire to win that are infuriating.
Doubly so, seeing as we had hoped to see this change with the new manager, but in fact its more of the same.
He isn't a bum but he has to be the laziest player I've ever seen in the famous red shirt
He doesn't have a bad attitude and seems like a quiet bloke but my god he's static - I would love him to prove me wrong but can not see anything changing here
We need to move away from buying players for the sake of it and actually have a coherent plan of what we need in each position.
Only 3 players have more than Bacca in Serie A so he is doing OK, but irrespective, we didn't HAVE to buy someone.
We were already buying Ings and Origi, two strikers much more suited to the other players in the squad. We could have kept the money for a later date.
I know fans don't like that, and have a spend spend spend mentality, but they don't like flop signings either.
Please please please can the board let Klopp shape the team over the next few years with players he and his team really want instead of just randomly buying footballers.
