Do you expect us to have a squad of 25 world class players?
You need balance and Ji was bringing up a valid point over a player who has performed very well this season and is clearly a talent. My only issue with him is that he will want to start most games and for me we would want better for guranteed first teamers.
Would be a very handy squad player but I doubt he'd want that.
We already have some very average players.
Anyway, what's your problem-it's not like woodward and LVG come on here for advice

Gabriel Agbonlahor?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's too good for us.
Gabby is too quick. Doesn't fit into the philosophy. Too prolific too. Two goals in about 20 matches is good going under lvg.
Agreed Stretty.... We should sign Bale to be back up for Martial... Ronaldo to back up Mata... Greizmann to be Rooney's understudy. Lewandoksi to take up Chico's old super sub role.

Shane Long would be an excellent back up striker to have at United.

Why? What's wrong with James Wilson.

Nothing at all wrong with Wilson. That bears no relevance as to whether Shane Long would be a good back up.

It does because Wilson would be good backup and also has the potential to improve, why waste money on the average Shane Long?

No I'm not. Not suggesting we sign Long. He's a very underated player though, that I'm certain could do a job as a back up for us
tbf anautovic has been decent for a couple years now.
Shane Long is garbage. Scores about 5 goals a season
Would be a very handy squad player but I doubt he'd want that.
he wouldnt as hes not very good.
We can debate the merits of particular players but I can't think of a successful United side (in fact any successful side) that didn't benefit from a few sub-world-class players who came off the bench and played with a professionalism / tenacity that an understudy who considered himself a superstar would probably lack. Then again, I remember throughout the most phenomenally successful years of our club's history a fringe of fans yearning for the replacement of the likes of O'Shea, Fletcher and Park.

I am not advocating buying Shane Long, I believe we need a top class starting CF, though if he were bought I believe he'd do a job as a back up. We disagree that Long is just an average striker.
Nice articulate response Stretty.
the guy scores probably an average of 7 goals a season.
