My honest suggestion would be to buy a good HD TV and save yourself £300.

That's one of the ones I was looking at depay mate apprently the 49" version has a better picture quality.

You have never owned a 55" before I'm not sure if that makes a difference in image quality and frame replenishment rate or other such techno bable?

Can't go wrong with either LG or Samsung telly's, not upto speed on all the jargon but would have thought you will get the dogs boll*cks for £800.
TV's are so cheap these days.

I remember back to the late 70's when my grandparents bought a 28" PYE with remote control, with channel up and down (all four of them) and volume high and low.

Think it cost in the region of £500 pounds back then.

It was also about 3 foot deep and doubled up as a radiator it gave that much heat out.

LG and Samsung are both good brands for TV's at the moment. Panasonic are good when it is actually their TVs you are buying rather than a rebranded Vestel.

For £800 you're probably going to be getting a mid-low range 4k tv (especially at 55". I personally am going to wait until OLED becomes cheaper.

LG TV's have never let me down. Made by same company as Samsung but branded differently apparently.... I've never liked Sony when its comes to TV's

Related question:

I've got a Samsung smart TV which is great except for one major drawback. The internet connection quite often drops and usually I have to switch it off and on again to get Netflicks or whatever to work. It's definitely not a problem with my internet connection in general, as it never happens on other devices. So it's either an issue with the TV communicating with the router or the TV being oversensitive when the bandwidth drops slightly.

Any suggestions how to diagnose / solve this?

PS the wireless router is upstairs and TV downstairs but it would be a pain to move things around.

You really won't tell the difference, unless it's going in a box room

I think your last sentence is the problem, had similar issues with our TV and router being too far apart.

feck TV's not worth the price get a projector

The HD ones broadcast a savage image, you can get the sheet to project onto or any flat pale wall up too 100 inches if you want it, much cheaper then a TV and you can connect anything you want via HDMI etc.

Playstation is unreal on it and any movie say HD or Blu Ray will broadcast in that format once you have the HDMI cable connecting the playing device to the projector.

Get a 1080p OLED.

4K isn't gonna take off anywhere like 1080p and you will really struggle to see the difference on a 55".

Not got the room for a projector.

My mates got a man cave in his basement with one in and the footy is brilliant on it.

I have an old 40" Samsung upstairs and it's at least 10 years old and still going strong.

On the lookout for a 4K TV myself.

I might wait until the summer because there might be some good deals running in line with the European Championships.

A projector in the basement is awesome as there is a limited over flow of light from windows etc.

I was in Curry's and I seen an LG 4K OLED and it was very impressive. Well over two grand though.
