There was a study that linked a rise in male suicides to watching United in 4K

I didn't think any sports other than that specific BT Sport channel show games in the 4K format anyway?

No point for 5 years imo. Like 3D (which I've used about 3 times).

BTW my comment on Samsungs, they were Plasma, so that's probably the issue. Both had the dreaded black/ green lines right down the screen. I have a 22" in the bedroom which is going okay.

Regular 1080p HD scheduled TV doesn't look better on a 4K TV, unless your screen is over 60+ inch or you sit a yard away.

Sometimes with all the 'added frames' and 'motion plus' features that come with the 4K upscaling of regular HD TV it sometimes makes them appear worse, and blurred - and look better on a good quality HDTV.

This was my understanding.

And I don't see BBC or ITV doing anything for the Euro's, or even the Euro's after that.

I went to see my mate's 4KTV (he calls it a 4G TV)... He was talking up the image and I noticed it was on an SD channel... I switched it to HD and his mind was blown "Wow, this 4K thing is amazing".

This is why manufacturers can keep selling TVs.

HDR, compression rates, better blacks, better contrast, OLED, 10 bit instead of 8 bit colour and a vast list of other things would be far, far better than 4K, especially for UK homes.

feck TV's not worth the price get a projector

The HD ones broadcast a savage image, you can get the sheet to project onto or any flat pale wall up too 100 inches if you want it, much cheaper then a TV and you can connect anything you want via HDMI etc.

Playstation is unreal on it and any movie say HD or Blu Ray will broadcast in that format once you have the HDMI cable connecting the playing device to the projector.

I am looking into this. I used to have an old soy projector a few years ago for work and i hooked it up and it was nice at night with lights off but in the day in my living room, we get a lot of light and sun, it was rubbish

Not too upto date on projectors but hwo do you get away from the light issue?

any recommendations on projetcors? I stil have the sony LOL

I'm looking for a 55 inch telly too.

My plasma is dying on me.
Went to john lewis last weekend.

1) All the Led tellies even the top of the range Samsung and sony's I have to say look really bad compared to plasma. The images are sharp. But they just don't compare to the the contrast and vividness of plasma/oled.

2) I went in there thinking to get the highly rated LGEF55950V but its looked awful for me (compared to current plasma).

3) The OLED's on the other hand achieve the same contrast as plasma, and look much much better - like looking through a window.

4) 4K is not necessary - makes no difference to human eye.

With that in mind save up for the HD oled by LG - its only £1300. If you really want 4K (and flat not curved) then Currys have the new 4K LG oled £2.3k. I will get that one (not for the 4K but for the flat screen.)

Related question:

I've got a Samsung smart TV which is great except for one major drawback. The internet connection quite often drops and usually I have to switch it off and on again to get Netflicks or whatever to work. It's definitely not a problem with my internet connection in general, as it never happens on other devices. So it's either an issue with the TV communicating with the router or the TV being oversensitive when the bandwidth drops slightly.

Any suggestions how to diagnose / solve this?

PS the wireless router is upstairs and TV downstairs but it would be a pain to move things around.

The good things about these is that you can add as many as you like. I've got them in nearly every room. I only bought the extender for the firestick.

Last year i bought a Samsung smart TV from curry's, like you i have my router upstairs and would it hell connect, had a bit of to and fro-ing with curry's and things got ugly, cut a long story short i got my money back.
Left things for a few months then eventually took the plunge and got a Panasonic 50" Smart TV which connects no problem, didn't go for the 4K though.

Very happy with it so far

I don't know what Phillips TV's are like these days but the kids have one of the first what I call slim screens in their play room. Must be 10 or so years old and still going strong, good picture considering not HD and has had numerous knocked over incidents.
________________

I am on the hunt for a new TV to replace my Philips Ambilight. Granted it is about 8 years old now but it first started having clouding issues within 2-3 years and these grew over time into large dark streaks which made the TV completely unwatchable.

Philips customer service said this could not be fixed and that TVs are not expected to last that long! I asked him how long a TV should last when it cost over £2000 and he didn't have an answer to that...

Stay away from Philips imo.
