Mason was one of our top prospects when a youngster.
Not sure how old you are Analog, but this was around the 2008 mark I think. Him and Caulker, possibly Obika, were the top prospects then.
I didn't deny he was considered a top prospect back then
But a bigger prospect than Kane? That's just making things up
Analog
I didn't deny he was considered a top prospect back then
===============
Yes you did, you said the following:
"There's a reason we didn't make it at Spurs until 23/24 and his breakthrough being mostly down to his work rate. Because that's what he is mostly, a workhorse”.
Where in that sentence did you claim he was a good prospect?
You have simply made an uneducated guess about his youth based on him getting his chance later than some others, i.e. basically you thought you could blag it.
Chicken
I see you haven't responded to me showing you up a few comments above
I said this:
"When fit, he's as good as anyone else in our squad and deserves a bit more credit IMO".
Which is a post i stand by. It wasn't too long ago he was a regular in the starting line-up, and it was only injuries that ended this run, which kind of backs up the point that he is as good as anyone (obviously, positional wise) in the team.
He may not always win MoTM but he never looks out of place in the team.
Then stick to that opinion. Don't then come out with this...
'There is a huge difference between me claiming Mason is above Championship standard and claiming he is one of the best players we have...'
'There is a huge difference between me claiming Mason is above Championship standard and claiming he is one of the best players we have...'
=====================
Que? He is on par with the players we have in his position - hence he has (and would) play more regularly if he hadn't suffered injuries - but i wouldn't put him in the same class as say, Lloris or Kane in terms of their overall value to the team. But you may have noticed, neither Kane or Mason compete for Mason's role .
You didn't mention that you were referring to player's in his position. And btw Dembele is about 10 classes above Mason anyway in that case
You didn't mention that you were referring to player's in his position.
==========================
So you thought i was comparing apples to pears? WTF?
Demeble is a class above all of our midfielders IMO. Always said that.
Using your logic it wouldn't make sense to say that Kane is our best player - because you can't compare him to player's in other positions

==================
This is true. How can you compare Lloris and Kane, for example? It would be pretty stupid to claim either is better than the other, wouldn't it? .
Fair enough
I suppose they should cancel the Ballon D'Or in that case
I don't think anyone ever thought Kane was the new Ronaldo in his youth career. There wasn't the buzz around him that say Joe Cole or Jack Wilshere had
He was a decent prospect, no more so than any others we've had in that period
Nope, ask look like modric, everybody in the academy knew Kane would make it at Spurs, was scoring bundles at that level, and played for England at his age groups far more often and successfully than Mason
Nobody would have been certain Kane would make it 2yrs ago, let alone in in his youth career
I suppose they should cancel the Ballon D'Or in that case
========================
I dont think the Ballon D'Or has ever translated to "best player in every position on the field". It is just a player of the year award - but for all clubs across europe.
When Messi won it (for example), he was not named the best forward, midfielder, defender and goalkeeper in the world - but just that he performed the best over that particular year, in his position.

He was named the best overall player - not the best overall forward - and so, yes, he was compared to and was competing against players in different positions

Of course he was competing against all players - but the award isn't to say Messi is better in all positions than every other player.
Which going back to my point, i said Mason is as good as anyone on his day (in our squad). Most people (other than you, it seems) would have known i was referring to his specific position and not that he's as good in goal, at centre half or better than Kane upfront...

Of course I didn't think you meant Mason was as good up front as Kane
Usually, when talking about best players in the squad, it means the best in their respective positions, compared to others in their respective positions
Eg Kane is one of our best players, but only up front. He wouldn't be at CB...
Analog why are you wasting your time arguing with Chicken? he purposely misses the points the other person makes, and he will say you meant one thing when he knows full well you meant something else.
a total waste of time to even bother with him.
I knew it wouldn't be long until Chronic came on here to try and get in on the act…. No opinion on the matter in question, no clue about what’s going on, but the site busybody just has to try and add fuel to the fire. What a .
interesting how you didn't even try to argue against what I was saying because you fully know that its 100% correct
luckily I am around on ja606 to point things like this out to the public
Chronic,

I'm not interested. I suggest you go find Maf...
coming from you chicken... THE most argumentative person on here...
I have previously commented in this article on my thoughts and even written articles about what my team would be v lesta, so no point saying I duck the topic on hand in articles....
on every article I comment on I will normally put my cards on the table very early on.
I just saw the signs in your debate with Analog that I always see when you debate with me.
1. you are ridiculously stubborn
2. you don't listen to the other person most times
3. if you do listen you purposefully misconstrue what the person says because you know you are on the wrong end of the debate.
and that's why its pointless debating with you
