adritk......he never really had 'good or better' players around him with us, if we'd have invested proper money in proper quality players i'm sure he have been worth the 12k per week

posted on 14/1/16

Why isn't he worth that? What do you think Everton will be paying?

He's played over 150 games! So yes he's worth more.

It's a symbolic selling of our aspirations to get promoted, just as it was with Mccormack.

Saving 12k per week but eroding chance of ever getting promoted is false accounting on Cellino's part.

Big dunc

Full back, good technical ability so can play in different roles

If he ends up been first choice for you guys, you'll be struggling

But likable lad, won't ever let you down with good attitude.

Decent signing for you.

But don't be expecting John stones standard

He's sounds bang average.

Nice screenname Alasnomore!

I think Everton will bring him on and he will be much better than he is now, which is not as bad as you may think, given the comments here.

Most of us are disappointed to see him go.

Some sound happy to see the back of him.

We need cover while Holgate develops and Byram will give that at RB and MF. With just six months left it is a fair deal for Leeds.

posted on 14/1/16

Eddie, your "most" is more than my "most," I think?

Arouna, although he had 6 months left, due to his age and being an academy product we would have received at least tribunal money.

posted on 14/1/16

But what would that have been, it must be equal or possibly more than that or the club would have kept hold of him?

Garbutt on the left, Byram on the right....

Cellino said in May he wouldn't be selling the youth, this is just the start, no different to previous owners.

Let's just hope we don't have to listen to Cellino and Evans putting him down now.

-------------------

Hang on a minute. For months posters like Liw have been saying he's been bang average for the last 2 years. Why should a player performing like that get a pay rise and a better contract? He's been played out of position, for me he's never a winger, but that aside apart from the goals in Dec, I really don't think he's been that outstanding. Everton obviously do, as do West Ham if rumours are true, but I can only go on what I see watching him week in, week out.

the club offered him a deal and he's declined it. My guess is, and this isn't an attack on Sam that he fancies/fancied the idea of Prem football (and who can blame him) and so has resisted contract offers. The club are therefore quite right to flog him, however regrettable, and get the best price for him. Youth players are sellable if they don't want to sign an extended contract at the club - no owner, regardless of club or league, would do any different.

Your second point I quite agree. I don't think we will.

He wasn't asking for a pay rise, he was told to take a pay cut.

I'll stick my neck out and predict he will play right back internationally In the future.

Everton have bought potential. At RB he will flourish in their team. Unfortunately our owner and the managers we've had recently haven't been able to see that.

He's been held back at our club so I say good luck to him and I hope he goes on to embarrass our owner and managers who persisted in playing him out of position.

It's not so much because he's played so well because he's been off form for ages, it's the way the club have sold yet another talented youngster and he's not played that well for 2 years because he's been out of position, you can see the quality he has (if you watch him every week) and Everton have seen that quality and potential and taken it, whilst we lose out again.

Why do Everton see him as good enough? Because he is a quality, classy player.

Thrown him on the ever growing pile of talent we've lost at Elland rd, whilst our current owner lines up his cheap replacment from serie B on a season long loan.

Next will be Cook (who has no end product) so that will be OK until he moves to the PL and starts to mature as a player in his early 20's and get's into the England team, people will then see why we should have kept him.

I agree Stoopo.

Whole situation, as per usual has been handled stupidly.

Cellino wanted Sam off the books from the beginning.

Had he acted at the beginning, just saying, too high an earner, got to cut the costs and sold him with a decent amount of contract left we could have got double or more what we're getting now.

Instead we'e had a protracted shambles that has no doubt distracted the team as well and we end up with less money for a player.

I wish Sam well in the future, am sure we'll see him in an England squad at some point.

Wonder if we'll see Byram and Garbutt playing in same side?

Not while Coleman and Baines are playing....

Garbutt has the best chance to break through

posted on 15/1/16

For me Garbutt has a wand of a left foot when on his game, maybe not a freekick taker like Baines but such a good mid and long range passer, I would say it is not out of the question that he may move forward on the pitch and become more of a left midfielder.

I've not watched Byram play more than a couple of times on Sky, but he's looked ok when I've seen him. I think the risk for us is how much of an upside does he have? Have we seen the best of what he can do or can he kick on again in the Prem?

toffegod

His best season was his first with us, when he played RB every week, he was actually burned out and got a bad injury we played him that much.

His defending was good, but he actually influenced games from that area in a team with zero width.

Ever since he'd played mostly as a winger and most regulars at Elland Rd would agree he isn't natural in that area, but being such a skillfull player he has still done OK.

Best attributes for me:

Movement
Positioning
First touch
Passing ability
Composure

Most would agree he's not played amazing for some time, but only 22 and there is a very classy player there who will do very well in the Premier League with a very good winger in front of him.

Won't he have Lennon in front of him?

it can only help Sam surely.

posted on 15/1/16

More often he would have Deulofeu in front of him. By the osunds of Sam that could be absolute mustard going forward, maybe a little short defensively!

posted on 15/1/16

Will be interesting seeing how he does anyway, he's got a great attitute so will hopefully get his chance.

Painful again it's not with us like many, many others who we've flogged.
