The time of - some very good points.

The reason the song is sensitive with the Liverpool fan base is pretty much Hillsborough. For 25 years fans of the club heard the same thing - it's never your fault, just accept some responsibility. It took 25 years for the truth to come out - that's a long time to be told to man up and take responsibility especially now we know the truth.

I'm sure you're right about the origins of the song. You'd have a much better idea than me after all. However, the song is pretty much sung these days because it hits a nerve with Liverpool fans. It hits a nerve because of the Hillsborough cover-up.

As you said, it's pretty much a no win situation for Liverpool. In an ideal world the song wouldn't be sung because of the context. However, in an ideal world the munich song wouldn't be sung either. I won't hold my breath on either front.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Individuals will sing the song with their own intents. That can't be controlled or proven. Some will sing it with all the venom of a Munich or Heysel or Hillsborough chant. And it's clear we agree they should be ashamed.

But the song itself is what it is. A song about victim mentality.

In an ideal world, there would be no reason to sing the song, and certainly no reason to sing about tragedies like Munich or Hillsborough which everyone on this board wishes never happened.

I'd be happy to drink to that thought.

If the song is about Suarez, how was it sung before he signed? The song came out after the tragedies, 'it's never your fault, always the victins'. Yeah, it's a great song and has nothing to do with the tragedies
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's about Liverpool's victim mentality. It is not about tragedies or any specific event.
If you want to make it about specific tragedies, you can. And that would be you having a victim mentality. Which proves the true meaning of the song right.
-----
But the tragedies are where the victim tag came in. Anything derived from that is distasteful. Also it's impossible for Liverpool fans to collectively have a 'victim mentality'. I fear for the intelligence of people who actually believe stuff like that.

Indeed - happy to drink to that.

You can say it's simply a victim mentality song and perhaps to some it is. I guess it raises the question, which comes first; the mentality or the event. To many I suspect the mentality which the song refers to was created by the refusal to accept responsibility for the tragedies which the song is not about. Chicken and egg?

Personally I'm not one that gets upset by these songs anyway. It's only words and I have no time for people that go out of their way offend others.

The Munich chants are about suarez, and we make plane noises in reference to you dive bombing down the table.

After Utd fans were universally lambasted for singing the victim song after the Hillsborough papers were released we were all informed that the song was actually about Luis Suarez. The same Luis Suarez that left eighteen months ago. Heard it sung quite a few times today by the away section.
Could it be that some Utd "fans" weren't being entirely truthful?

...................................................

I hope this is some kind of wind up or deliberate attempt to be dense.

Its regarding a victim mentality the Liverpool fans display, which they should with Suarez making him the victim after he racially abused Evra.

Not sure the Liverpool fans transferred to Barcelona.

Not sure they would have paid any money for them let alone tens of millions

Which they showed with Suarez

rather than should with Suarez.

Are people being obtuse on purpose? You have to laugh. So how was the song sung before Suarez was a Liverpool player?
Defending the indefensible
We all know why they used to tell Liverpool fans 'it's never your fault, always the victims'.
Chelsea fans defended Terry. They also defended Jose saying the world was out to get them. United fans have a specific term for non United supporters, 'ABU' which going by the logic of some geniuses on here would be the single biggest manifestation of victim mentality. Spurs fans feel ignored by the pundits and media. It's just the way football fans are. No fan base can be rationally said to do this less or more than any other.
It's good banter, but you start to worry when you see otherwise intelligent people actually start to believe that such a fairy tale is true.

I've seen people label themselves ABU, that is people who aren't United fans.. Seems unlikely these guys who don't like United have a victim mentality on behalf of United....

I've seen people declare themselves 'ABLs' going by that logic. You think it only happens to United? Bless. It happens to just about anyone who is anyone. United fans thinking their case is worse is just victim mentality, going by your logic.

Okay.

Do I?

Do you have any evidence of this in the form of a qoute that I typed?

Or are you just making up stuff again

Worse than who?

I don't remember specifically stating it was worse in Uniteds case than someone else's.

It's a question. How is stuff made up in a question? Feck me how obtuse is this lad?

You don't have to. You are not the source of the discussion points, they are not derived from you. Stop with the delusions of grandeur. You are neither an authority nor very articulate.

.............................

If it was just a question then why did you put bless on the end?

Either you have a basic understanding of English and said bless because you do think I think It only happens to United fans or you are actually far stupider than I ever gave you credit for and thought the bless comment at the end was part of the question..

Neither that look good for you.

So in summary, United fans have a victim mentality because they say there are ABUs, even though people proudly label themselves ABU,

I think you are struggling here Mamba even by your lower standards.

Yes and then put bless on the end, as you were claiming that United fans think they only think it happens to themselves....

But you haven't actually provided any proof of that and now are trying to backtrack and claim your bless didn't mean that.

Either you meant that or you have less understanding if English than any other poster on ja606 which is quite some achievement!
