5 of them are kids & 2 key midfielders have been injured all season.
30-7 = 23
Minus Forsyth, injured for the rest of the season = 22
Minus the 1 extra you included as you only list 29 = 21
The argument is 2 fold, if you want to play for Derby and we have a big squad then players have to try harder and not sulk and moan about how big the Squad is.
Pearce will likely go out on loan, Baird will be a bench man purely because of the range of positions he can be average in, Lowe has been injured, Bryson will probably be shipped out and i will be very surprised if Russell is still here come Feb.
That's it then. No solution.
#CB4 is sorely missed: he's twice the midfielder Johnson is.
Long term maybe right about Russell but given he has been pretty well a 1st choice for clement, I'd say he is one of the favourites and doubt he would be let go mid season. Johnny has the sort of attitude managers like, even if he isn't in the best form. I would be sorry to lose Bryson before he gets himself properly fit and gets a chance to have a run at the 1st team, in form he his the type of player we need, and who is going to take him injured? Anyway, what do I know!
The detailed criticism does not detract from the main argument. We need to pick a midfield from the 7 or 8 candidates and stick to the plan. The same applies to the strike force. I don't think it matters a lot who PC decides on. He just has to get them playing together by giving them a long run.
Of course, it's always possible the shock of our so sudden decline may galvanise our team - but frankly I doubt it. I can see a repeat of last year. And is there anyone out their who believes, really believes, it was Mike Ashworth who caused our upset? It was something to do with the attitude of the bulk of our players.
Of course it matters who the coach picks. Picking the team is the most important job of a coach. All the 2W formation bull$hit is secondary to the quality of the players on the pitch. We need the best 11 out there every time.
This Mike Ashworth has a lot to answer for. Tell me where he lives and I'll be round with my baseball bat and sort him out.
We don't have 7 or 8 midfield candidates at present though do we?
We have Thorne, Butterfield, Johnson & Hendrick. Hanson at a push.
In attack we have lots of options, but out of form "widemen" and centre forwards lacking service.
Carson
Baird, Keogh, Shackell, Warnock
Hendrick, Thorne, Butterfield, Camara
Martin, Blackman/Bent/Ince/Weimann/Russell
I reject 3Rs hypothesis about the the number of players being the problem. Watford have more players to pick from than any other club in the Premiership and they aren't doing too bad. They also change their manager at the drop of a hat and it doesn't affect the team. So long as the manager picks the best players for the job then a small club like Watford can compete with the best in the country.
I’m not sure that the team spirit is the problem, nor that that there is has been a drop in team spirit since Blackman and Camara joined. Don’t forget we had inept performances against the dogs and Leeds, Middlesbro and on other occasions we have not exactly `clicked’.
I would argue that we have players good enough to get us out of this division; a few months ago they were good enough to get us top of the league. I agree that PC needs to settle on a system and then find the best players to play that system; he then needs to sort out in his mind the players who could be substituted for these positions if the needs arise.
For me, with players I have seen this year I would go: Carson in goal, back four picks itself, Thorne just in front of them. Midfield with Jeff and Butters until Bryson gets back to full fitness. Johnny on the left, Camara on the right with instructions to get the ball behind the defenders, get to the bye line and cross where I would have Johnson playing up front.
Bit radical about Johnson playing up front, but if we can get crosses into him he is the best attacking header of the ball we have, he also has a great shot and can defend higher up the pitch better than Martin.
I would like to see more attacking football and more chances created. This can be done if we pass the football quicker and in the right direction.
Spart. Yes it matters who he picks, tactically and according to form etc. But he needs to condense his squad and they are all of undoubted quality. So, what I meant was that it's up to him to condense the squad into one that will gel into the most effective unit. Having done that, he then needs to pick the best side of the moment
4 games ago we were top of the league, there isn't a major problem. All that's happened is we've had 2 poor home performances in which we've dropped 5 points, whilst Hull won both games they played.
People are going wayyyyy over the top about things, as usual.
After Burnley away, we have a dozen or so games against lower opposition in which we'd hope/expect to pick up a shedload of points. We also have Hull at home to play yet.
We did 'settled' and it went great, right up until 'settled' got us figured out. It takes more than a decent Plan A to get promoted and therein is the reason for the changes to personnel and to formation currently underway.
We'll get there

No, that would be coaching as the name suggests.
What you need is a Picker.
Glad to help.
Every team has a few bad results and it hard to say why. When Leicester stormed this division a couple of seasons ago they lost 4 1 at home to Brighton. I don't think they changed the way they played after that.
Our problem over the first five games after losing Bryson and Hughes in the first game was getting the ball from defence to attack. We signed Butterfield and Johnson and solved that problem.
Our problem over the first few games of the second half of the season has been getting the ball from defence to attack. Johnson has been awful over these games, giving the ball away cheaply. I can't recall him making one successful pass against Brum.
We have no one like Hughes who can play the weighted through ball so the attackers can get behind the opposition back four so we have relied on wide players to run at the opposition down the flanks. Ince is useless at this, he is best running at players down the middle. Johnny hasn't been as effective at this in the past few weeks and neither has Weimann.
Camara looked the real deal as a winger in the two cameo performances but can he keep that up for a whole game. We need Johnson to be coached into passing the ball to a colleague. Let him forget the long passes as I am better at them than him and I kniow I'm useless. We need Butterfield or Bryson to support the attacking players. We need wide man who can deliver the ball into the penalty area. As we have a large squad I can't see why we can't get back on track. A victory over Burnely would be sweet.
Johnson has done nothing since before Forest away. The best our midfield "3" has looked was at Hull. And that was Thorne,Butters,Jeff. Jeff got dropped after that game to allow Johnson back in. I do believe Clement has far too many options available to him. When you have that there is always the temptation to tinker or feel you have to keep players happy. A year or 2 ago we all could probably name 9/10 of the side. Now I think everybody would have a totally different side...nevermind formations. I'm hoping it is a dip in "form" and not anything else but we don't look a happy bunch at the minute. The other day I picked the same midfield 4 that Milf has done on this thread. Hendrick on the right Thorne & Butters centre and give Camara his chance on the left. Hendrick has played wide for Ireland and can tuck in as well leaving licence for Camara. Up top with the best centre forward in the league would be Weimann or Blackman for me. Weimann's best position is down the middle and hes hardly had the chance there. Id like to see him play there before he disappears without trace.
