Surely the fact i have given Edwards plenty of praise kind of makes a mockery of your suggestion Bute.

No. You damn with faint praise.

No, i don't, quite happily have said he was our best midfielder yesterday and indeed last week and of course during various other games when i believe he deserves it.

Not to mention thinking he is a truly excellent professional and stating that i hope he finishes his csreer at Wolves.

Yep, clearly a scapegoat.

Funny though that it is only average players that suffer from it Bute.

Unbelievable. Average players don't make it professionally. It's a tough business for any wannabe footballer to get into. In fact percentage-wise it's a tiny amount who make it from those who try. That's why you and me never made the grade!

yeah, its a relative term which i kind of assumed anybody on a forum would grasp.

can a Damascus moment be spread over several years?

You don't need to hate someone, or not praise them for them to have been a scapegoat at certain points. You only need to give them unfair blame for other's performances or the failings of the team.

You have done that in abundance with Edwards this season, regardless of how he played (particularly earlier in the season). I recognise you don't want to admit that, as it makes a person come across as unreasonable at times, but it is what has happened.

I'm going to leave this now though, as the whole conversation is pointless. It's obvious to everyone else on the forum scapegoating has happened and it always will to some degree. Peace out.

Did i?

I thought i had said that he and Afobe is a terrible combination and brought up lots of evidence to put some meat to my opinion, highlighting the clear difference between Afobe playing with Edwards and without Edwards.

Again, not scapegoating, just an opinion you may or may not share.

Keep trying to change the facts with your squirming Cinci. Match after match you singled Edwards out for criticism with no justification whatsoever. You did so in matches you hadn't seen and in matches which lead to him being voted our player of the month. How he has played the last two games has typified how he has played all season. So any praise just re-emphasises how disengenuous you are

Better to suggest that 2 players don't play well together, than continuously label one as a scapegoat.

But I agree this discussion is going nowhere, and not wishing to bang my head against the wall any longer, I too will exit the argument.

You are talking complete shat DJ, and what makes it all the more humourous is you share my view as i have read elsewhere today you class him as 'average' and in need of moving on from.

EEL, Batth, Golbourne, Afobe, , Ikeme and Henry may as well join Edwards in the scapegoat department as they fit the criteria.

So being a scapegoat isn't rare at all then as it seems to fit most of our players.

Keep trying Cinci. As we have said before when you have tried desperately to drag me down to your level, I have regularly given Edwards praise this season and last and the season before, and a month ago said it was a toss up between him and Henry who was our best player in the first half of the season.

As bute and tam have said it seems you have little understanding of what the word scapegoat means. How does me saying McDonald, Edwards, Henry, Golborne are players we should be looking to move on from represent me scapegoating Edwards? Compare that to you singling Edwards out for criticism in virtually every game in the first half of the season.

We will let others decide which one of us talks shat

I'll leave this discussion as well but you will doubtless carry on arguing even if you are the only one left

It doesn't represent scapegoating because the term is a bolloks one, as i have said above.

If the term is legitimate then numerous players of ours fall into the category, and in that case the term is pretty much obsolete.

As for arguing, don't look at me, Bute brought up this bizarre conversation as he was in the mood for creating an argument, nobody else.

Scapegoat:

Originally a Biblical term derived from the practise of the chief priest laying the sins of the people upon Dave Edwards, who would then be released into the wilderness. Because Dave was a willing runner, the fact that he would be twenty miles away within a few hours would be symbolic of the people's sin being far removed from the camp.

Rumour gathering pace that a deal is imminent to sell RVLP to Huddersfield for 1 million.

Not sure i believe this to be honest, would be a pointless move for him surely.

Snap their hands off - will never be any more than a £100k lower league journeyman.

We have or at least had every intention of selling him, the loan was nothing more than to get him some game time and hope Brighton were keen to keep him.

Injuries and selling Afobe is the only reason he has got a game.

We shall see, but to me it would be ridiculous to sell at the moment given he has a few uses and we are extremely short in an attacking sense.
