We've had the argument before -

Cat A's with a 20k crowd brings in as much if not more than Cat C @30k.

£840k v £630K

That's £210K more income. Less staff needed and even allowing for other matchday sales it makes sense to over price for short term gain.

Long term it's disastrous though.

Honestly, we'll end up a 15k crowd on a sat at this rate, god knows how little will turn up for Notts Forrest on a monday at £36 a ticket.

Harrogate, but at least the players on the pitch won't be being paid much.....

Exactly Harj - which leads to less sales and even crappier atmosphere.

Typical when I qualify for concessions now

If reducing our wage bill at a detriment to the team is considered an achievement then yeah, he's done a great job

In reality though, we are no better off on the field than we have been for 10 years

These are wages figures since admin:

2007 / 8 .… LG 1 ….. -£12,746,000 … Bates
2008 / 9 .… LG 1 ….. -£12,281,000 … Bates
2009 / 10 .… LG 1 ….. -£13,721,000 … Bates
2010 / 11 … Champ … -£16,508,000 … Bates
2011 / 12 … Champ … -£17,828,000 … Bates
2012 / 13 … Champ … -£20,004,000 … Bates/GFH
2013 / 14 … Champ … -£22,370,000 … GFH/Cellino
2014 / 15 … Champ … -£13,000,000 … Cellino

I'm not sure about the £13m, it's all rumour, anyway.

We should get a better idea when we see the accounts. Even then I'm sure it won't be as clear as we'd like. As always.

I doubt it.

^^^ just realised the £13m is for the current year and a rumoured £19m for 2014/15.

High wages at Leeds (in comparison to other teams in the same league) has always been a problem in my view.
Getting people in who want to play for the club and on a decent wage has to be the key, not get them in, as we pay more than everyone else.
Footballers demand an inflated wage unfortunately but lets not make it worse by contributing to the problem.

There's a balance though Hunwick don't you think?

If you pay peanuts you'll get chimps .......... you'd have to be really lucky to forge a team capable of promotion, and all the revenue that brings, constantly scrimping on paying players. If you aren't willing to pay the going rate for a reliable goal scorer then you get an average one - or get lucky and find a lower league gem. Not sure our current scouting system is up to that if we're being honest?

I really don't want to return to the lunacy of the Ridsdale era, but sometimes you have to speculate. I guess that as a club we simply aren't financially able to compete .......... or Cellino is tight as well as mad!!!

I believe it's £13 million. We have a threadbare squad made up of Italian 2nd division players and academy players. These are cheap players.

It is about getting the right players. Obvious I know.
You don't have to throw tons of money at it.
Look at Warnock's All-Stars. Cost a fortune and
were sh 1 te. All Colin's mates sucking club dry.

Spot on mate

Problem is, normally the right players cost

Pretty solid point LIW.

But remember us all raving about Bournemouth
and how they did it, pretty much, the right way.
That got damn near every decision and signing
bang on, without breaking the bank.

I personally am a broken record over Arter.
Brilliant signing. About as astute as it gets
outside of Vardy for Leicester.

It can be done at cost. Don't always need a ton
of money in order to make a great addition.
We did it with Snoddy, Max, and BJ back in
the good old days.

IMO & I know some of you will disagree with me, but hey that's what debating is all about...but I don't think you need to spend a fortune to fight for promotion....

Harj, the point is, all clubs with ambition spend, we sell and bring in more money than we spend, whislt other clubs are investing year in year out.

Point taken Jonty...

Spot on VOF I believe it's a balance that requires a lot of luck and knowledge of players to help bring in quality players at the right cost both in terms of transfer fee but more importantly the wages. This is something we have generally failed badly at for a very long time.

Do you really think that Bournemouth, Watford, Norwich, Southampton, Leicester etc all had lots of luck when signing players?

Or do you think that maybe they were prepared to invest decent amounts, encounter some duds along the way, but actually have a plan and supportive board that had the patience to see a plan to fruition?

Beyond me how they did it without having 6 managers in 2 seasons.

Luck is needed in all forms of success. Simply put we sign a player for £20M and 2nd game in he breaks his leg wow that's him out for at least 12 months. Unlucky or what.
Bournemouth have had some critical injuries this season and may still be relegated because of it.
