It also prevents Pulisaurus from spending £25 million on the Harlem Globetrotters!

Not sure it's part of any masterplan if past sale attempts are anything to go by - JP will drive a hard bargain and there is nothing in the pipeline to suggest any sale this coming summer. Plus, Berahino's transfer value will diminish as time goes by, thus making the balance sheet weaker, not stronger.
Not selling him stops Newcastle having him and most likely leapfrogging us in the table, and it stops Spurs from having him too. Shame Stoke didn't submit a winning bid, he definitely would be going nowhere with them, and he would probably have turned down a move to them anyway.
I think Berahino ought to now get his head down and play his football, as he should have done from day one of this whole business. That helps Albion and boosts his saleability.

If Berahino scores 1 goal to keep us up, he'll earn us 150 million pound. That's why 21 mill wouldn't cut the mustard.

I think there is a lot in what you say, Cox. I believe given more time the Chinese might well have bought last season. They may return in the close season, but only if we remain in the PL. Our best chance is by retaining and playing Berahino. I still respect Pulis but January is a bad time to be buying and his track record is mixed to say the least.
Assuming Villa to down this is an important crossroads for the club if we become the West Midlands sole representative in the PL. If we do not get a buyer, I guarantee we will not survive in the PL much longer.

Where do you get the figure of £150m from JH ?
Has the TV money been increased by 50% ?

'Guarantee' is a strong word to use, Alouion. How do you come to that conclusion?
For me, the Chinese can get stuffed. I question their genuine interest in football in general and in West Bromwich Albion other than as some sort of cash cow.

The only benefit I can see if we did sell out to the Chinese would be that when you met them they'd say:
"Wah u wan?" and you could say "a number ten an a number ereven prease"

I wouldn't trust the as far as I could throw a bowel of noodles.

Poor again last night and very lucky to get a point. Can't really blame Fletch too much for missing those chances - he's not a striker. Now In the mire losing Johnny Evans for some weeks with a hammy.

I think a number ten is a bowl of noodles, and a number eleven could be Sezchuan chicken, but I could be wrong.
I can see it now. Our new Chinese owners would have us play in Man City strips and our name would be West Blomwich Arbion Footbor Crub.

I'd guess that our total turnover (including the new TV deal) would amount to £150 million.

There is an interesting article on why Peace won't sell Berahino. Obviously it is some speculation, but it would make sense.

http://www.thesecretfootballer.com/articles/the-secret-footballer/29898/strange-case-of-star-player-caught-in-middle-of-chairman-manager-transfer-standoff/

Reckons there is no trust between the chairman and manager. The manager uses his own agent to bring in players and therefore takes a cut of any transfer deals. The chairman wants to maximise any money he would get out of selling Berahino and doesn't trust the manager to do that.

Good article and maybe some truth in it.

If it is the case then Pulis will be gone in the summer and before Saido leaves.

Some will say 'hooray'.

JH - I believe that we will not stay long in the PL. Obviously I hope I am wrong but I cannot see us staying in the 10th -17th slot year on year unless there is a major injection of funds to this club.
This might happen if the Chinese return this summer for another attempt to buy us. Clearly we need to retain our PL status for this to happen. I would have kept Berahino as insurance that this happens.
I have read this Secret Footballer stuff about Pulis. It would be a complete anathema to Peace if he thought Pulis were ripping off the club. I prefer to hear what Pulis says. You aren't guilty because Secret Footballer says so.

Albion stands at a crossroads at the moment. We could be the only PL club in the area next season. We need to find a way to grow. As they stand Financial Fair Play seems disadvantage clubs like us because of our smallness relative to other PL clubs. Look at Newcastle who have just bought in 4 good players and still have enough to bid £20m for Berahino. I hope new owners might sanction a modest ground enlargement.

Alouion, we've stayed in the PL before without massive injections of external funding. We've done it by buying wisely, and if we stop wasting large sums on players like Big Vic (bought for £6m, worth about £3m when we bought him), Ricky Lambert (shouldn't have bought him at all), and James Chester (did we really need him?), that's £3m+£4m+£8m we arguably didn't need to spend - and I'm presuming we got back most of our outlay for Brown Ideye - a total of £15m - and that's assuming Rondon comes good. When you think that Charlie Austin went for £4m (ok, he was always going to prefer Southampton to us) and Matt Phillips might become available for around the same fee, you have got to question the efficiency of our buying over the pitch. All ifs and buts, I know, and a good dollop of hindsight, but one thing's for sure, TP isn't getting the best out of what I still believe is a talented squad, and I agree with some that he might be gone this summer if he's not careful.
I also agree wth you that TP is innocent of agent abuse/misuse until it's demonstrated otherwise, but if ever it comes out that he is doing that, JP will fire the bullet quickly enough. But of course I hope things don't turn out like that. I just wish TP would address the gaps in our squad (fullbacks, for one) and realise that attacking football is more often better than the football he comes up with too often.

Aries - you know I generally agree with you but we are never going to stop making bad buys. Everyone does it.It is a fact of life.
I maintain that over the Premier League era we have made fewer mistakes than most. Players like Brunt, Morrison, Olsen, Macauley, Myhill, Foster have proved to be great servants for the club. They have however allto be replaced soon.
We are constrained by our size. We will never hold on to really good players before the sharks start to circle round. I believe it is inconceivable we can remain in this small group of clubs underneath the top 6 clubs. To do this season on season you will have to keep pulling rabbits out of the hat. Moreover if we do have some particularly good scouts they will be poached.

There's no question that Pulis (usually) gets the results. And to be fair, WBA could have had six or seven more points on the board this season quite easily. I dont think the table is a fair reflection on the quality of the team.

But Albion look much better when they play with two up front. Most fans see that. Why cant Pulis see it too I wonder?
