no we don't need to sell. you don't need to throw masses of money at it in order to get promoted. look at wolves. they for me are the model club the championship sides aspire to be. through the seasons they kept there squad together without spending masses and without getting a load of premier league rejects they gradually built a squad that was capable of getting promoted. during that that time they stuck with the manager and gave him time to build a squad and try and get promoted. 2 and a half seasons for billy was not enough. a new managers comes in and wants new players meaning more money spent. but we never had any money anyway so he's not happy and the results therefore suffer.
mcclaren won't be given long in the job. which i think is a shame. he needs at least 3 seasons to assemble a squad that can achieve promotion. you can;t do it all in one summer without spending masses of money.
have patience.
BWAH HA HA HA HA !
Poor poor Forest.
Stop being to dramatic! We're only a few games in! If after 20 games we're in the relegation zone, part of me may agree with you, but until then, we have a strong squad of players who are very capable of yet again challenging for a top 6 finish. Patience!

How is the squad stronger than last year?
Wilson has left and not been replaced;
Bertrand has left and not been replaced;
Tyson has been replaced by the inferior Reid;
McKenna has been replaced by the inferior Greening although I would prefer Boateng who is better than both of them;
Earnshaw has been replaced the superior Miller;
Garner has been replaced by Derbyshire
Davies has been replaced by McClaren
stretta red,
Our newly appointed manager is reportedly upset with the board over a lack of signings, just like our old manager. Doesn't that worry you? It bothers me. I understand your wanting to defend ND, but why even appoint a manager like McClaren if you aren't going to listen to his advice. It is ridiculous. ND should just appoint Pleat manager and stop wasting time.

I agree with those that say that the squad is fairly strong. Just because no signings were made yesterday doesn't mean the transfer window was wasted.
Everyone knows that top dollar is paid on the last day. Would those complaining think that Arsenal have made best use of transfer window or would you suggest Man U have, who made several signings weeks ago.
Look at Chelsea last January, they spent about £50m on a player who has scored about one goal since.
Yes, the squad is smaller than last year, but I think that the quality is better. Loan players will hopefully be brought in to provide some back up against injuries, however.
£14m this year from ND, shouldn't be dismissed as lack of commitment to the club as it is probably about 10% of his net worth. Most of the posters on here would be investing a few hundred pounds this year, a far lower commitment in percentage terms even when taking the relative sizes of salaries etc.
Protests are pointless, if all they are suggesting is that he spends more money or sells out.
Mac hardly fills me with confidence, but he has to be given a bit of time.
Those that continue to praise BD, should consider why no one seems to want to employ him, even though he has vast experience.
I said this before and stand by it, we will be
the Sheffield United of last season.
"McKenna has been replaced by the inferior Greening although I would prefer Boateng who is better than both of them;"
Priceless bit of spin. You could say McKenna has been replaced by the superior Boateng" leaving Greening as a pure addition on the squad.
As has been said the loan window opens again soon, Prem teams name their 25 man squad and I'll panic if we don't get anyone in. All FFP excuses go out the window regarding loan signings.
The squad is better going forward but worse in defence. A CB and LB on loan would do wonders.

I'd have Diop and Landsbury but as you say we can't compete with West Ham.
"if doughty is spending his own cash,how can forest be £60M in debt?he is merely securing loans so no money comes out of his own bank.hes done a good job on conning you.wake up."
Stabbo Red, it really isn't me that needs to "wake up". He owns the Club and supports it, the £63m debt financially, and with a regular £6m per annum. Where he gets the money from, his business, his own piggy bank, etc doesn't really matter. If you think his financial backing is trivial, then do it yourself.
But what we do know is that if he wanted to have his money back or stopped stumping up the £6m shortfall in operating costs each year, then Forest would not be around for you to moan about.
I've got no reason to argue with Strettea Red's figures. If they don't show a comittment then I wonder what does.
His commitment is beyond doubt. What is in doubt, however, is his ability to run a football club within it's financial means. Spending more money seems pretty stupid without guarantees of success - and who can give that?
I suspect that he does want promotion, but wants to achieve it without big spending if possible, It is only far eastern consortium or multi billionaires that seem able to throw money away.
Look at Stoke, they got promotion on a very limited budget and it is only several years after gaining promotion have they felt "consolidated" enough to start splashing the cash about.
McClaren out.
That is all
Reid is not better than Tyson. That is likely to be an all to obvious painfull fact in a couple of games time.
