Nigel Pearson

mentioned Pearson on their board when I heard Clement was sacked, ignoring his off field antics a brilliant Championship manager. wouldn't have to do an extensive rebuilding job either, they probably have the best squad in the league and I would bet would get them promoted within a season.

I think he'd be an excellent appointment for them; I thought his most likely destination was Forest, but since Dougie Freedman's got them playing at the moment it seems the managerial vacancy has appeared the other side of the M1.

The main question, as you mention, is all this about "the Derby way". If that means passing the ball to death with disregard for anything else then that isn't Pearson's way. That doesn't mean that he can't get his team playing attractive football - because he can; but not obsessively so.

A little bit confused as our chairman has stated that Wassell will be in charge to the end of the season.

Although we need a pinch of salt when the Chairman `states' anything, what happens if Wassell either gets us promoted or bombs within the first couple of months?

You'd think if Pearson was a target they'd go for him now to see where the season goes then build over the summer after learning about the squad?

From what (very) little I've gleaned about Clement's dismissal is that he was "too short term" in his thinking? Happy to be corrected on this Rams fans...

If that is the case, then this reinforces why Pearson would be a good fit for Derby. He'll build a strong team - which may mean some of the expensive signings made by Derby may find themselves frozen out and eventually sold if they aren't prepared to fight and work hard. Could take 2 seasons, but he'd certainly have them in the Premier League by then, if not sooner.

Regarding Pearson to Forest - I don't think I could ever see that happen, not whilst Fawaz is in situ. Can't imagine the two of them agreeing on much...!

"Just reported on SSNHQ that Derby have contacted representatives of Nigel Pearson about him taking over in the summer."

Which bit are you confused about?

If Pearson can get us playing exciting attacking football that'll do me.

I've just been speaking to a work colleague of mine who is a respected and experienced scout in the Premier League.
He told me that according to his sources, Derby WANT Gary Rowett, but it's going to cost us about 1 million in compensation to BCFC.
Pearson of course, will cost nothing to bring in, but his wage demands will be higher.

As for timing, I will assume that Pearson may have something written in his settlement agreement with Leicester City preventing him from joining another club? That's the only reason I can imagine for delaying an appointment...

The only downside with Pearson is his, shall we say, excitable nature.

Pearson has a better CV than Rowett, but Rowett is more likely to still be in charge 5 years down the line.

Both local men who would understand the club and our fans.

Also, importantly, his son has now got a job somewhere else so there's less chance of him following.

If he's appointed I might run a book on how long it takes for him & Mel to come to blows.

Ajisaram

Perhaps all this is a rouse to get Rowett to hand in his notice - thus removing the £1m barrier...

The job that Nigel Pearson and his team did over his two tenures at Leicester cannot be underestimated. He got us promotion in one attempt the first time and built a squad to get us in the Premier League the second time. It also wasn’t achieved by the scatter gun spending approach favoured by managers like Sven, but with shrewd targeted investment. The job he’d need to do at Derby doesn’t look as big, on the face of it, but it’s possible that the squad might be too bloated and complacent as ours was when he came in the second time.

We all know that he had strengths and weaknesses during his time at Leicester. Strengths: recruitment, team building and player management. Weaknesses: game management, limited tactician, composure and dealing with the press. It is here that the big question mark arises that we’ve all been asking ourselves since he left: how much of the recruitment and team building was down to Nigel Pearson and how much was down to his backroom team? The strong suspicion is that Leicester retained his staff for a reason.

If he goes to Derby and takes Steve Walsh and Craig Shakespeare with him I have not a shred of doubt that he will be very successful. However, if he goes there and has to find a new team then it will be very interesting indeed. My gut feeling is that he’s an intelligent enough fellow to know what he needs, but it might take a bit longer to get there. Others will be convinced that he wouldn’t be half as successful without his right hand men.

Dunge makes an important point. By appointing Pearson, you will be assuring positive and entertaining football, the type of stuff you'll be thrilled watching week in, week out. Just make sure your pre-season activities are confined to areas where the locals have ZERO discernible characteristics that separate them from the characteristics of the team.

And players should leave their mobiles at home.

I heard from a Derby-supporting acquaintance that there have been some unsavoury dressing-room incidents, including Chris Martin bawling out the manager in front of the rest of the squad just before Clement was given the boot.

Pearson would be a good fit, at least until he decks one of the ball-boys or calls out a local journo for a fight

Personally, I would prefer Pearson. Much as I admire the work Rowett has done, he hasn't got a promotion on his CV yet.
Also I don't think Burton fans were too enamoured with the teams style of play when he was there and JFH was very much seen as a breath of fresh air. Stand to be corrected.

However, if MM really wants him then surely £1m isn't going to get in the way? What is it compared to the money we have spent on players (some cynics may say wasted)

You can imagine there will be a fair bit of "contacting of representatives". There is unlikely to be a single target and until you make some sort of contact you don't know the availability or preference of some individuals.

So a shortlist of sort. You would think both Pearson and Rowett would come under consideration together with someone like Rodgers. Of the potential coaches, some might only be prepared to come if we were to get promoted this season. If so, what do you do with Wassall? Give him a multi-million bonus and pack him back to the under 21s or guarantee a place in the next manager's set-up? Someone like Rowett might say (indirectly) "contact me at season's end and maybe we'll think about it" which might be too vague for Morris. With Pearson a deal could be struck now to take over at end of season whichever league we are in.

Rowett for me. Rodgers or Pearson also would do.

Uncle Mel also blasted the Derby match analyst and questioned WTF he was doing. Clement objected.

Bradley Johnson also not upset to see Clement leave - so I'm advised.

I have a Derby supporting acquaintance who seems convinced that David Moyes is the man in the frame. What’s the story with him if any?

It looks very much that MM and many fans have already written off Darren Wassell's chances of success. If that is so, why appoint him in the first place?

Of all the games in all the world he picked Fulham v Derby? hmmmmmm …..

He's been appointed to look after the ship until the end of the season 3R, when a permanent coach will be appointed. What's odd about that?

If under Wassall's stewardship we are promoted I would assume that he would be offered an extension on his contract.

Lionel Pickering sacked Derby legend Roy Macfarland for not winning the play offs, even though we were cheated by the ref. Clement's treatment seems mild in comparison.

I get that Vidal, but what is the Club saying about it's ambitions for the rest of this season. Or is it just written off.?
