Gonna be a whole chapter on how to belittle the press so i hear.

I can completely understand a Turner / McCarthy debate but I'd struggle to put Jones near those two let alone splitting them.

Promotion under him was great but apart from the three games that made up the playoffs he underachieved form the minute he arrived until the minute he left.

season 1 Took over from Lee when we were 12th, finished 12th.

season 2 Spent massively and blew it ending in the ultimate misery of them lot getting promoted and us failing in the playoffs.

season 3 Was lucky to still be in charge for the end of season run that got us into the playoffs.

season 4 bottom of the league

season 5 got sacked when we were 17th in Div2

That is all based on the play off final I think. If you look at the overall time at the club, Mick wins easily.

It that was a fantastic day, but overall? Nah, a catalogue of underachievement like all of our managers during that period.

As Wolfgang says, it is more the significance to me.

Turner for obvious reasons and Jones for being the one to finally end the misery.

The Prem has only existed for about 20 years. Wolves has been in the top league in England many times before Jones got us promoted.

Is Cullis a worse manager than Jones because Cullis never got Wolves promoted to the Prem!

Three fantastic games that got us to where we wanted to be and cemented his place in our affections forever.

Not being any better than Colin Lee when given the same tools.
Spending £10m+ in Div2 and throwing away an 11 pt lead over the sh!t.
Getting turned over at Norwich after they finished 11 pts below us.
Being in the bottom three for the whole season in the Prem.
Not winning any of our first seven games back in Div2

Great guy but not exactly the most inspiring record if you exclude three "cup" games.

There is an inverse logic to Cinci's list.

1) Turner - third most successful of the three
2) Jones - second most successful of the three
3) McCarthy - the most successful of the three

I only remember the end of Turner as I was too young. I remember him leaving in 94 and Taylor taking over, but not a lot more.

Mick would be the best. Jones second. Not a lot to really choose from the rest of them. I guess it would have to be Jackett based on his first two years.

To be fair to Jones, pretty much as soon as we got promoted didnt Hayward pull the purse strings tightly closed? I remember we had to scratch around for minimal outlay signings such as Camara, Silas and Okoronkwo didnt we? Despite that, Jones, Ince , Rae and Co very nearly did the impossible and kept us up.
