His career to date has been absolutely fantastic. It helps to play in such a fantastic team who are good with the ball. For a player so young, it usually results on their career fading early, however, I just don't see that happening with him.

He's a player who compliments his surroundings. He's VERY good, but not the best player in the world ..... and CERTAINLY not the greatest player ever.

Put him in a team where he doesn't have the telepathic supply of Xavi and Iniesta and the result isn't a World Player of the Year. Look at his performances with Argentina for example, the best player in the world would be able to deal with an incompetant set of managers and still perform to his maximum.

Until Messi proves himself on a level beyond Barcelona, which is a TEAM in the strongest sense of the word, he'll always be behind C. Ronaldo in my book.

To say he hasnt reached his peak is ridiculous. Players peak at different stages. For all we know, Messi is in his peak.

Still, amazing player.

You know a WUMs career is going badly when he's referencing his finest work in his defence...

Come on Barry! Do better!!

Sorry friendly atistical man, I will try better on the future, but clutching at straws on here as there isn't as much activity as on 606 where I could go fly fishing using a boot.

HHHBF. I agree with you. Not saying Ronaldo would excel more than Messi has in Barcelona's team. But Ronaldo has more impact on a team. And Messi would not be as good in any other team in the world.

Ronaldo could play in any team in the world as he is an individual player and creates the majority of his goals himself. Messi scores and creates a lot of goals, but wouldn't get anywhere near the statistics he would get not playing in the best team ever.

Try sport witness. It is all just serious people and I find it very difficult to form a respectable opinion, as i am not very clever and my brain lacks qualities in the right areas. Need to limit the amount of teams you can tag here if it gets busier all everyone's articles will be on every teams board! Can't be having that!

It's either you're a Mutd fan, or you are ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS about football in general.
What else does Messi have to do to convince people like you that he is unrivaled?
Messi has won two World player of the year consecutively, it's no fluke, yet people are still spouting rubbish.
So going by logic, what has Ronaldo done for Portugal, and Real Madrid lately?
Ronaldo has only excelled @ Mutd, where he won the World player of the year, CL and the League title.

People often say...Messi plays for the best team, hence; his good statistics.
Please, which World Class player has played for a rubbish team, and gone to win the World player of the year?
People often spout rubbish without even giving it a second thought.
Did Zidane, Brazilian Ronaldo, Figo, Cannavaro, Ronaldinho and the rest play for a team like Stoke, and then went on to win the World player of the year?
Messi is the World's best, whether you people like it or not, and he's also on course to win it for the third consecutive time.
Ronaldo can only dream to be and achieve what Messi has achieved at such a young age.
Next time, before you make yourself sound stupid on a public forum, think twice and do some research before posting.

I think that Messi would be less effective in Madrid and Ronaldo more effective at Barça - although I obviously think Messi is a much better player. People do not realise how Madrid have actually been carried by Ronaldo in the last 2 seasons, he is their only player at times. Messi plays ina a much better team, with much better movement whauc allows him to exploit space and time made by his teammates. However, he still has to performweek in week out, and he does! Unbelievable player.

Give it 2/3 seasons when the Xavi-Iniesta partnership is dismantled. barca wont be half as good and therefore Messi wont be half as effective

I agree about Xavi - he's the rhythm of our team and he and Messia are our most important players. I am one of the few Barça fans who thinks Iniesta is overrated though - a bit lightweight. Villa, despite his relatively poor goal return, has also been one of the major reasons Messi has done well. Ibrahimovic was very static but Villa and Xavi's movement provides a lot of space for Messi.
