The second goal both full backs were way up the pitch trying to get a goal, Evans went out to Jenkinson, I think, Jones was the only defender where he should have been. But it was 6-1 at that point, hardly a game changing goal.

tbf to him he tried to clear it,park should have got closer to RVP,wouldnt say hes overated though
I haven't seen a single person say he's world class. He's certainly a prospect, but anyone who says he's the finished article is an idiot.
Don't forget how poor Evans was at periods last season. At a point in his United career when he could have pushed on. Although he does look more composed this season-i'm sure if Evans wasn't so young he would have gone to Sunderland over O'shea.
But I am of the opinion Jones and Smalling will dominate the United and England back line for years to come

Very true about Evans last season! Purely this season I'm talking. I'm v happy as a norn iron fan
Both goals were Evra's fault in my opinion. A poor clearance for the first (although De Gea should have done better).
On the second goal Evra was out of position when the ball went through to Jenkinson, and never bothered tracking back. It really looked like he didn't care because we were winning by 5. He eventually jogged back and was only about 3 yards away from being able to stop Jenkinson heading back Jones' clearance.
At 19, he has to be the best young CB I have seen in a long long time
He has the agressive nature of Vidic coupled with the composure of Rio
Couple that with the fact he is at a new team at the biggest club in the world and has performed the way he has, that quickly, is quite simply fantastic.
Over-rated? Not a chance. He is an exceptional prospect and if he doesn''t end up a regular for England, I'd be stunned
I think Rio Ferdinand is your moist overrated player - in fact, look at what you're winning without him - he's always injured. Vidic is the key to your defence, a fantastic player and the man to guide both Smalling and Jones to defensive greatness.
Ferdinand has always been loved for his composure on the ball but he has very few good central defensive attributes - least of all, his awful lack of concentration and feeble tackle.
Have we been watching a different Jones OP?
Jones is one of the most technically sound defenders Iv seen. Him and Smalling are extremely comfortbale with the ball at their feet and are at least on par with Rio in his prime on this point.
Defensively he has all the attributes. Strong, great in the air, brave, quick etc. etc. Of course he's going to make mistakes, but like they say, people only imrpvoe by learning from their mistakes.
Anyways, how was the 2nd goal his fault? He headed it away (De Gea shoudlve come for it IMO) and ended up in the net when VPS scored....?
Trust pal, Capello, Ferguson, Wenger, Redknapp, Mancini and Delglish cant all be wrong

Smalling would disagree with you
It was Rio who explained to Smalling how to counteract Tevez in The Derby.last season as an example.
Rio over-rated is an ill-imformed comment in my opinion
Modern day defense is all about pressing. teams press higher and higher up the pitch. this usually means the CBs are the ones who get the space to play the ball out of defense so CBs who are comfortable on the ball are more important than CBs who just hoof it up field. In that regard smalling and jones are valuable assets for both club and the country.
Their defensive attributes will develop with the experience. They will be a world class center back pairing. U should appreciate the fact that both of them are at united. smalling and jones are the future so u better accept them
Trust pal, Capello cant be wrong
I can tell you now, if he was still at Blackburn he wouldn't be close to the England squad. Capello knows nothing.

Jones is the most talented english defender since Ferdinand. With Ferdinand and Vidic teaching him everyday, as well as Ferguson looking after him, do you really think he wont make it?

Ferdinand's "lack of concentration" is a cliche which was only ever sporadically true, and recently is a complete fantasy.
Ferdinand has the awareness and positional nous befitting one of the world's best defenders. He can tackle, and he can pass better than many midfielders.
Vidic is a good defender, he is probably the best at defensive heading in world football, however I feel he doesn't always have the skill to deal with a fast, tricky forward, and can be drawn out of position by a striker with good movement.
But people have claimed he is better than rio etc!
......................
I have to admit, I have not seen anyone make this claim.
What I will say, he he is better than Rio was at that age.
do you really think he wont make it?
Of course I think he'll make it, just saw the opportunity to have a dig at Capello.

I have look and i saw at least Chapion's league and Premier league trophies of 2008. He captained through and played his heart out. He is a special defender that goes half a season with no yellow card. Lack of concentration means yellow and red cards for being second best to the ball.
I also second the OP's point on Jones, seems the English factor is creeping fast and i hope not. The guy has potential please dont kill him with HYPE. Evans aside, i havent seen anything to suggest he's better than Smalling, but he seems to be the new John Terry partner (oh well).
Wilhsere should be aware of the england factor as well, <cough> walcott.

I agrree that Smalling is underrated. Dont understand why poeple seem to think Jones is so much better than Smalling when Smalling was actually better than Rio last season, in a season where we won the league and reached the CL final.
I actually only rememebr Smalling making a handful of mistakes all alst season whereas JOnes has already made a few in 2 games.
Wilshere is class and Im not going to kid myself just because hes a Gunner.
Nope I think he's an excellent defender and prospect and no where near overrated, however calling him the next England's captain is a bit premature. Give him like 3-5 years before labeling him the future England's captain
To be fair I did say he will be world class. Article couple of posts before mine. Uniteds best 11 ppl calling for rio to be dropped! When a good young England star comes to the fore he is killed by the press and the supporters. Jones is nowhere near as good as Terry, rio even phil jag. He will be as good as these but not yet. He is not good enough for 1st choice centre back and luckily for united he's not! In excited to see how good alex makes him
Though.
and why the dig at ando, you are one of those idiots who just can't appreciate true talent and wants everyone to believe you have superior judgement than the rest of us. Ando is a gifted footballer who needs a bit of luck with his injuries thats all, it's really a shame the way some united funs just attack him.
No dig intended at Anderson... I like anderson a lot. I like Evans a lot. I think Evans first touch is better than our best cm.
well your opinion then, i know you are wrong though.
