Liverpool v Man Utd - fight for mediocrity

Probably just me as I see people labelling him the next Macheda but I think Rashford is a real talent.

posted on 18/3/16

I don't know how good Rashford is or isn't but I think he has the right attitude and is living a dream wearing a United shirt. Macheda was arrogant and had a stinking attitude. We'll never know how good he could have been but it's his own fault and I have no sympathy for him

Well be Ok.
We have a world class manager, who will have a lot of money to spend to bring in his own players, whilst the ones hes inherited seem to be getting the message also.
In a season were Leicester City are on the verge of winning the premier league, I would suggest singling out anyone for mediocrity, is a little silly.
Chelsea wont be in the Champions league next season, neither will United, and maybe even Man City.
So who is it exactly, who hasn't got massive amounts of work to do ?

With the sugar daddy clubs like City, Chelsea, PSG, the Spanish teams cheating the system and getting bank bailouts like Real and Barca and the rise of the Chinese clubs offering silly money, the only future is the youth setups to bring on and BUILD a team rather than buy one.

So much nonsense in this paragraph its hard to know where to begin.

We can compete with any club transfer wise, we just havent bought correctly.

One things for sure, we need man utd back.

This year has been fantastic but with chelsea, liverpool and even more so Man utd being so poor, the PL doesnt hold the same pull, if this carries on for years we will keep failing in europe. I have loved the league this year but if chelsea and utd are both out of europe we have no real chance of winning anything in europe and the english league will go the way of the portugeuse or something bar having the best advertised league.

So much nonsense in this paragraph its hard to know where to begin. If a top player is available and united go for him and Real Madrid go for him 99.99% of the time the player goes to Real Madrid. United have overpaid in the "2nd tier" of the transfer market.

Luckily then each team can only have 25 players and there are plenty players that madrid dont want that would improve us.

In terms of fee's, wages etc were as good as any.

Im sure when mourinhho comes he will be able to attract the majority of players he wants.

Its how this sport works Clubs cannot and never have fully dominated forever. All clubs get there chance and have there spells of domination. The world of football is and will always be changing so i believe no one club will dominate as long as Man U or Liverpool have in the past.

Have to wait and see on that. He could have a list of targets but United end up scratching around and overpaying for the 2nd or 3rd choice alternatives....

The fight for mediocrity seems a bit of a strange title to this article anyway. You have one club in a rich vein of form, winning regularly and where every player knows exactly what their progressive manager wants of them.

Then you have United and LVG, who is stealing a living

it is an uncomfortable fact, but i saw a PL table since boxing day recently, and if they win their game in hand liverpool would be 2nd, behind only spurs. in addition to reaching the carling cup final, and obviously now progressing in the europa.

whereas lvg, in both europa and fa cup, seems set to be knocked out by the first decent team he faces. again.

was good to see klopp ranting and raving yesterday on the touchline, much more inspirational then turning and seeing that potatoe on the bench

2 weeks ago we were in the most promising position in the last 30 years, with unbelievable young talent coming through the academy, beating Midhbiwgbajfand and Arsenal, now we are in arguably the worst position in the last 30 years. The academy players have failed to develop in the 2 weeks and have arguably gone backwards. We need to be looking more long term. If we don't beat City the club is in ruins. Sneak a late winner and this is the best United side in the last 40-80 years, for me.

For all that Liverpool are still 8th in a very poor standard premier league which could be won by Leicester who have one class right winger and a very fit "engine room" but that's about it....

Don Draper's dandruff

I appreciate your name a lot more now Ive started watching mad men. only five episodes in but its fantastic so far

Not arguing that. But they are moving in the right direction and seem to have a belief in the tactics that are being consistently applied and generating results. Then there's us, and LVG. We missed a trick by not playing Carrick at CB yesterday

ha, i thought it was a great show, one of my all-time favourites...it's tough to promote it to some people, because often not all that much happens, but it is beautifully written, acted, and filmed.

i envy you having another 6 1/2 seasons to watch for the first time.

Yeah can see what you mean about it being hard to promote.

I love american stuff from that time period so its right up my street.

Just had the episode with his brother, looking forward to finding out why he changed his name and stuff

if you're 5 episodes in then i remember that the final 5 minutes of episode 6 was when i first really fell in love with the show...enjoy yourself, got to be more fun than the final death throes of LVG's brand of football.

I agree with the OP up to a point, both Liverpool and Utd are pale shadows of what they used to be in terms of European competition. There have just been too many poor decisions taken by the respective managers.

Moyes inherited a team that was on its last legs but a few decent signings would have made all the difference.

Rodgers came in just after we had come away with some silverware and after shed loads of money spent ended up no further forward than when he arrived.

Basically it's just crap managers that have no idea how to handle the expectations of both clubs.

Liverpool have taken a step in the right direction with Klopp but the transfer committee method is still going to hold us back IMO.

Man Utd just need to dispense with LVG and bring in a manager who will embrace the kind of football the fans want to see. They could do a lot worse than Ranieri.

It was only a few years ago that the front three for United was Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez. Now its Rashford, Lingard and Martial

It was only a few years ago that the midfield three of Liverpool was Alonso, Gerrard and Mascherano. Now its Henderson, Milner and Lallana.

It's nearly 10 years ago now. People talk like we were dominating the PL and Europe yesterday,

You had 4 shots on target across 2 games.

We had 15.

I think it's pretty clear where the mediocrity lies.
