Tennis.

If it's a fact then why is there an issue with saying it? If someone said on average men were taller than women would that be deemed as sexist too?

Djokovic will be hung out to dry by the feminazi liberal bbc sympathisers for these comments. A public apology will no doubt be forced out of him soon despite being 100% correct.

Why is Serena not campaigning to play 5 sets. Hmm i wonder if its because she can earn more money at a grand slam as 3 sets gives her time to play doubles two unlike the top men

I was talking to my wife about this earlier. The pay should reflect the money that is generated through that competition. Mens tennis should be based on what mens tennis earns and womens tennis on what womens tennis earns.

It is only when they are treated in exactly the same way that we will have true equality and subsidising the womens game with money generated by the mens game is not equality imo.

Serena had almost twice as many TV viewers In the US for the US open than Djokovic

posted on 21/3/16

In the US.

Serena's American.

Murray has by far the most viewers in UK

Men still get far more viewers in general, as do all men's finals.

It's just better quality

Pretty crazy that they get paid the same at the moment to be honest.

She probably had twice as many viewers as every other woman's match combined, too. The only relevant woman's competitor in tennis these days.

Make women's tennis matches the same length as men's and then there can be no debate.

The physical demands on men playing a minimum of 3 sets would mean additional fitness and conditioning training. If they're hiring personal trainers who charge by the hour then the men are paying out more for these services by default.

Yes men play more sets than women.

You can equate this to any job or industry really, how on earth would it be justifiable to have two colleagues doing the exact same job for the same salary, but one of them gets to knock off work an hour or two on a daily basis? I'd be fuming in that situation regardless if it were a man, woman, man in drag, women born as a boy or transgender with the advantage.

She's meeting her targets quicker though

posted on 21/3/16

No she's not, because her target is less. For example his target is to rent out 3 properties per week and she has to do 2 to achieve their targets (used that ratio as men tennis players need to win 3x6 games as opposed to 2x6).

If her target is less then the job isn't the same. Therefore she shouldn't get the same pay.

Yeah but he could eff up twice and still be in a job, she doesn't have that luxury so deserves at least the same

Let's be honest, Serena is basically a man anyway

posted on 21/3/16

Worth pointing out that men only play 5 sets in Grand Slams, and not on all tournaments on the tour.

In tournaments where both play best of 3 sets, then I don't see why prize money shouldn't be equal, i.e. the money for simply reaching a certain round of the competition. The fact men's tennis is more popular will provide the players with economic reward through sponsorships, endorsements and other 3rd party dealings.

He's correct. If women want equal pay they should do the same job

Wasnt Ronda Rousey the highest paid UFC fighter at one point because she actually brought in the most viewers?

It can be done in the right circumstances

He's spot on. I'm actually so glad that the best tennis player in the world has come out with this. This needed to be said. As stated in the OP, it is simple economics, the principle of supply and demand.

I have more to say about 'equality' in sports, but I'm not even going to go there.

posted on 22/3/16

I can see both ends of the argument.

Really the men should get more as they generate far more money but it's certainly not like those at the top of mens tennis go hungry. In fact they earn excellent money.

I'd rather women and men were all encouraged to get into sport and equal pay will go some way to helping that.

If women's football paid better and had better coverage more women would play and we'd therefore we'd have more fit women who are into football. It's win win
