For me the time for Wenger to go was when the new money became available.
A few at the time argued Wenger deserved the chance to benefit from the increase of cash, but my thoughts were he had lost touch a bit. Sadly I think I have been proved right.
For me Wenger has had 3 periods:
97-06 - The success years. Don't think anyone could have dreamt of a better period for us, even though we now lament at not winning more.
06-13 - The Stadium move years. I think he did well to get us through and meeting his objectives - which were to remain top 4. However there were disappointments, we should have remained successful in the cups I think.
13-now - This is where he has failed, imo. Yes, we have 2 FA Cup wins, which were welcome after the drought. But imo he has failed to build the squad properly, stumbling into a formation that works but not having the back ups to keep it working. His tactics have been found to be outdated, and he hasn't really stepped up from the frugal manager who steadied us through tough times.
In my opinion, as a club we were unlucky with the timing of the stadium move. Chelsea suddenly became rich, making it a three horse race in which we quickly became the third favourite.
The world suffered a financial crisis that affected us negatively - selling those flats for example.
Then City came along, meaning there were three teams we couldn't compete with financially.
These are mitigating factors against Wenger, however they no longer really stand true. The sponsorship deal renegotiation and the Ozil signing started the change that should see us performing far better now.
AW changed English football.
When he arrived he introduced new dietary habits, groundbreaking training methods, and a style of football unseen in England. He also paved the way for other foreign coaches. Prior to his appointment, and subsequent success, most clubs were reluctant to bring in foreign coaches, citing a lack of understanding of the English game.
The Emirates move, and subsequent financial restraints, (from a PR perspective) was handled badly. However I can see why the club did not (publically) acknowledge the restraints imposed on AW. As acknowledged by AW, this was his most challenging but rewarding period.
To present day, I think there are strong arguments for his removal, and I also accept many of the views for him to remain. However given the fan divisions now appear to be adversely affecting the team, I am more persuaded that it’s time for him to move on.
In regard to his legacy it will probably only be appreciated long after he has gone. And many of the criticisms levelled against him will hopefully be understood.

Agree with all of that. Except unlike you I did think he would really push on after spending proper money, sadly not though.
There are only two scenarios where I'd want him to stay:
1. He wins the league this season
2. He addresses our weaknesses before the season is finished by having 3 top players lined up already (NEVER going to happen)
@What would Stuart Pearce do?
I think the fan divisions are now creating an environment that makes it difficult for us to perform. The tension at home games, the lack of support, some fans waiting for defeat so they can boo. Even united fans after having gone through worse the last 3 seasons dont go to that extent.
The fights in the stands point to a clear divide as some fans clearly see no place in our club for some of the banners.
I personally don't understand why he has to be the victim of abuse. His targets and his mandate is set by the club owners and he continues to meet them.
As such he has every right to feel he is owed more respect. The disconnect between Wenger and the fans is what has found us in the situation we find ourselves.
Its amazing that we are still mathematically in a title race that could just go the distance if Leicester drop points but the atmosphere around the club is like we are in mid table trying to stave off relegation
Wenger should have been forced out after he sold the rapist to utd I will never forgive him for that that was cowardly.

I suppose you could argue whether Arsene was REALLY a visionary when he arrived ... OR did he just SEEM to be, relative to the rest of British football at the time, which was still in the dark ages? Was he really that revolutionary compared to other International coaches at the time?
If he was a visionary would he not have kept ahead of the curve, as the game in this country became more sophisticated in its coaching methods etc.?
Just a question. Was a huge fan of Wenger in his first 10 years in this country.
-------------------------------------------
Its also important to remenber that Wengers appointment was not met with fanfare like klopp at Liverpool or LVG at united. He was doubted from his first day and has been doubted eversince 2005.
He is used to working against the grain. He was revolutionary, you can bet your bottom dollar about that.
By the way can I just say that during the week SLM put up an article about world class managers and can we just confirm that if Ranieri win the PL thi season his achievement will be bigger than anything Fergie, Mourinho, Wenger have ever done.
His game amangement and tactical changes are something out of a fantasy book. Its easy to forget the come back wins Leicester had in the first half of the season.

The poisonous atmosphere is partly due to an air of inevitability about what's going to go wrong and when. Honestly an Arsenal season is a bit like the same two records playing over and over, every year you hope things will be different this time round but they never are. I think many people blame Wenger for this, as he is the only constant in all the "bottle jobs". I think more and more fans are losing their patience by the year.
On paper the title may still seem winnable but even if we clawed it back and only had to beat Villa in the last game to win it I'd still expect us to somehow ruin it. I think the team needs to prove they have the bottle.

However, football is evolving all the time, and I think it's possible that once great managers can quickly fall behind the times as the environment around them changes (Capello is arguably another example of this).
Wanting him out isn't a slight on his legacy; it's just the belief that he isn't the man to take the club forward.
Football has changed a lot in the last 2 decades, and he hasn't changed with it, IMO, and I fear the longer he stays, the more he will damage his legacy.

Wenger is a legend it'd be a heat of the moment situation for me to believe otherwise. I'm in my early 20s and was fortunate to witness our fine period in the early parts of the 21st century.
Although I was alive I wasn't able to witness our 90s period with the analytical eye I'm able to use now, I'll admit although I do my research I understand it's not the same as properly living through it.
Anyway I have seen more than enough to acknowledge what Wenger has done and to also pass judgement on whether he should continue or not.
Even in the successful periods I'd be perplexed as to how we'd mess up wonderful opportunities. No doubt the Invincibles era still bottled massive opportunities (CL vs Chelsea, 02-03 PL etc..)
The team was a lot stronger mentally though so bouncing back was easier but one thing I'm certain of is Wenger was never a great tactician and it explains his lack of European success.
Wenger's greatest strength was squad building.
He was able to build teams that were simply superior to everyone in the league and credit where it's due, he did that whilst spending very little but as time has progressed a lot of opponents are able to match the bigger teams a lot more quality wise.
This means that Wenger is being exposed for the poor tactician he is. He only has 1 way of playing and even in his pressers he always states how our focus is on our own performance and trying to play our game.
The Invincibles had everything from power, pace & strength therefore we could play our game to perfection and never lose. To have so many tall dominating players on the small pitch that was Highbury was almost unfair we were that good.
All different now.
What can Wenger do to convince me he can stay? Nothing.
He has shown major flaws this season and I hope we win the league to give him a great send off rather than believing it'd prove much, the teams currently challenging are way below us.
If he wins the league there's no chance he'll better the accomplishment as he could never retain the title back then never mind next year (with all the managers incoming) nor will he ever win a CL.
This season truly is his best hope of leaving in a good way but I believe it should be his last if I'm honest, he has lost it I'm afraid

He can't be blamed for feeling this way. Wenger doesn't treat the supporters with respect (there are still many that back him relentlessly).
He lies to us, insults our intelligence on a yearly basis, going as far as to ask whether we've managed a game in our lives and now he's taken it further by blaming us for our current state.
He had a massive opportunity during the summer window and he arrogantly blew it, he was doomed from that moment especially when Welbeck's injury was confirmed.
The lying is the most irritating part tbh from season targets to inaccurate injury reports. A supporter who has grown to loathe the man can be excused tbh.
He's far too comfortable and doesn't put pressure on himself to overachieve. We've missed out on some top coaches just for him to remain comfortable and float around 3rd/4th place whilst not progressing in Europe.
Nothing wrong with that comment and all he doesn't give a toss about us.

This season truly is his best hope of leaving in a good way but I believe it should be his last if I'm honest, he has lost it I'm afraid

"I Hate Wenger" - this is embarrassing, yeah you can think it's time for him to move on but saying that you hate the guy is disrespectful, the guy for all his current faults doesn't deserve to be hated. I'm sorry but you come across as like a Real Madrid fan , expecting the biggest trophies year in year out regardless of the situation.
