Claudio Ranieri

While it would be a great managerial achievement if/when it happens it certainly doesn't propel Ranieri into the greatest PL manager.

Nobody can undermine what SAF, Wenger, Mourinho et al have achieved. Ranieri would be looked on as a miracle worker in a short space of time but NOT an al time great YET!!!!!
You never know what the next 2-3 seasons hold.

What Mr. Dazzler said. Greatest single achievement if we do win it, but I couldn't put him ahead of Ferguson, Mourinho or Wenger.

Incidentally, these are crazy times we're living in when Forest fans are telling us they hope we do it.
And I don't just mean the OP, I know plenty of Forest fans IRL as well who are offering their support.

Wenger has consistently failed year after year after year and if he was at any of the clubs Ranieiri managed or even at a club with ambition of winning the title, he would have been sacked years ago.

Mourinho couldnt do what Ranieri has and it was actually Ranieri that built the team Mourinho first won the title with.

If you think either Mourinho or Wenger could have won the league with a team like ours then fair enough, I will disagree with you but at least then I could understand your justification.

Ranieri has taken teams to the brink of titles where he had no right to and that simply cannot be said for Mourinho's Chelsea or Wenger's Arsenal side that won the league.

I know Tommy will mention Roma as a team that were in a position to win it but I don't think they wwre as good as Inter.

Agreed with Arro that most of ranieris title bids were with teams that weren't expected to win with the exception of inter where he didn't do very well.

Arro - I think Mourinho could, but Wenger couldn't. Wenger's strength lay in a different place though - don't forget the Invincibles and the fact that he and Fereguson defined Premier League football for a generation. He's looking past it now unfortunately but he's been great for Arsenal with much lower resources than his rivals and a great legacy. Just like O'Neill at Villa, they may find that they miss him when he's gone.

beat the big boys on a much lower budget....so to say he wldnt be able to do it is off the mark.

OP, if we broadened the scope to all-time top flight using your same metrics - i.e. being a good manager whilst not being a nob most of the time - would Cloughie make your top 50 best managers ever?

So many on here, seem to be fixated with greatness in terms of just success and hounrs won - to me - the term greatness is a much deeper quality

Fergie, is no doubt the most successful manager in PL history
What Wenger did going a whole season unbeaten, will probably never be repeated again

However, I'm talking about the complete package - not just honours won....I'm talking about character, honesty, integrity, humility, likability - all those qualities, that Wenger and Fergie never possessed

Ranieri has all of that, plus what is unfolding before our very eyes with him taking an unfashionable group of relegation fodder and turning them into the BEST in the Country - is not just the greatest achievement in PL history, but it does IMO propel him into the realms of greatness, and as a complete package, for me, he's the best I've seen

Anfield ....38 games is NOT af fluke!! Leicester are closer to winning the PL than Liverpool have ever been having spent a fraction of your budget !,
Is that what's making you so angry

ForestBootBoy - I think Greatness is an opinion that's partly based on emotion, so you're always going to get differing answers on it. It's like in Formula 1, Michael Schumacher won more than Ayrton Senna, but I think most people would have Senna down as the greater (quite probably greatest).

I doubt people will be thinking he's the best manager ever if the allegations against Leicester prove to be true.

Yeah ok possibly but still don't think he could do it with our squad. We shall never know if course so it's just opinion 👍

Would you mind addressing the question i asked earlier though?

Where, according to all your criteria, would you place Cloughie in an all-time top flight list?

Difficult but I would say Schumacher and I really didn't like him but saw him drive live so many times and he was brilliant. I only stood at the bend where Senna died 😔

Also winning the Primera Liga with Porto isn't like winning the league with Leicester, it's more like winning it with Spurs and the CL isn't a 38 game tournament.
