I'm going to shamefully come to Ozil's defence here. There are those saying he only gets assists from corners or set pieces. So? Does it matter if they are assisted from corners or open play? And if it's easier to assist from a set piece then why isn't anyone else assisting as much as Ozil from set pieces? Eriksen's set piece delivery would tell me that it's harder than it looks.

Theres no natural order now. Pochatino has a system now, and everyone that's not followed his methods have been "shipped out" Towensend......
Truth be told, the old order is broken, and Spurs have a group of YOUNG players and a YOUNG manager to build something special. That is if Martin Lewis WANTS to keep them all together.

He has been very average in 2016, the other 3 have been consistently brilliant

I'm not saying he should be ahead of the ones picked or behind. I don't have a problem either way.
I do think some of the ways he's being criticised doesn't really make a lot of sense.
has been very average in 2016, the other 3 have been consistently brilliant
------------------------------
If the others have been so much more consistent, then why is it Ozil that leads the league in 3 major stats? Assists, chances created & final 3rd passes.
I love how our own fans slate Ozil when the guy would not only walk into our side but would create an extra 20 goals a season for us. As it happens I agree with him not being in the team of the year but if he was in it I doubt many people would fight it.
The guy is class but he's at the wrong side.
He has been very average in 2016, the other 3 have been consistently brilliant
--------------------------------------
He hasn't really. On the contrary, he has consistently been one of our best players and on average the best as many around him capitulated. The others have had loads of average games as well. Alli has had many. Mahrez has been mediocre for a long time as Leicester kept grinding out 1-0 wins. What people miss is that very often, the narrative of a team in applied to players.
Probably because two of those stats are totaly meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
Liverpool fans used to quote Downings chances created stats when they bought him.

Please, ignore this embarrassing, infantile mug and his cringeworthy stats. He has no self-awareness how silly his Ozil obsession makes him look.
Ozil is an excellent player. He's just a bit of a fairy and a bottler.
Would have him at United in a heartbeat, though. Should have signed him when he was available. Instead we went for Fellaini.
Sheriff, do you still class Alli as a one dimensional workhorse and nothing more?
----------------------------------------
No, I think Darren and I revised our views some time ago. The kid has been impressive. A tad overhyped like all English saviours, but his progress has blown me away.

Because Ozil was in incredible form during the first half of the season, and has less then 5 assists in 2016.
That is the definition of inconsistent.

Final 3rd passes is meaningless
Arsenal's entire midfield has been utter crap since the Cazorla-Coquelin partnership was ruined through injury.
Broke my heart watching Ozil come so deep to retrieve the ball because Ramsey was so far forward and Flamini is utter crap on the ball.
It also didn't help our only player capable of taking a half chance (Sanchez) has been off form (and of course, injured) this season.
It's bull, I was loving that Dele Jenas name as well.

This is fair, he has been great but not as good as Dembele for us
No idea what Robb is on about. We had a very good debate on our board today. A lot of our fans would have had no issue if Ozil was in the team. Most like me thought he missed out because his form dropped around February.
Robb wasn't involved. He never is when we talk football.
De Bruyne is a better player then Ozil anyway, I think the only reason he isn't in TOTS is the injury he got, which was the reason City's form dipped
It's bull, I was loving that Dele Jenas name as well.
-----------------------------------------------
I remember always drawing that comparison too.
I think it was his goal against Palace or so that finally shut me up. He has fantastic instincts. His technique needs loads of polishing but his football brain is good.

Whether it's his own performances that have diminished or the inability of others to put the chances away, I think we all realise there's been a marked decrease on Ozil's productivity in the last 3-4 months.
When it came to voting time he wasn't shining, that simple. Footballers are generally simple too it seems, and they struggle to cast their minds back too far.
