No surprise its a bit quiet

Doubt many people will see this on the Maidenhead United board

You may or may not be aware but the British Broadcasting Corporation is a pretty substantial worldwide broadcaster. As such they have many media channels and streams to direct 'traffic' to a sporting forum...

Alright lads. It was a simple question. Are there any similar sites to JA606?

posted on 2/9/11

None as good as this one, best thing is that it feels same.

There are a few alternatives, all you have to do is search using Google and voila!

Example:

not 606

I believe there were 33 different sites which were looking to get a share of the BBC 606 traffic. There is probably only one other forum which has a similar degree of traction and most users are aware of the forum. Some may use one or both forums and we of course welcome people to discover and try other sites.

One thing I remember about the old 606 is the WUMs, which drove away the serious posters. Now that sites like JA606 have addressed the problem there are serious discussions and less disruptions.

More serious posters this site attracts, the better IMO.

I would not say we are out of the WUMworks yet. But we put reasonable effort in to keep a degree of reasonable discussion on the site. Unlike the BBC 606, we have introduced the WUM filter, the 1-match ban for threads, and a barrier to restrict the worst offenders from commenting on certain boards. There is a degree of freedom which is lost with any kind of restriction but in the interests of the site action was required, without such features more members would probably end up banned.

You have abused a tool that was meant to help this forum for debate, not hinder it

100% WUM free is impossible to achieve I suppose, however, what you have done with sensible moderation, filtering system seems to have struck a balance.

A suggestion if I may Admin, could you place a time limit on the WUM filter i.e. 4 week filter (currently in place), once that time elapses the filtration auto expires and the user cannot filter the same poster for the next 4 weeks. We have a particular poster, who has quite possibly filtered 50% of users, if not more. No one is nasty towards him or her but his or her justification for applying the filter is based on not agreeing with one's argument. That is no justification.

So IMHO the WUM filter, although a great feature, is open to abuse in its current form.

Would adding an auto expiration feature not be possible ?

Mr Admin1 type person,

Can you filter Captain Muppet from any more, "inside news" about United transfers?

That way people won't get to hear his drivel, ergo not so many people will abuse him, ergo he won't feel the need to filter everyone, ergo the world will be a better place.

Simples.......

That is not really what we want. If a user filters all and sundry such that you can't comment, the best coarse of action is to reciprocate with the filter such that they are erased from your site experience. There is no perfect solution to such problems.

Would you just be able to filter the keywords,

Something like.

Wesley
Sneijder
Going
To
United
Captain
Positivity

That would work, me thinks

And everytime its flagged up, a great big fist comes out of the Captains screen to send him back on the right track.

Good idea?
