30 years ago (the last time I was there) it was a typical down on its heels dying on its ass shabby run down half closed British seaside town.

I assume it has gone downhill since, have a good day though

Whats Margate like? gotta go down next week and meet up with a new "potential" supplier

Margate is undergoing a resurgence!

The "old town" is a great part of the place. Lots of good micro-pubs. 3 alone on the harbour arm if I remember. The harbour is very close to the Turner Gallery.

Good piece in the New York Times about the area generally. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/29/travel/the-art-crowd-returns-to-kent-england.html?_r=0

Great so instead of being a "typical down on its heels dying on its ass shabby run down half closed British seaside town" it is now a "typical down on its heels dying on its ass shabby run down half closed British seaside town being enjoyed ironically by a bunch of hipster modern art lovers". Sounds like something from the Grim Up North London strip in the Eye.

Did the terrifying old wooden rollercoaster re-open Bute?

They preserved most of it, and I believe it's reopened. There was an arson attack, which funnily enough coincided with a property developer wanting to acquire the land.

I used to work on may of the rides in the old Dreamland, as a student. Happy days!

Two more hours and you can be in new York and visit Coney island and the flight won't cost much more than the ten hours of petty needed for Margate.
