We have spent £250m in the last 4 years.
We have already signed Xhaka - and more will follow.
Wenger's lack of ambition was cruelly exposed 2 years ago when you tried to sign Suarez for that ridiculous sum.
250?!?! On who? And how much of that was recouped in sales? Come on DJ, I know you love the boss but surely even you must see that he needs to change significantly (night high impossible) or he needs to go.
As for Xhaka...Media chatter. If I believed everything I read, well...just today I'd be thinking we are getting Mahrez and Kante and I'd be driving Walcott over to the Olympic Stadium!!

100m.
Alexis, Ozil, Welbeck, Chambers, Ospina, Cech, Gabriel, Podolski, Giroud, Cazorla, Monreal, Debuchy and Elneny.

A quick Google search brought me to transferleague.co.uk. In the past 5 years, our net spend is 104m. Which equals to 20m a year!!! Total expenditure was indeed 258m, but we sold 154m worth of players at the same time. So you cannot tell me we are investing heavily in the team. The only reason that our net spend is 104m, is that we don't have players to sell who would fetch a lot and are wanted by other club/want to leave. And it's inflated by the fact that we also spent 77 on Ozil and Sanchez. So reality is that we have got a world class AM and wingers and spent 30 mill over 5 years to try strengthen the other positions that obviously need upgrades.

But are we accepting that? We missed out on Suarez because we showed pure disrespect by bidding a penny over his release clause. And if we were so sure about the release clause, why did we not pursue Pools breach of contract in court?
5 years takes you back beyond the re-negotiated sponsorship deals and clouds the figures - hence why I said 4 years
When you buy players you generally sell players as well - the squad rules make that neccessary (although it is pretty basic knowledge anyway).
We have a lot of players who would get decent money, we could easily sell and make a profit and still have a big gross spend.
And if we were so sure about the release clause, why did we not pursue Pools breach of contract in court?
======
Because the contract between Suarez and Liverpool is nothing to do with us. We cannot sue over a contract that has nothing to do with us.
John Henry has publically, and loudly, said the clause was there - there is absolutely no doubt about the fact there was a clause that we triggered, and Liverpool ignored.
that's just how it is, if we go for the same players as Bayern, Real or Madrid then 9 times out of 10 we'll lose out. They're bigger clubs than us and always have been

Other than the British core who potentially could fetch a pretty sum due to the homegrown rules, only Ozil and Sanchez would command a decent fee. We can't sell the British players as we'd fall foul of the home grown rule. Take that rule out and who would pay more than 20 mill for any of them? None can play more than 5 months a season (being generous there I think) and quality wise, they really are nothing special. Ox, Ramsey, theo...all crocks and even when fit, not very productive most games. Wilshere...still making a career of hype out of one good season a few years ago. Chambers...I think he could make a good cb. Gibbs is decent...but can't string 5 games together.

But each season you are only looking at around 10 players. Lots of options out there.
I think players generally decide what league they are going to before they even decide on the club, would have thought it unusual for a player to be open to a move anywhere, always a preference.
Really we just need to make ourselves more attractive than the Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Liverpool.

I truly get that...but even they can only get so many players. You have quality in teams like Athletico, Dortmund, Lyon etc and even in the PL...but we don't seem to be proactive at all to make strong approaches for them.
We've bought a lot of players in the last 3 or 4 years, the bigger problem is that we haven't seen enough improvement from it! The players are out there like you both said, but we put too much faith in some of the ones we got that aren't good enough. We need a mini clear out this summer

Would imagine the likes of Boateng, Tasci, Rode, Ribery, Benatia, Bernat will be most likely to go - and don't really fancy any of those.
Just identify the 3 or 4 you want and move heaven and earth to get them... show some intent FFS
