Little point playing Drinkwater in the left of midfield though, it's not his position even if Woy played him there.
I honestly expect more of the same for the Euro's, same old England with eh same old type of Manager.
It's a narrow diamond - that means LCM, not LM. No different to where he plays for Leicester, central midfield. The width comes from the full backs.
Rose reminded me of RDL yesterday and still got MOM from Hoddle.
Some interesting reading,
Dung as always, unfortunately I don't know half the players well enough to comment on them,
But players that have missed half a season with injury or bad form shouldn't be near a squad unless there Messi or similar elj,,
I m thinking a 45/60 minute substitutions and bringing on milner and drinkwater drop Rooney to the Base of diamond,,
We don't have s defensive partnership or a defence really to play possession football,,
Keane / Vardy up as a two,
Interchange milner, Rooney, Ali, drinkwater
all hands on deck, let slip the dogs of war mentality,,,,

Could it be that the side to start at the Euro's is this one:
Hart
Walker, Smalling, Cahill, Rose
Dier
Rooney, ????
Alli
Kane, Vardy
From reading the posts above I think that most people would be happy with that team. There is just some debate on the ???? position. Henderson, Milner, Barkley, Drinkwater or even Wilshere.
If you'd asked me 3 months ago I'd have agreed totally with Blackstarr that Milner is just a workhorse. He certainly isn't my favourite player.
However, Milner finished the season very well with Liverpool and there is probably enough room for one workhorse in the team. He can also play in a number of positions so gives the flexibility to revert to plan B if all else fails.
Of the others: Barclay I wouldn't trust as he's a bit hit and miss. We also have Alli and Rooney for creativity. Wilshere has not done enough this season to justify his form. Henderson is a maybe as you do know what you get from him.
Hmmm ..... If we started with that 10 I'd be fairly happy and would be open to suggestions on position ????? as I think one or two could make a case over the next couple of games.
Agree entirely Joby. Milner or Drinkwater for me in that central position - although I think Milner's upturn in form coincided with him being played out wide again, so maybe not.
That, coupled with the Vardy link, was why I opted for Drinkwater.
I'd have Dier and Drinkwater in front of the back 4 when we get to the latter stages, but I honestly don't believe we'd need to be as defensive as that for the group stages.

I'm not getting the Dier love in, when CBs are looking for a ball out of defence he doesn't appear available to pick it up. Also prefer Clyne over Walker, appears a bit stronger defensively. If Kane plays a bit deeper so it's a 4231 or 4411
-----------Hart------------
Clyne---Smalling---Cahill---Rose
----------Rooney----Drinkwater-----
---Sterling/Rashford----Kane----Alli
----------------Vardy-----
The diamond is certainly looking the best bet. Kane and Vardy are different enough to make a good partnership.
Alli has to be a shoe-in behind them really. I don't think anyone is close to pinching that position.
Dier at the base. Given a bit more help (more of that later) I think he can bolster the shaky centre backs.
Hart picks himself, and I would still go with Stones and Cahill myself. Not convinced by Smalling at all.

?.............Cahill.......Stones..........?

The last four positions then.....
Who plays the other midfield positions depends on who plays the two other midfield positions for me, or vice-versa
Call me biased, but I think Rose and Walker should start. Both fit, high energy fullbacks. If that is the case, I feel two proper midfielders should play. Probably Drinkwater and Henderson/Milner. When the fullbacks go, Dier can drop in and they can squeeze in centrally. It tightens us up defensively (CB being our weakest position for me by some distance)
Rose
Walker
Drinkwater
Henderson/Milner
If we go with Bertrand and Clyne, then i think we would probably need a bit more adventure in the midfield positions. Probably Wilshere/Lallana and Rooney/Barkley.
Bertrand
Clyne
Wilshere/Lallana
Rooney/Barkley
Yep, I'm with the masses here. Diamond as suggested.
I actually though Rose looked impressive against Germany and for Spurs and could do a decent job in that role.
However, neither Rose not Walker convince defensively so we have to make it the Kevin Keegan school of an attempt to win the Euro's.

England wouldn't even touch the ball playing a diamond against any quality side that can keep the ball (so everyone)
Why would that be? If anything it leaves you vulnerable wide, certainly not short of players centrally
