Di Matteo will be a mistake ...

Leicester won the league, ergo they were the best team in England by some distance.

Last year Pearson took the almost identical squad to the brink of relegation. If you switched the two seasons around then Pearson would have looked like a disaster. I think he is a terrible manager.

Di Matteo on the other hand is a Champions League winning manager, and far superior to Pearson.

Although, I do agree that he is the wrong type of manager for Villa in the situation you guys are in.

You need more of a Mick McCarthy type manager.

Imagine picking little old us over O such big Villa.

Bodes well, good luck with him, no championship experience, will have to learn the hard way it seems.

They like their numbers in China, 2 will be along soon.

Mick, he still kept them up, hard to argue with that, if anything that shows a change of tact that he is capable off.

Not my first choice but for my club might be the best choice for the league we are in.

Proven here.

Fair enough Igor, I just don't get the love for Pearson.

No love bro, it's a results business.

OK, we don't KNOW how any manager would do. Moyes, Pearson, Di Matteo are all possible good choices. But we could appoint any one of them, and it might misfire. I think what we can say is that all three are probably capable of stopping the rot and getting us moving forwards, but possibly not enough and not quick enough for promotion.

Moyes doesn't want us, apparently, so he's out. Pearson has one big problem; he comes with baggage. In particular, the probable reason why Leicester sacked him, namely the racist video of his son. That may well make Xia reluctant to appoint him. And the rest of the baggage; as many people don't want him as do. He's not out of the race yet, but it looks that way.

That leaves Di Matteo (and possibly one or two others we don't know about).

Strikes me Di Matteo can walk into a club and have an effect. He deserves credit for the Champions League win; he succeeded where others failed. He likes attacking football which is nice. I don't know if he can do well enough with us, but the same applies to the others. I think we'll be far from being a disaster, even if we don't get promoted, and that matters a lot at the moment. If he fails, we can get somebody else, hopefully with the club in a much better state than it is at the moment. If he comes I think it's a good, realistic, appointment. Let's see what he does.

So the racist video of Pearsons son excludes him.

Wow, why is that relative to him as a person.

Im even alert enough to know that the ostrich comment and the strangulation of Mayler may have being closer to the truth.

You've a lot to learn about this league and don't be expecting to be getting out in the first season, you or the barcodes, clubs will be gunning for you and will succeed.

Di Matteo was a classy player who got lucky managing Chelsea in a position of managerial turmoil...don't get carried away...in saying that this might just be the making of him

Or Wenger in almost 20 years...still...at least the books are balanced

As Igor said, it's about results. And that is what should count. Not personality.

Pearson built the team spirit in Leicester and built most of the squad. He also took them on that amazing unbeaten run and even (AFAIK) got them promoted twice.

If I was at Villa, he would be my choice. Cranky or not.

Di Matteo - even if he comes - will be gone by the end of the season with Villa mid-table at best.

By contrast Newcastle will be back in the PL.

Don't forget Di Matteo also got Chelsea to win the FA Cup that same season as the Champions League, AND he has proven Championship credentials - he took over at West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 2009, and Albion won immediate promotion back to the Premier League with 92 points. And now at Villa he's got Steve Clarke helping him.

You need to cut Pearson some slack for being a rookie in the Premier League, and give him some credit for the turnaround in Leicester's fortunes after they were rock bottom at Christmas 2014. After winning League One and the Championship with Leicester, and then guiding them to PL safety, he is clearly not a terrible manager.
And Mick McCarthy is NOT the type of manager Villa need. He was well short of ideas with Wolves in the PL, persisting with a Championship squad and failing to bring in players of the requisite quality, and their relegation was nailed on.
