I agree St Charles, although from what I hear, O'Grady would probably push Madine out when fit, but that's a big if and when at the minute. His best attribute is apparently menacing defenders, which is something we don't have since mellor decided Beres pies were a bit rich for his palette.
I know little about Lowe, I just hope he's a more predatory player, because that's just something I don't think we've properly had since Mclean.
'The money should have gone on securing ALF ages ago before the championship came sniffing.'
Couldn't agree more; Megson's dealings so far fairly unimpressive. Waited until we'd lost 2 games to bring in the required wide player and strikers.
Charlie MacDonald would've been a decent signing for us, if he;'d come up north but I guess we have Lowe now instead. Hope he can do the business tomorrow.

Well to be fair was all Meggo? He handed over the shortlist to MM & PA, they have put in the bids for his desired players and from what I gather we had a hard time as our bids were turned down, which slowed the process for the required Wingers & Strikers. MM has gone about his business the right way if you ask me as he hasnt allowed clubs to hold him to ransom, which you cannot blame him for, esp as the transfer budget has had to be reduced to rebuild our Club, not just the squad.
I think our signing are decent enough for this leauge our prob was mainly the the salary cap without that i think we would have seen players like Kumas & Macdonald at our club. That's why the players we have been linked with have all gone to the championship which won't have the salary cap until next year.
Mega Milan
Sod the shortlist - if the limit of Megon's imagination is 9 players we're stuffed..
Yeah 9 players on his 1st choice list, he obviously didnt get all of them did he so there must have been a back up shortlist too
It does make me laugh on people opinion on what quality player Wednesday can sign, we have already been told the money we did have for players has mostly been spent on making the club run properly also we are 3 tier football club who have struggled so far at this level thus not giving these better players the confidence we will be flying up the leagues anytime soon which would give the minium level they would want to play in.
Don't get me wrong we have a great history but that's the point it's our history not the present & these kind of player only look at the present & thier pocket.

MK Dons, Sheff Utd and Charlton are currently the top 3 in this league. They might not stay there but they haven't spent any more than us. Of course, some players may not want to join us but I don't see why we should be able to blame finances for failure to get up this season.
I'm not saying we won't go up this season i like the signing we have made (other than resigning JOC) & i'm confident we will start putting a winning run together after the player have gel'd a bit.
My point was with the likes of le fondra Reading have paid well over 350K after all the add-ons also if i was le fondra & i was given the choice of us & reading i'd pick reading with prob more money, Championship football & the missus will be well happy living 1hr away from shopping central.
Footballers are not fan it's a job & when it comes to jobs you go where you get paid the most money for the least hours with the best career path.
Mercenries in short!
Not sure what your point is - I know footballers aren't fans..
Of course Le Fondre would choose Reading but if we bid in the summer he's our player I think. As for the free - I heard £350k up front; surely you'd be happy to pay the addons as it'd likely mean he's doing well. Anyway - all in the past now..
I think we did show interest in summer along with other clubs & the Rotherham held on cos they wanted to keep him & le fondra agent heard of the interest & started to unsettle the players saying look who you can play for.
My original point was ther majority of the players we wanted to see play at Wednesday were championship class of player who want championship football with championship wages.
'ther majority of the players we wanted to see play at Wednesday were championship class of player'
Sorry but speak for yourself; I was and am quite happy to try and pick up the best of the players in this division and lower. As long as they're, in the main, young and have a decent pedigree I'm more than happy.
You missed "with championship wages" off my quote?
"Sorry but speak for yourself; I was and am quite happy to try and pick up the best of the players in this division and lower. As long as they're, in the main, young and have a decent pedigree I'm more than happy."
I agree with you on that one but i don't think we are only club showing interest & these other clubs might be a better prospect to us.
sorry it should say "than us"
Who? As far as I'm concerned, by and large we should have the pick of players in this league - especially this season with Southampton and Brighton gone.
Put it another way: if MK Dons go up automatically, how can Megson have any excuses, given their budget and ours?
well if we go by last years table you can pick from 13 teams that finished above us (not including Brighton & southhampton) also wot is this budget you talk of & how much do you think we have & mk don's have?
I'm not being negative like i said before i like the signing we have made & i think we'll go up in the playoffs but some of names that have been thrown about were abit unrealistic.

They probably didn't have to spend more than us as they had a better, although underperforming, crop of players. Our best player was undoubtedly Mellor, and he didn't even belong to us. Luckily Meggo's got rid of most of the dross, but it's not been an easy job bringing in new players with competition from the championship and clubs holding a gun to M.M.'s head! I don't think it's fair to judge Meggo until we see both COG and JJ back in action and see how the 2 new recruits , Lowe and Kasnik fare. As for ALF, there wasn't a cat in hell's chance that Rotherham would have let him come to us when there was a chance of him leaving the yorkshire area! They would probably have lost a host of their supporters to us, being a crowd idol! I honestly don't believe Reading offered anything more than us in that deal!

Unfair to judge Megson at all until the end of the season really so I agree there, just saying I'd have preferred a few different signings and if it does go wrong I don't see any excuses - financial or otherwise.
Debating Le Fondre is a bit pointless and I've bored on probably long enough about him but if we'd offered the cash he'd be our player - Rotherham maybe located close to us but they aren't are rivals and £350k for a player who may go for free us to much to turn down. Their chairman intimated that he'd go for the right price and I believe that's what happened.

Yes, 13 teams finished above us, some of those teams:
Bournemouth
Orient
Exeter
Rochdale
Colchester
Carlisle
Brentford
MK Dons
I don't know what our budget was last season or this season but I'd strongly suggest it's much more than those clubs now and then.
Let's see what happens tonight; Charlton got 1 more point than us last season so were in a similar position but have brought in most of their players in the close season, many on free transfers. Of course, some players, such as Danny Green, just wouldn't join us and other clubs demanded too much money but Charlton brought in a fair few on free transfers: 2 from Bournemouth, 1 from Exeter etc.
I think you have to assume we'd have had a chance of bringing in any of the players who joined League 1 clubs on free transfers so will be interesting to see how our signings line up against Charlton. Doesn't mean the seasons over if we lose but it will be rather annoying if the likes of Morrison and their free transfer signings have good games.
Well maybe that was our down fall we spent too much time on bellends like Mellor & missed the real gems in our league but i'm still confident so confident that we'll win tonight 3-2
Up The Owls!
bellends like Mellor? We'd have been near enough relegated without him last season! Anyway, I do think we have missed the good players in this league but as you say - let's hope we can do it tonight.
