and also Barcelona are sniffing around with Neymar said he would suit there style of play and would be a big hit.

Really do t want to lose him it's becoming far too regular an occurrence where we lose our best players.

No doubt they'll all be in his lughole at the copa America, all the Barca lads that is

I don't think he'll leave this summer. We don't want to sell and he's on a new contract.

Can see him going. Not throwing digs here but how long will a player of his ability be satisfied with regularly not playing CL football let alone no European football?

I agree, he will give another season and then we will go from there and see if we get into CL.

We've no need to sell with the extra revenue this season. He's young and only recently signed a new contract, so his value won't depreciate.

If we sell him him now (presuming there is no release clause), I would be very disappointed with the club.

We will always have to sell our players if we are not in the champions league. I don't blame them either. I would want to be at the best clubs in the world if I was a player

But £20 odd million for Couts when David Luiz was £50m

£60m and they can have him. I trust Klopp to replace him with 2 great players with that money.

I said a while ago that I though he would go in 2017. Could be earlier though I guess.

He said he wants to win trophies. Take a better penalty lad and you might!

he's a pretty inconsistent player and i can't see barca even wanting him

For their bench. No way he is taking the front 3's roles. That leaves Rakitic's role and I read the other day that he played more games for Barca last season than any other player!!

He would become more consistent with better players around him.

I'm not so sure. He may well be better placed than BR when it comes to persuading players to come, but we've already seen with Goetze that it isn't a given.

It'll be easier to persuade players if we can actually hold on to our better players.

I can definitely see him leaving unfortunately but not for 23 million. Double that and it might be a conversation but the amount of money swimming around the EPL at the moment, that wouldn't even be vaguely attractive to us.

I think we might get one more season from him. Partially because I think players will be interested to see what Klopp does in terms of recruitment and with his own players. Partially because he's not consistent enough to attract the really big guns (Barca/RM/Bayern) at the moment and I think we'll probably be able to fend off the second tier for 12 months.

Without CL football in 2017/18 though, think he's gone.

posted on 8/6/16

If Barca are after him then CL football is irrelevant

CL is only relevant if someone like City or Arsenal want him.

think he'll stay another year atleast, but that bid (if true, which i highly doubt it is) is laughable

and back on topic they're smoking Stig's best mean green laced with crack. And rounding it off by snorting powdered bat shiitt

If he doesn't kick up a stink I think he'll stay until next summer.

If we're honest, he isn't consistent enough for a Barca or Madrid. PSG perhaps.

Interesting point, the consensus seems to be that an opening offer of £23m is literally laughable, but I'm not quite sure what people think he should be going for.

He might be a £30m player, maybe a £40m one, £45m at a stretch, but £23m as an initial bid - which presumably can go higher - isn't that fantastical.

When you look at United signing a 22 year old defender with one year in La Liga for 30m, then Coutinho, who would have no issues with settling into French football, has got to be worth far more....

ha, i would never use united's legendary ability to overpay as a yardstick for anything!

one potentially interesting comparison is firmino, who was more prolific (both in germany and for brazil), only 6 months older, and has had a better season in the PL (despite it being his first in england), and only cost you a maximum of £29m.

in the end it is up to the buying/selling club and the player to agree, and i see no reason for liverpool to accept £23m, but i struggle to see that anyone is going to pay too far north of £40m for him.

question: if you sold coutinho for £40m, and got mane for (say) £25m, would you be happy?

posted on 8/6/16

£23m does seem low when you look at what clubs have paid for average players recently
Mangala
Lallana
Herrera
Bony

To name but a few
