I would have expected pessimism from a Liverpool fan given your experience with Hodgson.

I think we'll top the group and get a fairly comfortable QF fixture. Then we're in the semis. It's probably less imaginable that we'll go out of the group stages than reach the semis.

We have to play a round of 16 game before so will meet a good team in the quarters. Round of 16 game might not be easy either if some of the big teams only scrape out their group.

Had a look myself it's all very confusing, obviously if you top the group you play one of the strongest third placed teams, the most likeliest for us would be Ukraine.... But even that scenario has so many ifs and buts it's not worth thinking about until it happens.

Some runners up are playing runners up!

Group winners play the best third place teams although only 4 third place teams from 6 groups can qualify so the worst 2 group winners will probably be playing the worst 2 runner ups. It's probably all ranked by points gained. The rest of the runner ups will be playing each other.

I think it works something like that anyway.

Or just have 4 groups of 6 and have each team play 5 games each with the winners of each group going to SF stage. The finalists would still only be playing 7 games in total.

Tbh I looked at the thing and just assumed it was the old A winner vs B runner up, B winner vs A runner up ect.

Lot more variety in how this could go down.

I think we'll win the first knockout but then probably lose a close game in the quarters which would satisfy me as that's my expectations. Any less we've underperformed any more and we've done well.

Or one group of 24, and the winner and 15 runners up go through.

Doubt it, quarters at the most I reckon.

winner goes thru to final and other 15 go to 3 grps of 5 and winners then play 2 semif finals to see who play winner of first grp

Or just have all the runners up fall off into a separate competition called the Europa Championships 2016.
