Fantastic news

We have more than enough funds to compete for top players, lets start by putting in a serious and public bid for Aubameyang.

good stuff, surprised Wenger went for him but could have been good return on 20 million is he gave you 3 seasons banging in the goals at top level.

Terrible news for Arsenal

The alternative to Vardy is almost certainly no one. Or possibly an unproven player no one has heard of

It's time for the club to start identifying targets and paying the required rate to force a transfer.

Stop the waiting to be offered players at a cut price and work out an actual plan forward.

A bullet dodged...I can't fathom how stupid Wenger is for attempting to sing this over the hill one season wonder.

If true this has got to be hugely embarrassing for Arsenal. Whether you wanted him or not, the fact that a Leicester City player isn't convinced on joining your club is a sign of what's happened to you in the last couple of years

Make no mistake if it was Man City he would have gone by now.....amazing

So what we need better than him.

That's fine by me mate it got nothing to do with arsenal it's to do with the fact he might rather stay living in Leicester with his family there's nothing wrong with that what I do know though is leicester won't finish above arsenal or be in the CL league so he best make most of it while he can

He would have gone to Man city because they would have offered him £150k per week and paid Leicester £30M.

You keep telling yourself that....

He was quite prepared to move from Leicester when the release clause was initially triggered and a medical was scheduled. Infact even before that his agent had been hawking him around to the top clubs as soon as the season was over. Therefore he was evidently prepared to move to a 'bigger club'

Most of his family live in Sheffield anyway so that's not actually an issue and most wags wouldn't exactly be annoyed at the prospect of living in London

It's nothing to do with where he lives, it's everything to do with Arsenals status and pulling power. He would have moved to city no doubt about it.....

Oh dear......

He has a release clause of £20m so they wouldn't have paid is £30m would they??

Let's be clear, he would have gone to man city because he would be playing under guardiola and have a very good chance of winning either the prem again or the CL.

While he won't win either of those things by staying at Leicester, what can Arsenal therefore offer him that's better than what he will have next year? Aside from some great history and tradition....not much else

Well more money, but in terms of guaranteed tangible success I agree, there really isn't going to be much between Arsenal and Leicester, short term.

Blackstar you have been trying your level best in trying to have digs at Arsenal ever since we were linked to Vardy just to try an make yourself feel better about the situation.

Yeah Vardy will probably stay and to be fair the majority of the Arsenal fans didn't want him in the first place.

However, come the end of the window, you will lose Kante and Mahrez for sure

We always knew we would lose our best players. That's football. All I'm saying is that's it's a massive embarrassment that you can't even prise away a striker from Leicester

The bid annoyed me in the sense that it clearly shows that Wenger doesn't know what he's doing. Honestly if it was man city I wouldn't have had an issue - but the fact that you boys seem to be trying to buy our three best players because you can't be bothered to scout properly is annoying. Particularly when signing Vardy makes no sense to you or him

Yeah the 30m comment was ridiculous but the wage comment was spot on.

City would offer him way more than the 120K Arsenal are. They paid Nasri 180K back in 2011, they pay Sterling 180K now.

If Arsenal offered 140K like they pay Walcott, Vardy wouldn't be deliberating this at all.

Arsenal obviously would also offer:

A much better platform for his profile (100s of millions of fans around the world)
London
Chance to play with better players
Nicer stadium
Nicer facilities

Liverpool, Chelsea, and Man United have done this for years; stripping a successful, small teams of several of their best players isn't lazy scouting--everyone knows those players are top (for the season) performers. Get used to it--if Leicester fall into mid-table, they won't be offered large bids for players.

You're missing the point. I'd understand Arsenal going in for Mahrez and would reluctantly accept it. He's perfect for you - but Vardy? It's a completely stupid decision by Wenger that has unnecessarily unsettled both the player, Leicester and potentially even England and for what?

He doesn't fit into your style of play and I was annoyed because it just made no sense to me. Leicester were always going to counter offer and the new deal and recent success means we can almost match what Arsenal can

Im not sure another £20k a week would swing it for him. Leicester are offering £100k and that seems to be enough to make him stay

He would join city in a flash because they have much more chance of being successful next season than Arsenal do. This isn't the Arsenal of 2004 and I'm sure most Arsenal fans would agree

I'm not sure there was ever any serious intention of Vardy coming to Arsenal.

It all sounds rather like a ploy from his agent to get him a pay rise

I thought that until sources within Arsenal said his medical had been scheduled. Ray parlour apparently said they were rushing the marketing and pr people down to announce it on the Sunday.....

I guess we will never know but I do think his head was turned and he was heading for Arsenal at one stage

Who knows he might still end up going, it's not over but would be a massive shock if he stayed. I can't think of many similar examples

Rushing marketing and pr people down on Sunday.

I have to say, for Vardy, this fanfare and Wengers token release cause bid is all an endorsement of Wengers mentality in the transfer market. This one was a quick fix and a bit of a gamble for sure, glad it never happened but where does Wenger go now, that will be interesting?
