Please please tell me you are joking. Evans better than Williams?!?! In what world? And at 12 million for a player at 31 who could play at the top level for another 4 years, that is a huge bargain. Never rated Evans and we already have enough sickness at the club.

I think you'll be surprised by how good Evans is. Especially alongside a good CB like Koscielny. People overlook him because he couldn't displace Rio or Vidic in their prime, which is ridiculous. However, when we broke the record for most consecutive clean sheets it was with Evans and Vidic at the back. He's very tidy on the ball, and a good defender. I'd honestly rather have him than Mertesacker if I had to choose.

Got to be honest and out of the 2 i would chose evans. 12 Mil for Williams who has what 1-2 year at the most left at the top or the same price for Evans who has 4+ years and has excellent experience playing for big clubs.

Wenger must be thinking Ashley Williams is worth £4.5m and won't bid anything more than max £6m. That's how stingy AW operates. Pathetic.

To be honest Williams or Evans would be better than spending double on Mustafi at this stage. We need an experienced PL defender to walk in and do a job now!

I really don't want us to sign Jonny Evans but lets compare him to our current crop of clown CBs.

Kosielney vs Evans = Kos
Mertersacker vs Evans = Evans.
Gabriel vs Evans = Evans
Chambers vs Evans = Evans

As bad as we may think he is he's still better than 2 of our main CBs.

Look at it this way, we have signed players like Stepanov and the great Mikaël Silvestre, so Evans ain't that bad, you gotta love our ambitions lol

I know Evans may not be everyone’s cup of tea but (assuming links are genuine) he could be a decent signing. Ask any West Brom fan what they think of him (especially last season).

For NI he was instrumental during the qualifying campaign. At the Euros he was outstanding, no more so against Germany when he was one of the best players (if not the best) on the pitch.

So while he may not be the marque CB we all want, he has PL and CL experience and is a disciplined defender.

Mert is not underated, hes just an average defender. No pace, no leadership skills and has no determination when the chips are down. For someone so tall hes very bad in the air and also shows no strenth at all.
