Difficult to argue, but you know they're never going to make 4 changes at once. Ballance will survive, I suspect. Finn always manages to stick around the setup despite being fairly crap.

Think Hales and Vince are done, though. Hopefully get Bell-Drummond and Borthwick in, although I suspect Lees will be ahead of them given the Yorkshire bias. For me:

1. Cook
2. Bell-Drummond
3..Borthwick
4. Root
5. Bairstow
6. Stokes
7. Moeen
8. Woakes
9. Rashid
10. Broad
11. Anderson

I'd be ok with Duckett instead of DBD. For some reason I just get a feeling about DBD that I don't with Duckett, bit I guess Duckett could be like Warner for the Aussies - bring a bit of aggression and punch to the top order.

I'd rather see James Hildreth than Bell. I think Moeen, Bairstow and Stokes are more than good enough for the 5-7 spots though, and that gives us room for Rashid too.

I'd be tempted to get Buttler back in. When stokes is fit, Finn goes. Ballance, Vince and hales should be dropped forever.

Tome to bite the bullet at get KP back and maybe even Bell. England should seriously consider playing Ali as just a batter so they can get a specialist spinner in.

Cook, New Opener, Root, KP, Ali, Stokes, Bairstow, Woakes Rashid, Broad, Anderson.

Plenty of bowling option and batters too.

Kp is not coming back for fk sake.he dont even play first class cricket.. he aint done it for 2/3 years. . I wouldn't go back to bell either..

paddy no Woakes?
for home conditions I would have buttler in as keeper. something like this

Cook
New opener
Root
new number 4
Bairstow
Moeen
Stokes
Buttler
Woakes
Broad
Anderson..

We will need all the batting possible against South Africa. plenty of power in the lower order there..
(we are playing SA at home next year?)
I think Stokes is one place to high and moeen seems to showing more as a batsman.

England came across a good Pakistani bowling attack - these guys will come good and need to be given time... Bangladesh and India are completely different to playing pak in English conditions.. England would be crazy to make too many changes - you don't bring in young fresh faces and introduce them to international cricket in the subcontinent when experienced pros have consistently struggled in spinning pitches.

Keep it as it is I say...

I expect Hales to be dropped, like every other player given a chance at being England`s test opener, an average of just 27 in 11 tests with no century is not good enough.

What's the obsession with picking Buttler he hasn't played a first class game since UAE tour

Maybe dropping Vince, Hales and Ballance at one go is bit too much. But, if you bring back Stokes and Buttler, then you've only really got one new face.

Cook
Hameed
Root
Borthwick
Stokes
Bairstow
Ali
Buttler
Woakes
Broad
Anderson

Don't agree with you on Finn, he's just been unlucky.

Test wise agree with you on Hales and Ballance and I too would docua on someone younger.

The problem now is the next four is India away. All should come into the top 6 for Ballance for me.

Focusing on the bigger picture the way I look at is we have 3 or 4 quality young lads in the CC. Why not give them a go and stick with them. Get them in the mix now building up to the next Ashes.

My 11 Not for India for other series not requiring the second spinner:

Cook
Bell-Drummond
Root
Vince (Last chance)
Clarke
Stokes
Bairstow wk
Woakes
Rashid
Broad
Anderson

Squad: Hameed, Buttler wk, Wood, Finn, Ball, All.

Why would anyone have Vince ahead of Ballance. Vince has a top score of 42 in 7 tests. and whilst Ballance has been poor against New Zealand, Australia and Pakistan he still has two half centuries in his last 8 tests which both came at vital times ( 61 against Australia in the first test when we were 3 for 43 and 70 against Pakistan in the third test when we were 75/3 and 158/5). Ballance has a proven test record before he lost form and still averages 43 in tests.

I'm not saying Ballance should stay in the side but if one of them deserves another chance it should be Ballance.

Why? I am a Yorkie and was amaze after Ballance got a recall. He'd been out second least effective batsman never mind England's. Balance over achieved at 3 for England and is ineffective against pace which is a concern with the Ashes in the near future.

I am not saying Vince is the answer but seems to be getting out to daft shots. Not necessarily a technical flaw. That is a concern but may be something that can be overcome if he relaxes a bit. I would give him the India tour. You can't bring in too many new lads at the same time so you need to stick with one of Vince Ballance and Hales. For me, Vince may be the one who makes it.

It's also worth using Bairstow as an example here. Many many were hammering him. He has turned it around and is a superb batsman. Maybe Vince needs to go back and come back stronger or maybe just needs another run.

Balance has been lucky to be called up and admits it himself. Check his Yorkshire form this season.

Has the 171 changed anyones mind about hales or is he just a one day player with too many technical issues who gets in the test team because there is no stand out candidate to replace him?
