Blind is a CB

I agree. Blind has been sensational so far, as has Bailly.

It's not that crazy an idea to think of Blind as the deep cm. What happens to our best defender last year?

posted on 28/8/16

It's been great so far and Blind has again shown what a super footballer he is. But Robb does make a point. He would be just as good in a holding midfield role

I'm not fecking Robert

He hasn't got the strength or pace to be a good holding midfielder. He can just about succeed at CB because he's played further back so a lack of pace isn't too much of an issue if he has pace next to him.

Thought he was excellent yesterday... though I think he'd be equally excellent in the holding CM role.

You could say the same about Xabi Alonso or Andrea Pirlo. You don't need to physically dominate if you can find the space

He hasn't got anywhere near their passing range though.

Jose doesn't see him as a midfield option and said as much the other day. He's doing well in defence and that's where he should stay. There at CB or at left back in an emergency.

You may be right, in terms of what Jose thinks. But Blind could be and was a Dutch league player of the year as a DM in the past. Doesn't sound impressive, until you realise that it was one DM and strikers every time in a 5 year period

posted on 28/8/16

I'm almost certain the OP was among those shouting Blind was not a CB all of last season...

posted on 28/8/16

The dutch league has about as much pace as a lawn bowls regional championship to be fair.

Carrick doesn't have pace or strength. Of course Blind can be a deep midfielder.

I agree with Robb, for the last 10 years we've played with that beast of a holding midfield player Carrick ( who Robb loves by the way).

Carricks strength and lightening pace have been an essential part of his game during that time

posted on 28/8/16

But Carrick has a passing range and ability to dictate the tempo that Blind has never shown to such an amount.

That is why he doesn't play as a DM for club or country.

I don't mind you disagreeing with me but Jose certainly isn't ever gonna play him there.

Carrick is a very good passer but I feel Blind has shown a similar level of passing and he's also a great reader of the game. Carrick didn't start strong in that role and grew into it. Who's to say Blind can't be out next Carrick.

Your basing his inability to play there on half a season in a new league under LVG, yet you afforded Fellaini much more time.

You talk about his passing ability like he is Robbie savage.

His passing ability is very good, actually pay attention to our next game and you'll see he's always looking for the pass rather than the long ball, and 9 times out of 10 the pass reaches his team mate.

His ability to read the game is up there with the best in the league, and playing cb will only have improved the defensive side of his game.

There is no reason whatsoever to suggest he can't play there and succeed.

Apart from the fact that after half a season of playing there neither manager has played him there since.

Jose said who will play in CM this season and Blind isnt one of them. The debate is fairly pointless anyway because as he won't play there he will never get the chance to prove one of us right or wrong.

No point in debating things that won't happen?

1. That's what debate is about.
2. We don't know what circumstance will bring

Maybe, but blind playing cb under LVG was more out of necessity because of injuries.

You didn't want him at cb either and don't think he's good enough there, yet mourinho clearly does, and the way both him and bailey are playing, smalling is going to have trouble getting his place back.

Either way, interesting times ahead.

It would have to be an injury crisis of biblical proportions to see Blind in CM.

Jose said the other day which 5 players will be fighting for 2 spots. Plus Bastian may get another chance if he kicks up a stink and refuses to leave.

Robb acting like he's Jose's number two

How do you know what Jose will do? He might change his mind, or see something in training he didn't see before.

If there's no point in debating things that 'wont' happen then why do you always go on about Rooney being dropped?

When have I ever said Rooney will be dropped? I accept it as a certainty that he'll play more than most.

I don't think Daley Blind reads our posts, so he didn't seem to notice all the reasons why he certainly couldn't become a good CB. And let me say with 100% certainty he wouldn't worry about all of the reasons why he cant be a holding mid either. He was asked to do a job he wasn't used to and did it to the best of his ability. And now he's become rather good at it. If he's called upon to play the DM, I reckon he'd perform in the same manner, without our permission and blessing. Some guys just don't listen to their critics. Appalling!

1. Nice work ignoring the rest of my comment. Classic robb

2. You've done many a 'starting 11 I'd like to see' article with Rooney not in it. I agree he shouldn't be starting but other people are entitled to debate the possibility of Blind in midfield, even if it was a certainty not to happen (which it isn't).
