No because our current best players now expect/want to play in the ECL. So 4th is a minimum requirement again in my eyes. Would love us to win a trophy though!

no way.

FA Cup is way down list of priorities these days, whether people like it or not.

priority this season as with every season is the league, the bread and butter.

and we really should be qualifying from that CL group !

I hear ya, I just hate that phrase, If we don't qualify for the CL then the responsibility lies with the players and they should take responsibility for it. Essentially those "best players" failed ! That's what always bugged me about Modric, Bale... Blame the other 10 guys for not getting us 4th. Hopefully we have a better team culture now

completely agree.

modric and bale acted like absolute caaaants when they were trying to leave. bale less so

modric said he wanted to go and play cl football, when he was an integral (probably the key ) player in a team that went on a relegation standard run from about February to april and blew a huge lead to arsenal, or he would have been in the CL.

thecunt.

hate it when players say wanna play cl..... well if you played better at spurs you would be in the cl !!!

its not like its a cl standard player playing at Southampton, where even if hes amazing, the other players are not good enough to win enough games.

that spurs side was oozing class

king, modric, bale, vdv, a motivated and scoring adebayor

players like niko k off the bench, an in form lennon.

etc

btw I am talking about when modric wanted to go to Chelsea.

I have no qualms with him wanting to go to an actual superpower (real Madrid) rather than a pretend superpower.

I hope so, That group worries me, I know it was better than the alternative of the Madrid/Dortmund group but we are gonna have to been playing well. The Wembley factor is a big unknown. I wouldn't be shocked if we missed out. BL are decent & Monaco just beat PSG in Paris. We just scraped past Palace & were lucky to draw with Liverpool. Away at a desperate Stoke would be my last choice before a CL game at Wembley

My expectations have been raised with our new squad. I would have taken 5th and Cup before signing Janssen, Pau, Nkoudou and Sissoko plus seeing talents of Marcus Edwards, Shayon Harrison, Onomah and CCV coming through.

But now..I think apart from Man Utd's squad. Ours has just as much depth as anyone else's.

IF Chelsea have injuries to anyone in their back line and their keeper I think they would struggle to replace the quality.

City have a top squad but if Aguero gets injured they seem an entirely different beast. Their backline isn't better than ours also.

Arsenal..1 point in it last year and arguably we have bought better.

Liverpool...they seem frail at the back also. I think on their day they can beat anyone but in terms of league consistency I'm not so sure..I could be wrong but Burnley highlighted some weak points.

So I see no reason why we should not challenge. It's all down to Poch now. He has the tools and squad to really go for it this year.

Son Nkoudou Janssen Kane Eriksen Alli Lamela Sissoko Dembele Wanyama Dier....all have assists or goals in them.

we have one of the best back lines..best defence last year.

3 Top very decent keepers.

Poch really can't complain..based on our wage structure this is as good a squad as we can hope for.

Never

The FA Cup sadly isn't what it used to be.

Agree with you both. Chronic you yourself though mate keep telling older posters to get with the times, not to mention any names as annoying and feckin soul destroying as it is perhaps us modern fans need to just accept that unfortunately that is just the way things are now. And this pretentious approach probably won't be changing anytime soon. Sentiment is a rarity in the game now.

I would.

Would love to see us win a trophy again, been far too long.

Hell no.

Crashing out of the CL group stage wouldn't be good, not using that advantage to qualify for the CL would just compound it.
