People find it so easy to make sweeping statements , IN MY OPINION only MY opinion there have been so many better club sides that Peps Barca

I'm not saying he's a poor manager just that the media hav gone way over the top with him....I think he MAY have made a mistake with his keeper , oly time will tell
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Name some better club sides than Peps Barcelona this should be a laugh even Fergie said they are the best side he's ever come up against
----------------------------------------------------------------------

AC Milan of the late 80s and early 90s would probably get a shout, although we did not have the coverage we do now.

Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard, Baresi, Maldini et al

Mentioned them earlier best side i've seen since then

It was good, but not Pep's Barca level. Milan is perhaps a bit old for me to judge but they were the only ones thrown out there as being potentially better.

Whether or not the were the best, second or fifth best will always be a matter of preference and opinion, but I'd say there's a widespread consensus that he turned them into ONE OF the best club sides ever.

As for it being easy, managers will come and go at clubs like Madrid, Barça or any other who've been the dominant financial forces in their respective eras, but precious few ever make the mark Guardiola did at Barça.

And it's not just the trophies, but achieving it with the exhilarating brand of football they played in those early years. The detractors who've since labelled it 'boring tiki-taka' either really weren't watching in those opening years or have bundled the more conservative possession football played later together with the verve and speed of passing of the opening years. (For pure entertainment value, his first season there is still far and away my favourite even if the style hadn't been as well polished as in 2011).

What I do find a bit ironic is that the same man might be resonsible for depriving us of another club side that might have earned itself a similar place in the history books had he not joined. Admittedly I didn't watch Bayern in their treble year nearly as much as I saw Barça 09-11, but what I did see was absolutely fantastic stuff too. Unfortunately, whatever mark they might have made had Heynckes not stepped/been pushed aside is something we'll never know.

Hate to say this as a Spurs fan but United's Euro Cup side with Best , Law and Charton were stunning

Were they as good , just a matter of opinion

Forgot to add...even as a Madrid fan, I harbour no bitterness towards the Barça of those years - more a debt of gratitude as a footy fan to having been treated time after time to such a marvellous spectacle.

Most on here can't comment on the Milan side.

Then you have di Stefano's Real Madrid,

Barca were the best of their generation, which is the only barometer which can be fairly used,

With the above caveat of what Heynckes' might have achieved had it not been cut short, Sacchi's Milan would be the only club that imo could hold a candle to Guardiola's Barça.

Watched them in the flesh against a formidable Madrid team and they were as close to impenetrable as I've ever seen. For overall balance, I'd certainly put them ahead of 09-11 Barça, but being the attacking football sucker that I am, the latter just brought me that much more enjoyment.

Another thing is that there's a tendency to wax more lyrical about sides from bygone days. Truth of the matter is Milan would also struggle at times, and very specifically were a controversial replay away vs one of the Yugoslav sides (Red Star or Partizan, I always muddle them) from never even becoming the force that would soon come into being.

I feel the Tottenham side of the late 90s and early 2000s deserve a mention

you telling me that pique and puyol wouldn't have been fretting at the prospect of having gary Doherty and matty etherington bearing down on them?

messi iniesta xavi wouldn't have had a sniff against paolo tremezzani and ben thatcher after.

I despair for people who love football yet do not rate what pep did at Barcelona. A team has never been so well drilled in an attacking sense as that one.

I saw Chelsea beat us 6-1 at home in 1997, with Jody Morris and some other nomark playing for them.

Can you imagine what Pep's mob would have done? Jeez. I reckon 20-0

Think this will be his greatest challenge so far. The EPL demands top performances every week. He has a big squad packed with quality but our league plus the demands of the CL and the lack of a winter break really takes its toll. The top teams in Spain and Germany can cruise through parts of their season.

My expectation was it would take a season for him to acclimatise to the EPL, mainly the pressure and the games coming thick and fast, but would certainly dominate from then on. Jose knows better how to slug out an EPL season.

They did look a bit formidable vs Utd but Jose made it easy for them with his negative tactics.

I see their weaknesses as their keeper (a bit flappy) their LB (much better going forward than defending) and not that impressed with their current 2 CBs, mistakes in them. I think the likes of Liverpool and Spurs will stand a better chance of a result as these are teams that press and attack, not sit back and counter.

I think Conte learned that lesson this weekend.

even the "weaker" sides will punish you if you are not quite at it.

Can't help but feel though that any success he brings to City these season will be a little overshadowed by the huge net spend. I think he knew he had an aging squad though and needed to bring in some of the top young talent hence the overinflated fees for Stones and Sane and the like.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
and how many newbies started yesterday? ?This is the same team as last year with Stones replacing the injured Kompany and Nolito instead of Navas.

Barça cruised to defeat at home against a newly promoted side at the weekend.

Your point isn't devoid of all truth Devonshire, but it's massively overstated.

People can have wrong opinions. In my experience people who use 'their opinion' as reasoning usually have little in the way of logic behind their stance.
