He started off great and looks like he really wanted to do well here and look like he was enjoying his football. Something must have happened and not just the burglary. I think the manager had a lot to do with it.
On ability he was worth the money paid. Shame he didn't want to play in England.
For what it's worth, Real had a player who was desperate to stay, prove his worth and put in the effort, who after Ronaldo and Bale was their next best player.
They were idiots to sell and we were bigger idiots to buy.
Great player. Amazing how many people wrote him off after one disappointing season.
A lot of fans bent over backwards to defend some players under LVG. I.e. LVG ruined them, put shackles on them, played them out of position etc. but no such excuses were applied to ADM despite the fact he was a proven player before he joined us.
I think we all know he's a great player but it just didn't work at United.
It was interesting that Hargreaves last night thought the reason ADM failed was because we didn't play him in any position regularly and I'm sure that contributed but more than anything I think he just never wanted to be at United.

I dont think anyone wrote him off as a player at all, what they did question though was his dedication to the club he was being paid a large amount of money to play for
I think Owen Hargreaves got it right: he was being played in stupid positions. He's a winger... cutting in from right to left is what he does... not a #10, not a CM, not a "get to the byline and smash it across goal" LW...
Yeah I think what Hargreaves said is partially true but I still think he was never fully settled and the robbery didn't help either.
He always said he wanted to go to PSG and I think he's happy he's there now.
For sure, those were contributing factors... I don't think LVG was the right manager for him either
He's all those things, though, Robben. He's proven that in his career he's versatile enough to play anywhere across the midfield. The issue is he's always been inconsistent and Van Gaal didn't give him time to settle into any one position, as well as not suiting our laboured possession based football.
Van Gaal has some responsibility for what happened with Di Maria, but then so does the player. After his form dropped off he just didn't look like he cared and by that point it was obvious he no longer wanted to be at United.
It's a shame because he's a ridiculously talented footballer.
Talking of Hargreaves... anyone get really unnerved by his weird accent?
Like Canadian, meets English, meets New York, with a sprinkling of French and German. Bizarre.

OK, but playing those positions for RM or Argentina against Bolivia, are different to playing them in the PL for LVG straight up.
I'm also still not fully convinced he was a player LVG wanted. He kept moaning about how he wasn't following his philosophy and was losing the ball too much but that's di Maria, wildly inconsistent but allowed to play his game is a match winner.
And because of that LVG had no issue dropping him. Like Darren says, it is a shame as he's a brilliant player.
Well yeah it's different because the styles are more direct and he was given the benefit of being able to settle with consistent game time in those positions. My point is that he's more than just a right winger cutting in, that's what makes him such a quality player.
OK so we agree... he should have been allowed to settle by playing in one position and then utilised, rather than shunted round in the hope that one day it would just click
A bit like Mhki, he joined us having just had arguably his best season in an unfamiliar role. Maybe that confused LVG a little, but using him as a false #9 was a complete waste.
He was a LW originally for Benfica too.
Well yeah but that's not what you said initially.
Ama I the only one who thinks it a bit funny that Hargreaves of all people - not one of our better buys - should be criticising ADM?
Besides, who wouldn't prefer Paris over Manchester?

He didn't criticise... he excused him, saying that he wasn't used correctly and what a wonderful player he is (as he was proving during the game)
Hardly Hargreaves' fault, he said he couldn't even drive a car for 2 days after a match because the tendons in his knees were so f-cked.
Yeah dunno what Beeb is going on about.
Imagine if he was with us now and firing.

Yeah it's annoying he's not here now. He's better than all of our wingers and suits a Mourinho team far more than a Van Gaal one.
Maybe even this although it's a little too gung ho.
