"England have been the most overrated national side of any sport "
Really? ANY sport?

How are we overrated? Nobody should rate us
England cricket team never won a world cup but were beaten finalist 3 times.
Who rates England? Our fans know we're $hit and even daft pundits know it. If anything it's other countries who overrate us.
Some great football songs though
I foolishly rated us for the last Euros.
We always produce good promising players that gives at least some hope we'll do well. And then other countries like Iceland obviously must rate us.
England are a bit mad really, flawless in qualifying but as soon as they come under any real pressure in a tournament the fold.
Like v Iceland when it wen 2-1 you could just see them freeze, Gerrard said the players were thinking about the headlines they would see the next morning if they lost and it forced them to panic and try force it.
The media do England zero favours, just look at how the Telegraph went after Big Sam
Always thought the Dutch were more overrated to be honest, with some of the players they have had they have underachieved big time
During the Euros there was a real lack of expectation (quite rightly) amongst the general populus. We got our fingers burnt by the not so Golden generation and we are alot more realistic these days. My advice to anybody who thinks English fans are arrogant and expect the team to do well is don't read the papers or listen to the tv/radio ask the good people of England and you might get a pleasant surprise.

good point
You could say Netherlands have underachieved. Or seeing as they're quite a small country with a low population you could say they've overachieved. I'd be tempted to sit in the latter camp.
At least their talent is reflected in how far they get in tournaments most of the time.
We're shiet, and we know we are

I'd usually agree. For the last Euros I found it difficult not to get a little bit excited at our prospects having the strikers we had, and the pretty decent record in friendlies and qualifying.

Who even rates the english national team? I haven't heard anyone say anything good since 2010.
People find it hard to avoid going off one end or other of the scale, from those who constantly hype them up and put them in amongst the favourites for any tournament, to those who see them as a useless bunch of no-hopers.
You're neither, tbh, you're a side that's tough to beat but who never seem to find that extra few % it takes to go all the way.
Can't remember the last time you got steamrolled and lost 3 or 4-0 at a major tournament. Have you ever?
Anybody with any hopes of English glory is seriously deluded. As a nation, we've developed a sense of schadenfreude - we expect the team to flop dismally, and they succeed admirably in meeting these gloomy expectations.
I don't know why anybody in their right mind would want to play for England, except of course the prestige of getting caps.
And I desperately hope Wenger isn't bonkers enough to take the job. It would be the kiss of death.

I was excited because of the 5 Spurs boys in the squad but I thought in general the country was pretty apathetic. There were very few tatty English flags flying from homes or cars and the pubs that I frequented were half full whereas 10 years ago you would of struggled to get through the door.

Very true. The Hodgson factor would have killed much of the optimism I imagine
We've got to the SF stage of 4 tournaments in history. Two of those were while playing at home, when any half decent team can use that advantage to overachieve.

Absolute nonsense. South Korea weren't decent
I disagree. How can England be overrated when nobody rates England anymore? Maybe it's just my own opinion but I haven't rated England for about 10 years.
The media in England big them up before every tournament.
All we get is the spirit of '66 palavah and how we can do it again. It is one of the reasons other countries are happy to see them fail.
As an Irishman it wouldn't bother me seeing the players win a world cup or Euros but my God could you imagine the insufferable garbage that the media would spew.
They never look at the fact that the team are not that good compared to the big guns.
