Our players are also immature. Treated like prospects into their mid twenties.
I think there are problems in international football that go way beyond England. There are too many games like last nights. Smaller countries should prequalify and larger nations should play fewer games but against better opposition. Its all about money now and the football has become as boring as shiiiit.
You don't need a team full of World Class players at International level. First and foremost you need a team. What you don't do and what England simply cannot seem to understand or break out of is shoehorning people into the team because they are 'Stars'
Create a tactical formation that plays to the strengths of the players that you have and send them out with a plan for each game. Against Malta England looked like they'd not actually done any homework on this side and simply expected to win. The preparation for the game looked poor or there was preparation really poorly executed
Against Malta you have Rooney playing a deep lying midfield role? WTF....why?
Rooney hasn't been deserving of an England starting place for a few years now but is still Captain? It just doesn't make sense. He can't get a game for his club side but England play him way out of position...why? It's just not logical. His time has clearly passed. He was a good player a few years back but crikey now. Ridiculous. Stop this nonsense...
We played Walcott, why if we didn't have a game plan to utilise his pace? What did we think he would do? Did we not go over tactics to get him onto the ball or attacking the full back? Why play him if he's not going to get the ball in the right areas to utilise his one key asset? What was the point?
I forgot Lingard was playing at times. He seemed very reluctant to be pushing on into the box
We were playing Malta yet often crosses were coming in and there was one player in the box. None of these attacking midfield / forward players were bursting a gut to get onto things
Slow, pedestrian and clueless is how England looked generally with the odd flash
For crying out loud, drop Rooney. You can't keep pandering to players that used to be good. Loyalty gets you nowhere in football. He's not going to be a main player at the next World Cup so honestly what is the point in playing him now? If we need Rooney to beat Malta then England should simply give up International Football for good!
And in terms of the next manager....Wenger??? Please, what is this nonsense. One of the fundamental criticisms that you can give him is a lack of tactical nouse. He's not been able to do more with less, always excuses. Do people not see that as giving England more of the same? It would be another insane appointment purely because of the name, not what he could actually do with the England team. England don't have these pretty ball playing 'Barca lite' technicians. He's not been able to get the best out of players like Walcott, Chamberlin, Chambers etc. What on earth makes people think he's the answer?
Englands problems far surpass whoever is in charge of the national team.
Walcott was at his anonymous best last night.
Right ho, do you think that Portugal or Germany's players play for peanuts and bags of walkers?
--
No but they don't play in the ruined league of the premier, with eletisf crap that gets filled into these selfish w@nkrs heads. The Germans and Portuguese actually want to put in a shift and play for the country, our boys couldn't care less, they have all the money and adolation they need from the money corrupted premier league. In short they are spoilt.

It's all about grass routes.... some people are using Rooney as an escape goat... but if he had gone on better grass routes as a kid, he'd be going in the right direction now.

Is it me or do they general public think they know more than the coaches and managers who earn a living from football?
Hilarious. If the experts believe that Rooney warrants a place (and most of them do), who are we to argue.
They understand the game better than we do, otherwise anyone of you would be England manager heavens forbid

Portugals best ever player played here since the age of 18 so that's also nonsense.
Seriously you're not making any sense your thought on this defies all logic.

This is an issue.
Walcott had potential for the first ten years of his career.
Phil Jones has proven to be useless and some people still think he has the tools to be a good player.
There's no realism when evaluating our players
You can't compare Ronaldo to our players. The only one that truely had the same level of appetite was arguably be khan, and he wasn't close. For every Ronaldo there's a Sterling or a Zaha.
I'm not going to waste my time trying to explain to a monkey.

You're not going to waste time because you're an idiot and your ludicrous reasoning is chit you muppet
Stretty you are well known for being about as intelligent as a brick. Not worth explaining anything to you. Would be like trying to teach a worm the theory of relativity.
You have just come out with the stupidest reasoning possibly ever seen on this site you fecking moron.
ALL OF PORTUGALS players have earned big money since a young age.
It makes no difference.
Whatsoever.
Have a seat you imbecile.
That's before mentioning Portugal we're fecking dreadful for the most part of the euros.

I think this article is a perfect example of how we focus on the England team individually rather than as a collective. Surely our previous teams of the past, or even the Belgium now are examples of how having talent and World-Class players still fails to equate to being successful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Most successful international sides have a strong set of top players.
Portugal and Greece aside who come along once in a while it's by and large the best teams that win the comps.

We play badly because our style isn't suited for int football
Comment deleted by Site Moderator
It's partly that we don't have one or two dominant domestic teams that are providing the bulk of the players and the playing style (Spain and Germany have been the two dominant teams and their style of play has been influenced by Barca and Bayern. The former, they've started to drop because they no longer have the three of Barcas midfield, they are missing Xavi).
As a consequence, we don't have a defined way of playing that suits all of the players and they know well.
Coupled with that, the fanbase have unrealistic expectations and overrate our place in the pecking order.
It is because:
1. We have a small pool of players to pick from who are regularly getting game time at top clubs
2. Our players are over-hyped and we are living in a media-saturation culture in which there is constant pressure and scrutiny
3. English teenagers are generally immature and football infantalises players further
4. This immaturity is enhanced through the English fascination with social media (look at Lewis Hamilton outside of football for another sporting example)
5. Teams park the bus when they play us
6. Grass roots football places too much emphasis on physique and athleticism
7. We lack top managers: in hindsight, Sven wasn't too bad. However, we have not had a decent match between team and manager since Sven, and arguably before.
To be honest I dont think England fans expectations,me included, are that high.
I just want to see some entertaining attacking football and ,we have at the very least, got players who can deliver in that regard.
