I worked in the money markets from the age of 18 until I was 31. I quit because I just could no longer stomach the moral bankruptcy of it all.

That was 1999, it's only gotten worse. For many a year now I only do the minimal business through a high street bank, but with an ethical bank. I'm not going to change the world, but I refuse to put any more cash than is strictly necessary into the pockets of the leeches that run the banking racket.

If you have your reservations about how banks go about their business, give it a try. Feyenoord, it's a Dutch bank, btw.

Stretty, thanks for the heads up regarding the film, will try to catch it.

Funnily enough, in The Big Short, Brad Pitt plays a character who quit the industry "out of disgust" still got filthy rich from the crash, but still.

I agree with one of the points made at the end of the film, and I think it applies to some career politicians too, when they mess up, we assume it's because they're incompetent when actually, they know what they're doing but they just don't give a sh*t.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They literally don't care and and it can't get much worse than what happened in 2008 so you know if people didn't go to jail for that they never will. These firms make rich people a lot richer which is why they don't suffer consequences

Maddest thing is that after the crash they repackaged these ridiculous mortgages they were selling and sold them again
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I helped find gaps in the banking trading protocols to allow them to trade these instruments between each other.

I find it very difficult to get liability insurance now due to my activities in 2008.

I recently sold out all my long positions after the deutsche bank scare.

Went and split 2/3 research cash in a long Norwegian Krone and short pound trackers. Then opted to for a non leveraged ftse short.

Only after I bought it, did the penny drop that it is a DBX instrument. Another trading name for Deutsche Bank. The investment is not capital protected. Lol

I've been meaning to watch it but not gotten around to it.

I did however watch the first half of Bridge of Spies with Tom Hanks - it's brilliant so far and I intend to finish it tonight.

Once got a call from a boiler room A1(or E1) Asset management . Tore a few strips off the guy on the phone, saying if he is so accomplished at investing why doesn't he just do that. Told him he can give me one tip and on the basis of that he can call me back. He explained about Apple and this new phone they were releasing, the iPhone. Shares were $33 dollars he told me they would go to 100. I told him that when they hit 100 to call me and then we can chat. He called back about 3 months later. It was awkward but I still told the guy to do one.

If this film gets you mad don't read about the Rothschilds your head will explode
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They've got money invested in every bank going.

That family also bankrolled both sides of the Second World War.

Not me. Haven't once voted for a mainstream party since the 90s.

In terms of parliamentary representation, my vote's been flushed down the toilet each time, but I'm not giving up.

I know this thread has wound down but just read that this week, Iceland sentenced another nine bankers to prison for their role in the 2008 financial crash.

In January this year HuffPo said that 29 bankers have been jailed in Iceland, so that's now 38, which is 37 more than every other country in Europe and the US combined, but still, good stuff Iceland.

It's a shame only one country has the balls and morals to punish the bankers for what they did and make no mistake about it are still doing.
