Quite a few of these games kicked off at 7pm last season! Maybe clubs want them out of the way as early as possible, as little crowds come anyway
7pm is crazy, I could never make that after work, I am only ever just about able to make 7.45 kick offs. I think the crowd may be a bit low and to be honest if it wasnt Bradford I wouldnt mind if we didnt try too hard as it is a pointless waste of players energy and potential injuries
I like it, means i can take my 7 year old who unfortunately supports Bradford City.
MBWB, exactly. Complete and utter nonsense is the JPT.......but being the hypocrite I am will end up going just because it's a tenner.

No I live in Manchester Tez and dont normally finish work till after 6. Its the joys of the M60 and M62 that means that early kick offs are just not possible mid week.
One thing thats always bugged me about midweek games is the food in the stadium. As I would rush straight from work I wouldnt get a chance to eat so your choice is a dodgy pie or hotdog or crisps....atleast crisps dont give you a dodgy stomach the following day.
Why can we actually sell something half decent. Given the crowds you could easily have say a Subway type place there which whilst not perfect would be a huge step up from "I cant believe its meat" pies!
I live in Manchester i am planning to leave manchester at 5:00 pm enough time to get to the Galpharm i will have packed sandwisches flask of tea, mars bar, 2 jumpers just in case it gets cold inside galpharm. It usually does laughing out loud. After the game i will walk up to Slubbers Arms for a pint or two then have go back to manchester should be home by 11:00 depending on Roadworks.
Does anyone like my schedule ?...
7 o clock to allow kids to come and get home early on a school night.
if they are younger kids the parents will have to come as well..
the jpt trophy ???
3 main priorities..
1. dont get any injuries..
2. dont get a sending off..
3. win the game.
the crowds will never cover the costs unless you reach the final and its probably a close run thing even then..
id like to beat bradford but as long as we dont incurr any injuries or suspensions i dont care too much..
Am ok with 7 cos I start work so early 7 am til 2 pm I don't mind starting so early in the morning but at least I can get to night games .
yes, think its JPT rules in tandem with special offer for kids.
Doesn't bother me but pre-floodlight days we played on an midweek afternoon which meant 20,000 sciving off work..in them old days.
Have you tried the new pies? Not half bad....much better than previous years.
I haven't Grim as they've previously been terrible, but I'll give a balti pie the once over on Saturday!
Didn't I read somewhere that they've got new caterers in now, a local firm...from Lindley ? Don't know if they supply the outlets or just do the posh nosh for the posh in the exec suites etc
Didnt know there were new pies, may have to try them myself. I was watching some sports show a while back and the club had got some decent locally made pies on the menu and they actually looked nice unlike the ones the we used to sell.
Does anyone ever try a burger from the dodgy stall by the golf range? I just imagining you will know what Johnny Cash was singing about the day after!!!
The pies are made by a firm called Lindleys but they are not made in Lindley,
Jones butchers of Marsh/Lindley make good pies, You would think Hoyley being a local businessman would offer contracts to local firms rather than nationwide ones ???
The current pies are ok but they aint a patch on what you can get from Jones or Eddie Grange of Slawit.
I have always thought that with all the different catering outlets in the stadium that you should have different caterers in each one giving punters a choice and put the onus on the retailers to make the prices more competitive, Better for us, The hungry punters and better for the local businesses who i believe would snatch the clubs hand off given the opportunity to supply their goods on a matchday.
As for the game, I will be going for a tenner but only because it is Bradford and before the game i will have a pint in Rickys Bar followed by a Steak canadian n onion butty from the catering stall outside the pub which sells decent fare at a reasonable price and has never yet given myself a dodgy gut the day after.
Bryce I would imagine the catering is tied up by KSDL with contracts for the stadium. I have just read they retendered it this summer and a new group is doing at so hopefully no more "rollover" dogs. I have no idea what went into them but it cant have been pretty.
The contract is £10.3M for five years so about £2M a year or about £40K per week. That doesnt seem that much if you get over 10,000 at a game and given the prices these places charge but I guess many dont use them.
That deal would mean no opportunity for anyone else to come in as it struck me as odd that you never have say a starbucks type place. I went to a corporate do at Derby County a while back and there is a starbucks built in to one of the stands and its really busy. Given how lousy some of the coffee is they could make a fortune in a football stadium as many people pay a fair bit for fancy coffees now.
Why not extend this, I knew a very nice brazilian girl who worked at the Emirates as a mobile beer dispenserer, with a back pack full of booze going round the concourses ...The whole non drinking in public thing has gone crazy, even in the fantastic media suite you can't take your drink near the windows just in case someone is suddenly influenced by the sight and turns into a rampaging alchoholic thug within seconds , crazy !
Great idea Jacko! When I go to watch cricket I have a pint sat down watching the game and there is no trouble. The way they limit it means people down loads of pints before and inbetween the game and get more drunk than they they would if took their time relaxed sat watching the game.
I have seen that "at seat" sales in America but not here, its a great idea and having attractive women selling it makes even more sense!
I'll see if I can find her number.!..she was your typical image of a brazilian beauty..sadly she was going out with a french lad at the time, but she was in the next flat to me in Fulham, and we did meet regulalry on the way to and from the shower room....... Am sure we can find some nice lasses round here who want to earn a few bob on a saturday afternoon?
You make a good point about the rush to down pints before and at half time (if you can ever get served). I once went to the Reebok and they served beer in the concourses all the way through the game, why are our Stadium officials so blooming stuffy ?
Just had a word on Bolton site and they can still buy drinks throughout the match, but obviously only to be consumed out of sight of the pitch. If you went to watch the Giants at Wembley a few years back you could carry your pints into the seating area and drink during the match. Not sure if they allow pints in the seats for giants at the galpharm ?
All down to local magistrates licencing apparently, so we're all obviously thought to be a set of rabble rousing drunken yobs still, a la 1960's/70's. Some stuck up teetotal spinster on the licencing committee no doubt (or bloke in fact...not to be sexist)
Its not local licencing. It forms part of the Football Licensing Authority.
the consumption of alcohol within view of the playing area including, during the restricted period (15 minutes before the start of the event to 15 minutes after the end of the event), rooms within the ground from which the event may be directly viewed.
Complete bonkers. Even extends to corporate boxes. The biggest danger of having beer in your seat. Is accidently soaking the person in front of you when you jump up suddenly.
you could do that with a scolding hot cup if coffee whuch would be far worse eh lol
Very true. I know that from experince. When a Gary Roberts ball came steaming over the bar. Hit the wall then came straight at me. Whilst carrying two coffees. Burnt my hand.
What about the daft rule at Old Trafford. Bottle tops to be removed from all pop bottles. The kids took the tops off in the queue, hid them in their pockets and instantly put them back on at the other side of the turnstiles.
I went to see the cricket at Old Trafford a while back and they were confiscating drinks at the gate. It was apparently "on safety grounds" which was funny as you can get the same drinks just inside the ground but at a ridiculously high price.
There was some serious drinking going on with people continuously bringing a 4 pint carrier back to drink. After many hours of drinking the worst that happened was the stewards trying to confiscate a giant "snake" of cups. The funniest thing is they would grab one and then another snake would appear and be moved around just out of reach!
There have been 6 hours of drinking by that point and the fans were all mingled in, I just think that most fans would be fine with a pint or two. Any that cause trouble would get drunk and cause trouble anyway.
You can drink ale while watching the Giants from your seat, Though they do remove and keep the bottle top before selling you the booze, Dangerous things them bottle tops you know !
I agree about Boozing fast before Town games, Them 3 swift pints of cider go straight to my head, I dont buy booze in the ground at Town matches as it is too dear to drink while only having a view of the stadiums internal walls.
